I'd read the menu on the website, received great reviews from friends and was excited to be invited to eat at Harry Hares. It was a nice, bistro-style restaurant that immediately made me feel comfortable and relaxed, the welcome was warm and the service was excellent throughout.
I loved the choice of traditional yet updated British dishes on the menu, it was cleverly put together with something to suit every taste. While I enjoyed the food, it was very comforting, I couldn't help being a little disappointed. It was good but not as great as I had expected.
The quality of the food items was superb, of special note is the Gloucester Old Spot pork which I woke up dreaming about the next morning. However, the quality of the cooking was not as special as I had hoped, the pork was a little dried out, very hard to do with Old Spot, the vegetables well-cooked but tasteless and the much-looked forward to jam sponge had all the right flavors but was, quite frankly, as tough as old boots.
It's a shame because I loved the menu, loved the restaurant, loved the service and definitely loved the price but, unless I was just unlucky on the day, the attention to cooking detail would benefit from coming up a notch. However, I would not hesitate to accept another invitation to eat there and give it a second try and would not discourage you from enjoying this well-put together restaurant. read more
