The Farm is so fun--clearly students have put in some effort to cultivate many mini gardens with succulents, flowering ground cover, some fruit trees, a compost pile, and more. There's a large structure in the middle with a Hobbit hole style mini entrance door and then benches, chairs, and many alcoves, a high ceiling with colored glass windows --it seems to be a cool resting place when people working the grounds need a break. It was at least 10 degrees cooler in there! On the way back to the car, we passed through the studio art building. The courtyard housed several student art pieces carved and structured of wood--fascinating!

Pomona college in Claremont California is a huge and beautiful campus…read more My twins and they're theater club went to the theater festival here on Sat 14th, Sun, 15th, and Mon the 16th 2026. They had a wonderful time. Most of the people were welcoming and friendly. Some unfortunately were stuck up and rude but the kids didn't let it bother them. They enjoyed all the festivities and performances. They also got to be backstage and help with the performances. They had a bunch of different workshops. My twins and the theater kids had a blast!

In regards to CGU, I applied for 2020 Fall admission to their PhD Organizational Behavior program…read more I attended the information event, I spoke with admissions counselors, I spoke with professors in the program in person regarding research interests, and attended one lab meeting, with plans to attend more. I thought everything was set, and then received news that my application was deferred to their MA program. I was advised that I was to pay $30,000 per year for two years, and then if I were offered admission to their PhD program after that, I would have the opportunity to pay $15,000-20,000 per year after that for my degrees. After speaking with existing students, I learned that a.) the program itself is falling apart with professors leaving for other institutions, "orphaning" most PhD students within the program, and b.) the rigor of the classes is (and I quote here) "disappointing," with a limited scope of professional foci and research interests. The school seems to push their associations with Positive Psychology, a field in which the scientific validity is dubious at best. They seem to push out research articles with "click-baity" (for lack of a better term) titles, which are picked up by media outlets and spread around like Buzzfeed videos. I'm not here to create "clickbait", Buzzfeed-quality research, I'm here for a fucking serious degree. Thank goodness I dodged the bullet with CGU.

I swear one student coded a neural network while waiting in line for a sandwich. As a recruiter, I showed up fully expecting to be the one with answers, but these students asked questions that made me briefly consider going back to school--or joining a witness protection program. One kid said, "Let's talk about edge computing," and I said, "Sure, let me just... Google that real quick under the table." The campus is gorgeous, the staff were super welcoming, and best of all: THE PARKING. Sweet, glorious parking. I found a spot faster than I find Wi-Fi at a Starbucks. I didn't have to circle like a stressed-out vulture or invent a new yoga pose to squeeze into a spot built for tricycles. 10/10 would park there recreationally. Honestly, if brains were a currency, this place is Fort Knox. The students are smart, the vibes are good, and the event was organized with the kind of efficiency that makes you wonder if someone time-traveled to make it happen. Would I go again? Absolutely. Would I prepare harder next time? Also yes--maybe with flashcards and a stress ball. Harvey Mudd: come for the job fair, stay because you accidentally enrolled in a quantum mechanics class just by making eye contact with a student.

Reflections on transfer student experience: Quickly integrated into social events and groups. Many many offerings including about 5 BSU-related events in 4 days. Each campus has its own BSU, plus there is the office of Black Student Affairs, and so much overlap. Though the overall percentage of Black students could be higher, the ability to find one's people and be supported by the school is great so far. (and there are many professors of color) Lots of new-school-year plant-related events and artsy events (make ___ for your dorm decor and get to know people kind of thing) Professors: there are good and bad everywhere, but so far all professors are great and classes are happening at Pitzer, Pomona, CMC. Treatment of transfers: a little slow. They seem to forget they have transfers at key moments, so resilience when first onboarding is needed. Not a reason to reject Pitzer, just something to prepare for. Academic Accommodations: slow from this office. Much promised but seems so far like students have to bug the office for what is due. Not a reason to reject Pitzer, just something to prepare for. Libraries: as non-students taking a self-guided tour, looks good. Lots of different types of spaces in the beautiful main library, including 2 treadmill desks!. Scripps has a little library that is so pretty. Lovely garden spaces: the Botanic Gardens are HUGE and right next to the CCA (campus-owned apartments where many upperclass can live). Campus has newly revised student garden and associated club. Many lovely spaces on campus to appreciate. Cute downtown has enough to cater to college kids. As with any college decision, student must find the vibe and finances that match them, but Pitzer has much to offer if these 2 things are in line for you.

And without Sherry and Charles being there for me, showing support and encouragement, I honestly wouldn't have. They went above and beyond to stand by me and gave me all the tools and support for me to succeed. And I am forever grateful. Today I am a Certified Medical Assistant and I'm so happy for them. I feel so good and positive about my future. They honestly will hold your hand do whatever it takes for you to graduate. A heartfelt thank you to Sherry and Charles for believing in me when I didn't believe in myself. I promise you, if you choose to attend US College for your career, you will not regret it.

I have mixed feelings about my experience at U.S. Colleges in Montclair…read more First, I want to give a huge thank you to my instructor, Mrs. Alex. She was truly the best part of this program. She genuinely cared about her students and made sure we understood the material instead of just memorizing it. She was always patient, encouraging, and willing to answer every question we had. She created a classroom environment where we felt comfortable learning, and you could tell she wanted every one of us to succeed. Because of her, I felt confident in the skills I learned throughout the program. I honestly can't thank her enough for everything she did for us. At the beginning of the program, everything was running smoothly. There was a front office employee named Dale who was incredibly helpful, especially when it came to financial aid and answering questions. She was always available, knowledgeable, and made the process much less stressful. Unfortunately, after Dale left, things became very disorganized. Communication became difficult, especially as we got closer to completing the program and preparing for externships. Many of us reached out with questions, but it often took a long time to receive a response, or we didn't receive one at all. The biggest issue has been the externship placement process. It's now been a few weeks since I completed my classes, and I still have not been placed at an externship site. Several of my classmates are experiencing the same issue. We've been trying to contact the school for updates, but communication has been inconsistent. This has become stressful because many of us have jobs, family responsibilities, or are returning to college soon and need to complete our required externship hours. Overall, I think the quality of the education depends heavily on the instructor. Mrs. Alex deserves five stars for everything she did for our class. However, the administration and organization of the externship process have been disappointing. I hope the school improves its communication and placement process because students deserve better support after working so hard to complete the program.
