Wifi is not reliable, but this is a remote area, and be aware of that. Since it is usually not very warm, there is no air conditioning. In the summer for a few weeks, they also have pesky non-biting flies, so you cannot open your windows too wide. Staff was very cheerful, and helpful. Location is right next door to the train station, so you should not have any problems walking with your luggage to the hotel. Be aware there are a few steps to get into the lobby, and your room may be down a flight of stairs. I do not believe they have an elevator. They provided all of the gear we needed for each activity, so we just had to bring a change of clothes. The guides were confident and helpful when describing the activities and safety procedures. They also provided lots of great photos from the activities which captured just how fun it was. The white water rafting (classic version) was a blast. The river we went on had several intense rapids and provided a spectacular view of that area of Norway. Before getting to the last and biggest rapid, the guides pulled the boat over and allowed our group to look at the rapid to decide if we felt comfortable going down it, which we did and it was insane! The canyoning (extreme version) was intense! The trip included repelling down several waterfalls, various natural rock slides, pools, climbing over tons of rocks and much more. The guides did a great job of explaining each part of the activity and keeping us safe. I'll admit, the first waterfall we repelled down was very high and I had a mild panic attack about half way down it. The guides repelled with me down the next few waterfalls and motivated me which helped me feel safe and secure. Since it lasted almost 6 hours, they gave us a snack midway and a warm campfire to roast hot dogs over at the end. I can't say enough about this company and their guides. I highly recommend a visit if you're in the Geilo area. It's well worth it!

Although we didn't stay at the hotel, we were treated to tea and coffee with delicious homemade apple cake, a Norwegian tradition. We toured around this gorgeous location, and met several lovely locals who were employees. Such kind people, gorgeous old hotel, great food in the most stunning of scenery you've ever seen. I would LOVE to return and stay a few days just to really soak in this hotel and it's beautiful surroundings!

It was originally built as a sanatorium in 1896, but it was never used for its intended purpose. Instead, it became popular as a hotel because of the Bergen Railway. After the Bergen Railway was opened in 1909, and especially after the Flåm Railway was connected with the Bergen Railway in 1940 it became a go to destination but times and fortune change. My first impression; I thought I was in an old folks home. It's on different floor levels within so one goes up/down a few steps to get to different rooms. It's not for wheelchair users. We arrived here without any welcome as 'cash cows'. We were part of the Flåm £15O a head railway trip off Norwegian Prima. Our guide walked us up a slope from the station, in the rain, into the hotel, on a wet dank afternoon, only to tell us to go down two floors inside, for rather poor - tasting filtered cool coffee that sat on the tables in flasks. As we were cash cows other cash cows who were there from an earlier trip had blocked the narrow hallway in which was annoying given the cold rain as we were held outside jostling to get in. As we were a crowd we were put in an ugly nondescript room packed tight with fellow travellers. It resembled a school assembly hall with a public sector school dinner approach. So once we got into the downstairs room allocated for us we poured flasked coffee into tiny hotel style cold cups ending up with lukewarm lousy coffee which is unpleasant. If the (cold, limp, thin) waffles that sat plated on a top table were loving made fresh by the hotel's chef, from the finest flour, mountain butter and cream, treacly cane sugar from Mauritius and fresh free range double yolked XL eggs from happy chickens living their best life on a mountain side then sadly it isn't working as these potentially microwaved limp offerings had all the hallmarks of vegetable oil and powdered egg factory manufacturing. The raspberry jam (I expected cloudberry) and runny sour cream helped but honestly if you were served this stuff in a local cafe you'd be reluctant to pay and you wouldn't return. Given it's a £150 a head they have a cheek serving this rubbish. Having looked around the hotel and its surroundings I was glad ours was a brief visit. If the food served to guests is anything like the poor quality we got it has little going for it except the location. I have no desire to return.

Dont expect a Hilton hotel, cause it isnt, but the rooms are big and comfy with kitchen included. The staff are amazingly helpful(!), offering a service far beyond what you might expect from expensive hotels. The place also got a very cool bikeshop, so dont freak out if you forgot to bring your helmet or a warm sweatshirt. The place is often crowded with tourists, and is generelly quite expensive, but not more than similar places. However, you are in the middle of nowhere, and do not expect to find a grocery store or fancy shopping centers nearby. Bring your own lunch to avoid bankrupcy (and dont forget your camera). Be adviced to book your room in advance. Or else you might have to share bedroom.
