My daughter, wife and I visited Hasir on a cold, damp Wednesday night in Berlin. A short walk from the Hackescher Markt S-Bahn station, one can easily find the place tucked in a courtyard off the main street. We were warmly greeted at the door and promptly shown to our table in the nicely decorated and inviting dining room. I'd say about half the tables were full this time of the night around 7pm. After introducing himself, our waiter quickly determined that our command of the German language was severely limited and switched to English. For drinks, I choose a Turkish beer, Efes, from a rather short list of beer choices (at least for Berlin standards), my wife went with a glass of Turkish red wine from a much more extensive list of wines and my daughter picked her usual soda. To start, we ordered hummus as we always do at a Turkish restaurant but found we had a choice of the standard version or one with bits of meat and other stuff in it. We choose the upgraded version as it was something different. Along with the hummus, we got a huge hunk of bread that was blown up like a balloon and very tasty. They also provided some small dishes of yogurt, cheese, tomatoes and butter along with the bread. While the hummus was good, I would probably go back to the tried and true version on a future visit. It was tasty and we enjoyed it but perhaps a bit too much for us. For our entrees, my daughter went with the bursa kebap with a yummy yogurt dollop that she thoroughly enjoyed. My wife choose a different kebap (sorry don't remember the name but check the picture) that was wrapped in a tortilla like shell and served with two kinds of yogurt that she loved. I went with my usual Adana kebap that was served with rice, fries and a small cuban salad. I could have done without the fries but they were fine. The kebap though was very well prepared and to my liking. I wished I had had saved some of the bread earlier to go with it but I instead stole some yogurt from the ladies' plates to spice it up a bit more. The grilled vegetables were a welcome treat as was the rice. The coban salad had a slightly sweet dressing to it that I found yummy but at this point I was running out of room and couldn't finish it. I would have preferred to have ben served the salad in advance of my main meal but that's not how they roll here. Service here was first rate. Our waiter was very attentive to our needs and helpful in suggesting items from the menu as well as describing them. The menu did have subtitles in English that made selecting even easier for us. There was a large group seated behind us (perhaps an engagement party?) that was at times loud but never bothersome and they added energy to the dining room. There looks to be a nice courtyard outside the main dining room but the weather this night was not condusive to outdoor dining. We would come back here in a heartbeat on a future visit to Berlin. Listen, if you want to taste the best doner in the world? Here it is, from the one who originated it* This place is good, real good. I had a few other doners from different restaurants and tried to convince my boyfriend to fork out the € for the best of the best - I did my research I told him. Time out named them the best doner I told him. He finally agreed. Guess what? We went back the next day! We had the lamb and beef platters and kebab. The platters were huge and I recommend to share. The sandwich was amazing, soft fluffy pita, some fresh juicy tomatoes, fresh lettuce and shaved doner kebab. It was fan-freaking-fabulous. My boyfriend keeps trying to find the same quality back in NYC. If anyone knows, please do tell me. Turkish is usually dry and spiced well but lacks saucy stuff that we enjoy. Hasir proved to be like nothing else or any other doner we have ever had - and we have had them all over the world - yes, even in Asia. Listen, my boyfriend is picky and not adventurous in terms of food, he returned to Berlin on a second business trip and went to hasir multiple times, just because he wanted it so bad after we left the first time. He even came back and boasted about it...really? I reminded him who's idea it was to go in the first place... If you go to Berlin, go to the kruezberg one, and then you can chill in a cool lounge/ bar on orienstrass after...or shop the cute little boutiques...it's Berlin's answer to soho/west village... *from time out Berlin, and various sources. read more

First it looked very promising, nice location, not crowded. Though, there are a few things which are not acceptable for a restaurant at this price level: 1. The waiter didn't bother to continue a phone call while dropping the menu at the table. 2. While cleaning another table the staff had a loud and long conversation over our heads, so loud we needed to stop our conversation 3. Food quality wasn't better than just acceptable. 4. No coffee or desert offer. We paid and left. One thing is for sure, we will not return. read more

Went with a friend for light dinner and ordered the lahmacun and beef pie. They were delicious but we enjoyed the Lahmacun more. The lemon with chili and salt made the taste more tasty. Hope to go next time to try their kebabs as they looked super good. The waiters were friendly. read more

A great Turkish restaurant in the vibrant Hackescher Markt area. The restaurant is very nice and prices are really good. The waiter was very pleasant and the food arrived quite quick as well. We had all some sort of grill dishes and they all were cooked to perfection. The lamb skewers very moist and tasty. Can certainly recommend it. read more

We went here after 10pm and were pleased to find they were still serving dinner. The courtyard setting was a nice surprise and there were thoughtful blankets at very table for chilly evenings. I asked the waiter about 'paunch soup' to which he responded 'it's Turkish soup, you don't like it it lady.' I persisted and asked what was in it, vegetables? No, he said, it had bacon. I ended up ordering the lentil soup instead and the chopped tomato salad - Acili Antep Ezmeci while my husband ordered the Beyti kebab. The red wine from Turkey was smooth and soft, the soup delicious. The food was good but not outstanding. We had an experience similar to Ben M. on tripadvisor. The waiter was somewhat indifferent and really put us off by suggesting we add the tip. We asked for the itemized bill and another waiter brought it to us, pointing out that gratuity had already been added. Not cool!! read more

My wife and I came here on a recent visit to Berlin. Fortunately, the evening we came here was beautiful and warm. So while we weren't able to eat on the outside sidewalk tables, we had a seat along the wide open windows. We split a borek appetizer and I ordered the lamb kabobs with vegetables. There isn't really a good way to describe the kabobs other than that they passed the test. I would definitely recommend a stop at this place for anyone looking for a traditional, tasty, and affordable Turkish meal. As a bonus, for a visitor who had never been to Berlin before, the neighborhood that this location is in is very interesting and lively and should not be missed. read more

Fantastic! The 6 cold appetizer tray was fantastic served with fresh hot bread that was puffy straight out of the oven and gently deflated as it cooled. Lamb kabobs were amazing. Turkish tea is another must have while you are there. read more

My friends and I decided to stop by this place following the Berlin marathon. I saw it was well reviewed on Yelp so I naturally thought it was worth taking a chance on. The restaurant is in a touristy neighbourhood but is well appointed and it made a good first impression. That is, until I was introduced to our arrogant waiter. As we were getting seated he seemed very anxious and insistent that we choose a wine. I inquired if the restaurant would allow us to bring in outside wine (we happened to have a bottle on hand) and charge us a corkage fee (a practice that is quite common in some areas of North America and Europe). In return I got a snort and a lecture on how the restaurant "was a business". I'm well aware of the economics behind the restaurant industry and was simply asking a question. His response, with the implication that I was an idiot for even asking, was not well received by me. Bristling, I then consulted the wine menu while the waiter animatedly insisted we try a certain type of white wine (can't recall the name). When I told him we wanted the Pinot Grigio he again insisted that we take his suggestion "because it was cheaper". I insisted he bring us what we asked for and he made a big show of flapping shut the wine list and storming off. The rest of the evening were a series of rude encounters with this jacka**. At one point, he (in elevated tones) boasted about how he once served Prince Charles and was once rated the best waiter in Europe (1998), I felt like saying "That might be true mate, but in 2012, you are a condescending jerk." The coup-de-grace for the evening was when he came over, after the table next to us had left, to inform us how much they tipped him. Wow, classy! In the end, I'm pretty sure he overcharged us too because the bill was written out in a series of codes that were indecipherable. Nice place, good food, but the service SUCKED. I'll never go back. Ironically, the next day as I was exploring Berlin by bike, I found another restaurant called "Hasir" in the Turkish district. I looked much more authentic and popular. While I didn't have time to check it out, I will try it next time. read more

We ate here twice. Just great. Fun, moderate scale establishment with lots of locals. If you're a tourist, they can get help you navigate through the menu. Turkish house wine. Tough to find, but worth looking for if you have a sense of adventure. Prices were reasonable, staff attentive. It gets busy! Lots of good choices. read more

No lie, when I came here at 11 at night, I was ridiculously dru-..... hungry. A friend and I stumbled upon the bright lights and fancy looking menu while searching for doner kebabs and a readily accessible bathroom and thought, "Close enough!" Being very....hungry, we got an appetizer to share for two but my friend decided to also order a clay pot meal after we couldn't find a doner-type dish in our starving state. Because I was equally ravished, I ordered the chicken clay pot dish with rice as well and we were presented with a plethora of food to satisfy any particularly "hungry" person close to midnight on a Friday. The appetizer mixer I remember as having many fried portions, but was intensely filling. The chicken was not so much a doner type, off the spinning spit, but more so cooked in off the bone pieces with peppers and onions. It was delicious and satisfying but when I woke up and wasn't so "hungry" the next morning, I was shocked by the 33 euro bill that accompanied the night before. Mein Gott! This place is better for a well thought out dinner. If you're particularly "hungry," stick to doner stands and mini pizzas. On the plus side, this place takes credit cards unlike the majority of German joints. Hallelujah! If you couldn't tell, hungry means drunk. read more

If i could rate it zero I would! The experience was terrible. Our waiter was rude, unaccommodating, told us that items weren't available when clearly they were, and worst of all when we put 50 euros down for our 35 euro dishes (which is expensive for what we got) he pointed out that tip wasn't included. It doesn't stop there ... once we left a tip (although frustrated) we realized that he had taken his own tip from the 50 euros we had left and the change we received wasn't the full amount!!! i went on my first dinner date here with my boyfriend, so this place holds some fond memories for me nice authentic atmosphere with really fresh foods including lamb, kebap, chicken, lentil soup and a great starter platter that has hummus, baba ganoush, tatsziki, flatbread and other yummy snackycakes. the meats are grilled and the service is fast. really nice place if you are into turkish food. read more

Went today for dinner. I cannot understand where the excellent reviews are coming from. The food was mediocre at best for anyone who has had (way way cheaper) Turkish food in Turkey, but I could accept that since this is not Istanbul. What pissed me off was that the service was rude, my dish did not come with rice as stated in the menu and the waitors answer was "no, no rice", my wifes dish (that came overcooked) had options that the waiter simply chose by himself in the kitchen I guess, the waiter pushed to select certain dishes, the kunefe was not in any way as it is supposed to be, 10% service was added (20€) by default to the bill...and then to top it off, as we were waiting for our change (after the self imposed service fee), the waiter said "keep the change?"
