O'Connor Chiropractic does its job better through a more methodical approach combined with education. I had some stiff neck issues that had been bothering me for two years. I had gone to another chiropractor, who would adjust me, but the problem came back after a few days. On my first visit, Dr. Lawrence used a low-radiation x-ray machine to check out my neck bones, asked me questions about my medical history regarding my problems, and measured my range of motion by having me do some neck exercises. The initial assessment indicated that my neck had less than half the range of motion of a normal person, and I likely had whiplash many years ago, even though I couldn't remember anything that could have done that. In any case, Dr. Lawrence put me on an intensive 24-visit (2 month) plan of adjustments and stretching at the office plus lifestyle changes at home. I learned that I was bending my neck too much by looking down at my phone. I also had to adjust the way I look at a computer monitor. I had to do neck stretches regularly and use ice on the neck and shoulder muscles. After following the doctor's orders, on my re-exam two months later, my neck felts pretty good. My neck's range of motion was almost back to normal levels. After this, he felt is was fine for me to scale back on the visits, so long as I followed the lifestyle changes and do neck stretches regularly. Now, I go to the practice much less frequently, and see his brother, Dr. Jim.
