Not a lot has changed since we started to go over 12 years ago. Cons - It's becoming an outdated Farm, as weird as it is to say that. The upkeep has been on the decline - this place could be a gold mine for the fall season if done right and with a little bit of marketing; but, I don't see that turning around anytime soon. If it wasn't a family tradition we wouldn't probably give it a go anymore. Likelihood to return (1-10) - 3 Reason - Pumpkin cost is up there. Nothing is ever new or exciting to see. Back in the day you could pet the animals that came ip to the fence - those are even going away.

I gotta say that while there are few people you will meet in this lifetime that you encounter briefly and leave a lasting impression on you, we had the opportunity to meet Gene the pumpkin man himself. Let me say that Gene is one of those guys you'll meet and never forget. A very charismatic fella, 80 years young, rocking an orange shirt and orange cowboy hat to go along with his orange themed farm, and he's been slangin' pumpkins since 1957. Eager to talk and get to know you a bit and even shares many stories from his lifetime. It's easy to see why he's a local favorite. Plenty of pumpkins to choose from and in all shapes and sizes. Everything is marked pretty clearly on price as well. I even noticed a small booth where they sell fresh honey! Cool! Note that they only take cash or checks (no credit cards) but Gene also seems to use the honor system as well where you can pay later on if you like. While we appreciated the gesture, we ended up purchasing two mini pumpkins with the little cash we did have. Gene finding out we had drove to see his farm from Chicago ended up picking out a bag full of assorted squash for us to take home and enjoy. And of course, some verbal instruction on how to prepare each one. After spending some time talking with him, he even gave us some local spots worth checking out nearby. What a guy! Right when you park, you'll see a large area to buy goodies (pies, cookies, produce), you'll see animals to pet, and then blueberries to pick. We went in late July and the berries were abundant (and delicious). We definitely tried our way through some favorites and then picked entirely too many. We ended up eating most and adding tons to blueberry pancakes over our vacation weekend in South Haven. Can't remember the exact prices but cheaper than I've paid for berries all summer, I know that much. And we ALWAYS have blueberries in the house. Also loved the super sweet blueberry lemon sugar cookie that they had in their shop, and felt welcome by the friendly staff. Lastly, speaking to how close everything is both on the farm and off; this is quite close to downtown South Haven when driving, but still feels way out in the country. It's a perfect combo, IMO, and we'd come back again and again if we lived near here.

When we arrived today we were pretty bummed that bumbleberry changed how they run the farm. We used to be able to give everyone a bucket and then the blueberries would be weighed and we would take them home. Now, be prepared to pay 12 dollars a bucket(you get to keep it). It's not the same experience when you are walking to the fields and the entire family needs to share a single bucket. We also adored the low key barrel ride. I believe it was about 5 dollars a ticket in the past. Now, you must pay 12 dollars per child plus 5 dollars per adult to watch your child play and go on a barrel ride. The petting zoo, bumbleberry chair, tire castle, everything is gated off. We passed and noticed most families did the same. This would have cost our crew 45 dollars for one ride (two toddlers, 4 adults). What was once a quaint family farm now feels off. We will be picking somewhere else next year.

The handicap parking is far away for me. There are two close spots to the right of the doors, and that is not a difficult walk * SO MANY KINDS of everything: apples, squash, pumpkins, well, you know Michigan harvests. When we arrived we found arrived we found a very pleasant market/sales location. We went inside and found plenty of things for sale. Pies, cakes and other baked goods. The place reminded me of an old time market/store. Tastefully decorated and a very country/down home feel. We were directed towards the back to the refrigerated blueberries and other delicious looking items. We found our blueberries and were checked out by a very pleasant sales person. We surly will be back to such a pleasant location next time we need seasonal fruit!

Never have we tasted any strawberries BETTER THAN THE ONES we had yesterday. Too bad the strawberry season is so short in Michigan. Asparagus is freshly picked. We arrived around 10:15 (they open at 10) and they had people directing us where to park. It was really simple and easy. There were so many trees all around, with all the tree areas labeled for the various kind of apples. We wandered to see the beautiful pumpkin patch (so esthetic) and the cute little house for lovely photo ops! We were shocked to see that we didn't have people lined up waiting, but were able to capture some pictures. There is a corn-maze and you can pick as many apples as you want (I think it's weigh by the pound?) and they had some beautiful mums for sale as well! I highly recommend coming out for the fun space (including a hayride) if that's something you're interested in, but know that the later you go, the parking will be hectic, crowds will be ample and you'll have a lot to wait for. The other thing is that there is 3 different "Crane's" locations in the same area. They are all technically owned and operated by different people, so it just depends on which one you'd like to go to!

Once you pick the fruits, you pay for them by weight. They have a small truck to take you to the farm and they keep coming back every 15 mins to pick you up too. They also have some cute farm animals. They have a lot of farm to table stuff for sale. We bought some pasta sauce from their farm grown peppers and it was delicious. The flowers are beautiful, not over priced, and the bouquets were well put together. I have fond memories of coming out here in the crisp windy weather of fall to chose a pumpkin and some gourds. The pumpkins are always adorably painted, come in varying sizes, and, just like the flowers, aren't overpriced. My mom always complained I had to pick the biggest, most outrageous looking pumpkin in the world. Usually I got a large pumpkin with a famous painting on it like starry night or Mona Lisa.
