Sitting on a bench enjoying the view.
    Joyce G.

My rating is based on how the campus looked. Some of the buildings looked really nice with many outside areas to sit. Some sitting areas really nice due to the vegetation or the seats themselves with a matching table. What I dislike the most was the dorm area. I've never seen multiple raggedy looking couches!! They looked disgustingly dirty as if they were ready for the city to come and pick them up! These couches were right outside of the dorms in plain sight. It just looked really, really bad. I can't imagine students really want to sit in those things! What I like is that I noticed you couldn't enter some of the buildings unless you have a badge.

The only map of the Harvey Mudd Campus hidden away from the street... Almost like they don't care or want people to find it

Unimpressed so far... Here for a college visit wandered around campus looking for signage or an info map. The only physical map is hidden off the street immediately outside the Admissions Office almost like they don't want people to find it. There is a map on the website so good idea to printout as there is no guest Wi-Fi on campus.

And without Sherry and Charles being there for me, showing support and encouragement, I honestly wouldn't have. I feel so good and positive about my future. They honestly will hold your hand do whatever it takes for you to graduate. I have mixed feelings about my experience at U.S. Colleges in Montclair…read more First, I want to give a huge thank you to my instructor, Mrs. Alex. She was truly the best part of this program. She genuinely cared about her students and made sure we understood the material instead of just memorizing it. She was always patient, encouraging, and willing to answer every question we had. She created a classroom environment where we felt comfortable learning, and you could tell she wanted every one of us to succeed. Because of her, I felt confident in the skills I learned throughout the program. I honestly can't thank her enough for everything she did for us. At the beginning of the program, everything was running smoothly. There was a front office employee named Dale who was incredibly helpful, especially when it came to financial aid and answering questions. She was always available, knowledgeable, and made the process much less stressful. Unfortunately, after Dale left, things became very disorganized. Communication became difficult, especially as we got closer to completing the program and preparing for externships. Many of us reached out with questions, but it often took a long time to receive a response, or we didn't receive one at all. The biggest issue has been the externship placement process. It's now been a few weeks since I completed my classes, and I still have not been placed at an externship site. Several of my classmates are experiencing the same issue. We've been trying to contact the school for updates, but communication has been inconsistent. This has become stressful because many of us have jobs, family responsibilities, or are returning to college soon and need to complete our required externship hours. Overall, I think the quality of the education depends heavily on the instructor. Mrs. Alex deserves five stars for everything she did for our class. However, the administration and organization of the externship process have been disappointing. I hope the school improves its communication and placement process because students deserve better support after working so hard to complete the program.

Reflections on transfer student experience: Quickly integrated into social events and groups. Many many offerings including about 5 BSU-related events in 4 days. Each campus has its own BSU, plus there is the office of Black Student Affairs, and so much overlap. Though the overall percentage of Black students could be higher, the ability to find one's people and be supported by the school is great so far. (and there are many professors of color) Lots of new-school-year plant-related events and artsy events (make ___ for your dorm decor and get to know people kind of thing) Professors: there are good and bad everywhere, but so far all professors are great and classes are happening at Pitzer, Pomona, CMC. Treatment of transfers: a little slow. They seem to forget they have transfers at key moments, so resilience when first onboarding is needed. Not a reason to reject Pitzer, just something to prepare for. Academic Accommodations: slow from this office. Much promised but seems so far like students have to bug the office for what is due. Not a reason to reject Pitzer, just something to prepare for. Libraries: as non-students taking a self-guided tour, looks good. Lots of different types of spaces in the beautiful main library, including 2 treadmill desks!. Scripps has a little library that is so pretty. Lovely garden spaces: the Botanic Gardens are HUGE and right next to the CCA (campus-owned apartments where many upperclass can live). Campus has newly revised student garden and associated club. Many lovely spaces on campus to appreciate. Cute downtown has enough to cater to college kids. As with any college decision, student must find the vibe and finances that match them, but Pitzer has much to offer if these 2 things are in line for you.

I originally entered the Master's program for a degree is classical guitar performance. Before the end of my first semester, I was offered a direct route into their Ph.D. program. I took them up on their offer and have no regret whatsoever. It took only a few weeks in the Master's program to realize that it their program was a great fit for me. The teachers, all of whom were personable and highly knowledgeable in their respective fields of expertise, were excellent insofar as they left it up to the student to forge his or her own path; they were not going to hold your hand, however, if you needed guidance, they were there to help. Some may find such a thing to be disconcerting. As far as I am concerned, it is a matter of having the student realize that, once you are out vying for a teaching position (or any other position for that matter), no one is going to coddle you. It is your responsibility to take initiative. Another attractive feature is the student-teacher ratio. The classes were never larger than 12 students. The average was about 6-8 per class. I much prefer this than being one of 100+ students in a lecture hall where interaction and discussion is minimal at best. The campus is lovely, which can pretty much be said of the surrounding campuses as well. The consortium works very well, particularly when it comes to accessing other libraries. The library resources are exceptionally good and this, of course, includes the librarians who have an encyclopedic knowledge and a amicable disposition. I cannot speak for the other departments save for saying that students I have come to know and befriend in other fields of study have had far more positive to say about CGU than negative.

If a student is going in the wrong direction, they will let the student fail. If you try to petition they will deny you and if you try to file a grievance the staff supports one another in defending it, even if they are wrong. In other words, if they don't like you; you will fail and you'll still have to pay for that. Choose a different IS&T PhD program. There are many to choose from.

The meet is touted as 'the world's largest cross country invitational' I hate to admit this but based on the website, I thought it was going to be a complete madhouse but it was so well organized! There is a parking fee (paid on site and in cash) and a per person spectator fee (which you can pay online or in person). My review is two fold- a spectators view and a runners view: Spectator: You're in a huge stadium, and while you can only see the jumbotron, you're basically getting a birdeye view of the race because there are drones and cameras on the course. The sports announcer gives everyone in the arena a play by play so you aren't missing a thing. Runner: My son said the course was nice- a combination of asphalt and trail running. There was plenty of merch available and it wasn't too overpriced. The t-shirts are nice quality. Overall, this is one of the most organized invitationals I've been to. Well done!
