When the fabric of society is torn to shreds either by alien invasion or zombie apocalypse, this is where I will surely go to make my last stand. Like our hero in Shawn of the Dead, faced with the end of the world, this is where I will go for a pint and wait for it all to blow over.
Navigating your way through the national park to find hat head itself is the easy part, now you have to tackle straight street. Once on this road you'll need to keep your eyes peeled. A little way down straight street you'll see a general store and bait shop... Keep going there's a long ways to go. Shortly after that you'll see a phone box and general store/garage. Eyes PEELED yeah?
Now here comes the tricky and most important bit you need to pay ca...Hang on. Wait, you're there. Huh, it's at the end of that really straight road called straight street. That was easy.
Now, to the club itself. We visit this place in October of every year as a family tradition. The place is located a stones throw from the amazing beach, caravan park and slightly further on you'll find a beautiful walk around the headland via the creek (superb place to swim).
For a small club in a town as small as this, there's not really much they don't have. Booze, food, gambling, atm, pool table, barefoot lawn bowls, bottle shop, ice bags. You're not getting fine dining or posh bar experience here, nor would you want to, It's part of it's charm. They have enough selection of beers and wines at really cheep prices and the food is always no frills and thrills but well made.
While I believe it's much busier during the summer months with the crowds from the caravan park they still put on plenty during the week, bowls comps, fishing club stuff, meat raffles etc it's always happening at night. Slightly off topic but if Mum or Dad needed a rest and wanted to wait here while the other distracts some little people I strongly recommend downloading the Geocaching app (think treasure hunting using your phones GPS) https://www.geocaching.com/mobile/ People have set up a few in the area and none are all that far away from the club
Great place for groups who want to to stop in after a swim or have a bowl and watch the day go by. I love coming back to this place every year. As you reading this here are my witness one year the older bar woman will confess her indifference to me was all a front and will hug me like a mother does her son.
Maybe that hug will be our first and last because, you know? Zombie apocalypse and all. read more
