Client beware, my husband and I requested an estimate from Dukes Lawn-care on May 31st, 2025 to…read moretrim 3 holly trees. We were quoted $480.00 and agreed to pay half as a deposit to secure a time slot. 7weeks later , and after multiple attempts to call him and multiple texts messages, none of which were responded too we still have not had any work completed. Our check was already cashed and because no formal contract signed we lost our 240.00 deposit. DO NOT hire this company!! Unreliable, unresponsive and deceptive. We wished we would have read reviews prior to requesting a quote. We are not the only ones apparently leaving similar reviews.

Took deposit of $5,000 on May 04th. He told us 2 days (1 for prep and 2nd for Planting shrubs and…read moresod.) ** Bottom line Up Front: not honest, has many excuses for why this project did not get completed and after 8 weeks of him not having a date when this project would get finished, I had to stop his effort and and hire another landscaper at additional cost to redo his grading (very poor job), replant 8 arborvitaes and order the additional arborvitaes Duke's did not order of the 13 on contract, and order and install the sod.) *Sends an Invoice ontop of the $5,000 deposit stating he charges $1,500 a DAY for his labor and nothing in his contract or verbal ever stated he charges $1500 a day and counts for partial days where 1-2 hours of work done and charge 2 1/2 days!!  States his lawyer is contacting me for getting more money for work and shrubs he never completed and held me up past 8 weeks!! -------Read below for details of why none of this project was valid. --- No work or scheduling for next 4 weeks after I paid the deposit. I realized this was either a scam or a guy who could not do the work. I called the office and they said he was waiting on a trunk for delivery of my shrubs (only 8 arborvitaes and supposedly 3 Hydrangeas and we assumed sod but learned he never ordered the sod and later that there really was no waiting on the order for a truck delivery.) They said the truck would not deliver just my order and had to wait for other order to combine my delivery as it wasn't cost effective to deliver just my order. learned that was not true. --- I called again on June 07th asking what was going on and told "good news, your order was being delivered on June 09th." --- so now we are 6 weeks since my deposit: and heard nothing till I called back again. On June 14th, in my driveway, he asked for more time, (I asked him is he asking for 4-5 more days? and he asked for 14 more days. he would definitely be done by 04th of July. THAT did not happen.) --- June 16th he stated he had 80 lawns to mow and I argued that meant my project already past 6 weeks was on back burner and no definitive date to get completed. I had to argue with him for a date he would get started, and he greed to Tuesday, June 20. --- June 20th he started the grading, machine broke down in 1st hour no additional work that day, next day after the machine was fixed, they graded the red dirt and left the excessive gravel in the grading that he told me he would have removed during grading, but left the gravel and large pieces of concrete. --- June 27th comes back to plant 8 (of 13 ordered and supposed to be 4-6' arborvitaes, and said he thought 8 would be sufficient and they didn't have 4-6'. This is when I realized the waiting on a trunk since his order 4 weeks prior and then stating the shrubs were was not true.) he also planted the shrubs 7' from the fence line. measured by new landscaping company that i had to pay extra to move them to 3' from the fence line. * * he breaks 2 sprinkler lines with the auger and does try and fix them but did not buy enough pvc pipe. he left that evening with 2 large holes in the yard, did not come back the following day, then the 3rd day/June 29th comes back and fixes those broken sprinkler pipes. --- about June 23rd, he tells me his crew quit on him for a job that paid more money. I am still trying to be patient, but this 2 day job was now going into week 7 and no completion date known yet (stated rain, and now no crew, but we had MANY day without rain and he said he does not work Saturdays. what Landscaper does not work Saturdays??) --- Thursday, June 29th; I ask if he would be done by 04th of July (we planned company to come over to the house for a Pool & BBQ party and he said he would not, that he would order additional 6 arborvitaes and sod. but sod would be at least 2 more weeks as sod company told him they were backed up 2 weeks. (why would he have not ordered the sod May 05th as he told us on May 04th he was putting the order in the next day (May 05th, which was not true either then. ** Bottom line: Organization or prioritization were huge issues and what we learned multiple instances of what we strongly feel was him not being truthful. 1. do not pay him a deposit. 2. only pay in phases like pool companies do as he is not at the LEAST, reliable to get the job done. 3. recommend finding reliable landscapers that have many referrals (do not rely on "reviews" as I learned some people write their own reviews which are not valid.) ** I have a neighbor that warned me based on her horrid experience. I can share that, but will not use her name or specific work. i can ask her to share her experience if you would like to hear from her and suggest you heed her warning that I should have listened to.
