New Eltham Grill, what can I say?…read more Well first of all, i'm giving this place 5 stars, not because its my favourite restaurant/take out in the world, but as far as Turkish Kebab take outs go, this place is as good as it gets. Whilst a Doner Kebab is not exactly on par with a Tofu Runner Bean, Brown Rice Cherry Tomato salad, in terms of its detoxification effects, it IS quite satisfying late at night to quench hunger pangs. New Eltham grill does a very tasty Doner Kebab, that is not only never greasy but uses 'good meat' as far as I can tell. Personally, I often opt for the healthier 'Shish Lamb and Chicken' Kebab combo which is actually pieces of meat, as opposed to the random bits you'd rather not know about minced together in a 'Doner'. The Shish is charcoal grilled, is juicy and has a delicate flavour to it that doesn't make you feel sick 1 hour later. New Eltham grill don't stop there, the salad they give with their kebabs is always plentiful and looks green and lush, as opposed to rivals or the 'lettuce' used in a McChicken sandwich. They also give a slice of fresh lemon large and a couple of yummy jalepenos with it too, cucumbers, onions, and tomatoes, and a choice of garlic or chilli sauce as well as a fresh large white pita bread. The main thing that sets New Eltham grill apart from its rival kebab takeaways is quite simply, quality and quantity. Hence why I give it 5 stars, since it literally is as good as those kind of kebabs get! For the more adventurous of you, they offer Turkish (and also Middle Eastern) sweets like Baklava, as well as usual take out fare; Burgers, Fries etc.

Sweets and savories in the window beg one to come in for a visit…read more However, once inside, it's not too clear, initially, what or how one orders. If you're behind a crowd, then just follow their lead and all will become right. After months of wanting to snag an outside table, the bf and I were fortunate enough to do so on a Sunday afternoon. This was our first foray into HMF. I went in to order cakes and lattes, pay and then return to my perch on the pavement. The place, fortunately, wasn't so busy, so the goodies arrived in fairly short order. The carrot cake, moist and not overly spiced, was a treat to eat. The Victoria sponge cake, looking so good in the window, was not tasting so good in the mouth. The decorative strawberry that had been on the slice that eventually made it to our table (indentation where berry bit had been, slightly reddish stain on the whipped cream) was absent upon arrival. More importantly, the sponge cake itself was quite dry and the whipped cream layer was meager with nary a strawberry to be seen there either. Word to the wise: it's a great-looking cake, but not so great to eat. Well, at least not the one that was out when we came strolling in. The lattes, though not of 'third wave' coffee caliber, were good, and, more importantly, neither too hot, nor too cold. I'd be keen on trying breakfast there as the eggs, sausages, and tomatoes being consumed by those sitting near us looked scrumptious. Well, let's hope that they taste as good as they look!

Hmmm... My craving for naughtiness peaked as I ambled through zone five today. This emotional and…read moreall to frequent urge had to be fulfilled but luckily I spotted Broadway Traditional Fish & Chips. GREASE! It had to be mine. On entering this little takeaway eatery I noted that they also sold kebabs and fried chicken. I couldn't help but smile when the man behind the counter pointedly made me aware that they sold 'Fried Chicken.' 'Dude! Come on!' I ordered dirty sausage in batter with chips. Sarah S order a halloumi and salad pitta with chilli sauce. Although my order was really good, her halloumi sandwich kicked my greasy treats ass. I had seriously bad food envy. She let me share. All in all I was surprised by the quality and price of the food. When I am back in Bexleyheath I will be getting myself a halloumi & salad pitta for sure.

The cod was foil wrapped so was still lovely and hot when I got home, but on opening the sealed package the aroma that hit me was literally mouth watering. The cod was cooked beautifully (melt in the mouth kind of beautiful) and was accompanied by tomatoes, onions and a little chilli sauce. What a healthy and unexpected tasty delight for a wheat intolerant person, to be able to venture in to a chip shop and have a truly wonderful (and healthy!) meal! The owner is charming, his staff efficient and now I know that he fries his chips in separate oil to the fish (the batter contains wheat) AND changes the oil every day, I'll be popping in for another treat very soon - hot chips with salt and vinegar! Heaven! I may also order a chicken shish (minus the pitta) to go with it.... Highly recommended! A*
