This cafe is located in a semi quiet location, far from busy foot traffic, save for when the train line right in front of the cafe makes a stop. I ordered the kimchi egg pancake that seemed like a fusion of too many things, but I wanted to be adventurous! I like egg pancake, I like kimchi, I like fried chicken so what could go wrong. They topped it with a salsa that had cilantro in it. I hate cilantro. Perhaps it was the cilantro ruining it, but i did feel like there was too much going on in the dish and the chicken and kimchi were relatively being buried by the other overwhelming flavors. By far one of the BEST brunch experiences I've had. Loved the atmosphere, the food was spectacular, and the staff was great. Although it's a little pricey, it was worth every penny. The lamb was juicy and tender and flavorful, and it went sooo well with the pickled cabbage. There were also some pumpkin sprinkled on the side. Definitely a high quality brunch dish. Drinks: 5 I love how customers have the choice to customize their drinks. You can tweek the aroma, acidity, sweetness, body, and aftertaste of almost any drink. I got a mocha with extra sweetness (mmm :)). My friend ordered tea (Milky oolong), and it was also an amazing experience. There was an elaborate tea set and she could refill her tea up to 6 times. The tea itself was unique and spectacular. Another plus is the latte art. The people who brew the coffee there are well known (award winning barista?!). If you're a coffee snob or simply a hipster, this place is for you. Run by one of the World Barista Championship judges, they will do your coffee however you want it. You could probably ask for it in a funky cup and they will probably accommodate. They also hold cupping sessions, just need to ask when. Their tea game ain't too shabby either, but it can be a little cumbersome pouring through so many filters. The food here is a funky fusion with fresh ingredients and on the healthier side of things. I ordered the Kimcheese Burger...ha-ha get it? It's not really a "burger" per se as you can't really eat it with two hands but with a knife and fork. The kimchee went well with the cheese, and the pork belly was real tender. I would have no qualms ordering this again, but I'd definitely explore other items on their menu. Having been here a few times already I can give this place a fitting thumbs up for quality of food and choice. The menu is Asian fusion at its best blending Asian food to match the desires of current food trends. The cafe frequently offers new and exciting options that are an instagramers dream. The waffle series they offer will get lots of attention and even the cups are cute. The service is friendly and they do there best to seat you as quickly as possible. The Coffee is almost at the background but they offer a complete coffee experience allowing you to literally tailor it to your likeing in terms of body and flavour. I have been here a few times and have always really enjoyed what I have ordered. My friends however haven't always loved it so I guess it isn't for everyone. It is a great place for brunch and coffee and the staff are all really friendly. It does get pretty busy so plan on a bit of a wait at peak times. I loved the soba (or they may have been buckwheat) noodles with mushrooms in an earl grey broth. The mushrooms were some of the best I have ever had. Place has indoor and outdoor tables located opposite the central station tracks. Ordered the Potato Latkes with bacon and poached eggs $15.50. Very light meal but still filling. With my cappuccino i also received some dried raisins to add if i wanted. To be honest it was a first for me having dried fruit in my coffee but it went well. Trendy place right opposite the southern concourse entrance to the central train station. Limited sidewalk seating available and there was no seating available in the cafe and an active waitlist so I got my coffee and pastry to go. The takeaway menu was limited but from what I saw while waiting for my cappuccino there might be a larger offering available for those who eat in. Some interesting offerings on the takeaway menu like a Hong Kong waffle but when I asked about it the server could not provide much detail on what it was. I went with a gluten free polenta slice from the display which was quite good. It came with blueberries. There was also a gluten free brownie on offer which I didn't try because they were all out. Will definitely try to come back and have a sit down meal the next time I find myself outside central station and in need of coffee or a full breakfast. Let me start with the good. Coffee is great. Food is very nice (I tried the croissant with eggs, mushrooms and home-made bacon). Now, the bad. I arrived at 7.30 and the place was pretty empty. It took 10 minutes to get my coffee and 45 minutes to get a croissant with eggs! I had to ask about my order a couple times to get it going. When the order came, they have forgotten the bacon. Then, their pricing make no sense. I choose a croissant because I would not get a $10 breakfast and have to add $5 extra for avocado and $6 extra for bacon. They still got 4-Stars as the food and coffee were very good and maybe the delays were a one-time problem. Many of your coffee choices are served with a little dish of something to represent or contrast with the flavour of the beans in your coffee - eg. a dish with some almonds. They sell beans for home coffee makers, and some gadgets like a grinder, scales or Aeropress. One time when I bought some beans for my home espresso machine I was given an additional sample of a different roast to try. They can tailor the coffee with extra or less of the aroma, acidity, sweetness, body etc. They also sell a single origin pour over cold brew as well specialty teas and juices. It is also known for its egg waffle series with kimchi, Mochi, ice cream etc. We were going a heathy option so ordered the smashed eggs, a huge dish of two pieces of sourdough bread with a kale and sunflower seed pesto, avocado and two eggs topped with sliced a house pickles radish and carrot which made it taste really fresh. Eggs were runny like they should be and it was a really nice dish. Also got a latte which was smooth and had beautiful latte art - top barista. Hubby also got a macchiato. I came here for lunch with my new work mates. Menu is Asian Fusion, with some weird and wonderful combos. I choose the black rice congee, which was served with fried dough for dipping into the congee and a side of tofu stuffed mushrooms. A couple of others ordered the fried chicken with sweat potato and quinoa salad, and one ordered the barramundi burger topped with pineapple, fried vermicelli and salad. All the dishes were presented with precision and care and looked and tasted awesome. Then we all made fun of the guy that ordered the not very adventurous ham and cheese melt, but he said it was also delicious. I also tried a 'perfume' drink, which smelt and tasted divine. Haven located just across Central Station's Chalmers Street exit is a relatively new cafe. The menu contains classics but also fusion Asian-Western food. They seem to be a coffee specialist with most of the menu dedicated to drinks. I drink coffee everyday on weekdays so I did not try their customisable coffees on this visit. GENMAICHA TEA CHICKEN BURGER $16.5 Just hated it because of the cabbage. The cabbage texture should of given the burger some much needed crunch, but it was soggy and the bitter taste of the cabbage took over the burger. After removing the bitter cabbage, the genmaicha tea sauce was actually tasty; a creamy sauce that would be more fitted for pasta. That's where the positives end. The chicken was tough and some spots even dry. POTATO LATKES $16.5 The next dish was a total flop. Bland. Everything was bland. Even when eating all the elements with piece a of bacon, it was still lackluster. The potato latkes (aka potato cakes) were too thin and unseasoned, it was boiled in oil rather than fried as it had no crunchy bits. One of the eggs was overcooked. Beware of the Surcharge! Surcharges are not the norm in Surry Hills and I was caught out by the 10% "fine" that was in the fine print. The service was quick and efficient but even much better cafes do not charge a Sunday surcharge. The hot chocolate was majorly disappointing. Super cute cafe near Central Station in Surry Hills. I went here on a Groupon breakfast deal (2 mains and drinks for $25!). The restaurant was packed when I arrived at about 9:45am which looked very promising. I had heard really good things from a workmate about their coffee and approach whereby you can customise almost anything with their coffee from acidity to coffee:water ratio, to the aroma. However, without knowing what I like about my coffee yet and no introduction by the waiter to the ways in which the coffee could be customised it was hard to make those decisions about my coffee especially prior to having a coffee so I ended up sticking to the usual flat white. The coffee was definitely good. My companion had a chai tea that came out with a cute timer to let you know when to pour it out. However, the food was a different story. We waited for a very long time for our food watching tables that came in after us get their food before us. I had the potato latkes with bacon. The latkes were thin and crispy but a little too greasy for my liking. There was a generous amount of bacon and two poached eggs which were a little undercooked and left me concerned. By the time we left at 11am the place was half empty which made me think that the majority of their customers, like us, were Groupon users restricted to 8am to 10am hours. read more

Coming from San Francisco I have a pretty high bar for coffee. Haven can easily compete for the best coffee I have had. The presentation and tasting notes were spot on, and the coffee quality was top notch. I would highly recommend Haven for any coffee lover. The food was also quite tasty.
