A coworker suggested I stay at another hotel about an hour away, based on his stays in the past. The lady who checked me in was nice and friendly. My room looked nice at first glance. The underside of the toilet seat and its base were not clean. Mildew in the shower and along the bathroom floor. It was late and the hotel was full so I wasn't offered options of another room. There was no hot water in the shower the next morning. I waited about 20 minutes and still no hot water. Waited some more but had to endure a really cold shower on a very cold day. I mentioned the lack of hot water to the front desk clerk who said there is only one hot water heater and it always runs out when the hotel is full. I suggested the hotel upgrade the current equipment or get an additional one. The clerk just shrugged her shoulders as if it would never happen. Since I was running late, I picked up the grab & go breakfast bag. Another big disappointment as the banana was brown and the bagel was past its expiration date. Another fail! Next time I will listen to my coworker and stay in another town. I suggest avoiding this hotel until they get their hot water situation fixed.

This hotel is located on one of the main streets that run through Hartwell. Is conveniently located near restaurants and across the street from Walmart. Which is great if you leave any items at home. There's also a Dollar General store that it shares a parking lot with. The customer service here is wonderful. Everyone is very warm and welcoming. In my pass five stays I have had only two small issues and both were resolved quickly. One being the toilet handle came off in my room some months ago , maintenance was not available at the time so they probably assisting me with moving my room because they understood how important it was to have a working toilet. Today on this visit the floor of the foyer area in my room was a little sticky. I called downstairs and let the front desk know . It wasn't even two minutes before someone was in my room cleaning the floor. All the staff your truly makes you feel welcome and as if you are family. I come here often for fishing and friends. They have started back with the serve yourself breakfast buffet. Last time I stayed it was grab and go due to the pandemic. It's summer time now and the pool is clean a cool. The hotel choices here in Hartwell are limited. This Hampton Inn is the number one Hotel in Hartwell. I'm assuming that's why this is also the pricecie one. Because of fishing and being extremely close to Lake Heartwell that's why these rooms are so expensive. I have stayed in nicer rooms in major cities by Hampton Inn for less. On average the basic room here is about $150-$200 a night. And again I personally feel this is because of it being located near Lake Hartwell and there's no really competition here. If another hotel chain was to come to town this location would really have to step it up on their amenities and style in the rooms. The customer service is already immaculate and on point. That's the reason why I pay the extra money and stay here instead of the quality inn down the street for half the price. Ultimately Do I recommend this location? YES I DO . But my message for corporate is you may want to consider lowering the price here or upgrading the rooms and amenities to make it fair for customers.

Upon arrival I saw that the reality was different from what I was expecting, since it was already late and we were tired I didn't say anything to the lady that checked us in. The next morning we came down and talked to Cody about our disappointments, he listened patiently and then searched for possible solutions, we got lucky that Philp canceled a reservation at their nearby Cabin, so Cody transferred us to this beautiful Cabin in the woods which was more than we could ever have wanted to have a magical and peaceful Valentine's Weekend. We also ordered the Valentine's Dinner from the restaurant "Waterfall Grille" and it was personally delivered by Cody, the food was excellent. I have to confess that after the initial displeasure I saw no possibility for me to give 5 stars to this place, but Cody went above and beyond to make this a complete turn around and we finished our trip to North Georgia on a very happy note... After departing we had "Cabin withdrawal" for the next 2 days!

I pulled chair out of desk to sit down when a Cockroach looking thing ran out from underneath the table. I immediately stepped on it and went down stairs to report it. I had to ASK to be moved rooms. It wasn't offered to me. I then moved rooms got settled in. When I pulled back sheets to crawl in I see long hair through out the bed. I then look at second bed I didn't see any hairs. I was to exhausted to go back down stairs. Slept bad obviously and sure didn't eat the breakfast.

I expected turkey but they only served small thin slices of turkey breast (with giblet gravy - no traditional gravy available) and some kind of baked ham (mostly in chunky pieces) in a cabbage broth (a dish of sweet dark looking sauce available). The appetizer/salad/soup options: big bowl of mostly frissee lettuce w/ grape tomatoes, shaved carrots with a gross thick sauce of balsamic vinaigrette. There were trays of: baked root veggies, sweet potato pone, mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. The rolls were industrial like (white rolls out of a bag) not the homemade fresh baked breads I've had here before. There were bowls of Smoked CHOPPED salmon (why would anyone chop up smoked salmon?) and trout with a tzatziki sauce (not a dip) was not what one would expect. The best part of the whole meal was the butternut squash bisque. The dessert option that I chose was a small wedge of flour chocolate ganache torte. It was dry and the topping was very thin. There was fresh made whipped cream but the buffet table (overall) was not well maintained. The table service was subpar. We had plates sitting on our table for long periods of time and would have liked to have more visits by the waitress for more pours of coffee. The wine selection is not what it used to be. My Oregon Pinot Gris was served in a stumpy Chardonnay glass (ugh). For the price of this meal....we should have been treated right and fed a phenomenal holiday meal. My father and mother had experienced at least two Thanksgiving meals at Glen-Ella in recent years and raved about how good it was, which was why he shelled out the money to take me and invite friends to eat there this past Thanksgiving. The worst part was the response of the wife (Michelle) of the husband/wife owners who replied to my email whereby I described the above meal/service and the excuses I got, contradicting statements I made as if she was there and witnessed what me, my dad and our fellow diners experienced, giving excuses for such poor service and food selections. She did say the next time we return to let her know. We're not going to risk another poor and expensive experience. WE WILL NEVER RETURN. Update.....it doesn't surprise me that Michelle replied the way she did to my review. I can tell you that most people who are disappointed with food/service do NOT write reviews either on Yelp! or other review sites. The lobby is bright and welcoming, the bar and restaurant was neatly kept and open, and the rooms were surprisingly spacious and updated. I've been to big brand hotels that weren't as updated! The menu and quality of food was exceptional! From a home cooked hot breakfast to the varied dinner menu. Everything that was available was delicious! My only complaint is that the serving staff in the diner, with one shining and amazing exception, didn't seem to be happy doing what they do and were either uninterested in serving us or unaware of what was on their menu. I wish I could recall her name, but my inlaws basically adopted her by the end of our first night there.

We knew right away we wanted a rustic wedding, speaking to both our childhoods. With my family from…read moreVirginia, my groom's family from Alabama, and our love of North Georgia, we zeroed in on several properties throughout this area. After visiting over five properties, all were either too rustic or too cookie cutter perfect. On our final site visit, we knew we had found THE place at Mountain Laurel Farm. The farm is located just inside the Chattahoochee National Forest which provides so many scenic views. Driving up, you're just taken away by the tranquil peace of the property. The barn itself is quite rustic, but it's so charming and still provides the basic necessities (restrooms, electricity). Although there is no climate control, we had no issue with the heat on our wedding date after opening all the doors and windows and adding a few household fans. I do wish there had been more resources in the catering room; I'm hoping Melody can make some upgrades there in the future (running water/industrial sink, ice machine, larger fridge/freezer). However, our caterer had no issues with making the catering area work for them. Melody, the property owner/manager, was incredibly easy to work with. She was so patient throughout the process, quickly answering all my questions and concerns. She has so much décor and so many props and furniture available at the barn, along with her linen rentals, you really only need to show up with your food and beverage. She had lots of good ideas about how to set-up the barn so that it would maximize space for our guests. We loved having access to the farmhouse for the wedding day. Although no one lodged there, it was a welcome place for me and my bridesmaids to finish getting ready, as well as a cool spot for our wedding party and us to rest after the ceremony and before photos. It was fun to look out onto the ceremony space before the ceremony and after and see all of our family and friends gathering for our special day. The property is located a short distance from a major interstate, and just off a main highway, with close access to resources (grocery store, entertainment and cultural activities, department chain stores). This was helpful to our friends and families, all traveling in from out of town. Most of our guests made a weekend of the trip, visiting Helen, wineries, water activities, and all the other things the area has to offer. There are many rental cabins close-by and we also held a block of hotel rooms in Helen which was convenient for our guests. If you are looking for a charming rustic location with wonderful amenities and breathtaking views, I highly recommend Mountain Laurel Farm for any wedding or social occasion!
