Raleigh Iron Works - Raleigh Iron Works

    Raleigh Iron Works

Raleigh Iron Works is a mixed use development just outside downtown Raleigh. There are restaurants,…read moreshops, offices, a yoga studio, gym and apartments. Parking is available in several lots and there is also a parking garage. I hadn't been to RIW since it first opened and the parking and offerings have expanded with plans to keep expanding on the 19 acres with one more phase. The Peden Steel Company once operated on the property. I liked how remnants of that steel were used throughout the development as the property was redeveloped. The Bow Truss Building produced munition during World War I. Barges were produced during World War II. The original steel was used for the buildings; art; benches; planters; and monuments. The courtyard of the Double Gable Building shows the exposed steel. This is a nice area to sit outside and has a fireplace for when the temperature cools. Native plants were used for the landscaping, and a full-time horticulturist was hired. The native shrubs and perennials provide food for pollinators, and native plants need less water. I could tell that a lot of thought went into the selections for landscaping. There are murals on the property too, one near the parking garage, another outside of the parking garage that you can't miss driving by and another above the pool. On the last Saturday morning of the month, a history and art tour of Raleigh Iron Works is offered, where you can learn more about RIW.

Raleigh and the Iron works reminded us so much of MPLS. Highly recommend stopping here. We definitely will be back to explore more shops and restaurants.

Had an office here for two years. I missed the email about my lease auto renewing because I was…read morehelping take care of my dying father. Right after it auto renewed I asked them for another week to review the lease so I could make a decision on what I was going to do but they would not accommodate and said that the auto renewal was in my original lease agreement so there was nothing they could do. My rent nearly doubled form the original. So expect significant jumps if you're going to renew. In the welcome email make sure you see the small print that they will charge you a "restoration fee" when you leave which the email said was $3.5 per square feet. Small print and easy to miss. Now they are trying to charge me 4.5 per square feet due to market changes which is a nearly $500 charge. They collections also called me and said they needed to collect two months of rent that weren't paid several months ago. I sent them the bank statement that shows I paid it. Something is very screwed up with their billing. They aren't going to release my $1,600 retainer until all this is resolved. This place does not work with you. The people at the office blame corporate and say you have to deal with them. Theres no number for them you just have to send an email and hope for a response. Very frustrating. With the amount they charge for rent they could at least provide free coffee. But they actually tripled the price per cup since I started.
