The school is very relaxed and the professors care about your education. Since the school is small you get to know everyone and make great friends in classes and with the library ladies. The school is great because your credits can automatically transfer to any other school within the University of Hawai'i (UH) system. I am now attending UH Mānoa and I am glad that I completed my first two years in my hometown at Pālamanui. This school saved lots of money and greatly helped me get more involved in the community, environment, and Hawaiian culture. I highly recommend this school to anyone, especially the local students!

They release propaganda films and don't give accreditation for what they say they will. They shame people for not experiencing miracles of healing, they encourage cutting off family members and openly sharing trauma upon arrival. They treat certain leaders like royalty, while outcasting those who question their teaching. They are constantly emphasizing the need to be "slain in the spirit" and speak in tongues. I came into school a Christian who wanted to spend her life on the mission field. Now I want nothing to do with organized religion. They forced fasting, during COVID locked 10 students in small bunkbed dorm rooms for 2 weeks with only access to cafeteria food that was so bad, most of the students had lost a significant amount of weight by the end of quarantine. They sleep deprive you filling every waking hour with work or sermons or worship. They put new members in leadership over each other in foreign countries with little to no training. The students are hated in the local Kailua Kona area as they are known for defacing historical sacred landmarks as "demonic" and telling the homeless that god will perform miracles and shaming their "lack of faith" if nothing happens. Don't waste your time or money. So many students I knew came home after only to relapse because of the loneliness and disconnection. I know at least 3 students that returned after school to commit suicide after, and I only was involved with Ywam for 2 years.

They're not legally accredited at all. They scam peoples money. I was locked in a room and forced to fast until we raised all the money. We did not agree to fast and pray. I have hypoglycemia and I had a seizure and almost died, instead of getting me medical help they started to pray the demon inside me away who was causing the seizure.. so wack. They refused me medical help until the money was raised. I gave 1k bc I wanted to go go the ER. I'd like my money back. My friend jumped off the go center building trying to suicide because they made her feel like an outcast. My other friend who was disabled they shamed her and sent her home because they said due to her disability she was not fit to serve the kingdom of God. Our outreach leader molested one of the women, no punishment was given. They worship Loren Cunningham and Cary him into meetings on a chair that they make indigenous people carry. They disrespect native Hawaiian culture. They ruin the environment. They lie to students. They tell students "no one will understand what your going through" "no one back home will understand the burden of the mission it's best not to talk to anyone about it." They use cult practices and cult psychological tactics to get the students to come back and serve after DTS. All through DTS it's drilled into you that no one understands except them. They encourage separation of family, like they say things all through DTS so when you go home you just feel empty and manipulated and then you come back serving because you miss your "ywam family" because "no one understands" on top of that the misappropriation of funds is crazy. The FBI is investigating them for fraud and money laundering. DTS leader spent all our funds and we had to sleep on the floor in churches overseas and ask our families for more money to get home. I regret ever doing a DTS here and ever serving as a staff member for so many years. Do not send your children here. It's a cult. Five and a half years I've waited to write my review for the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. That's…read morefive and a half years worth of studying, writing papers, and working on nightmarish group projects. I guess it was worth it. I do have a fancy little paper to show for it now. Hopefully I'll be able to add a fancy job in the near future as well! In any case, I've spent a lot of time at UHH over the past few years. Though it wasn't always easy, I can most assuredly say that I've come out a much higher quality individual. Going into it, I had an admittedly strong aversion to studying and work. Thankfully UHH is a relatively forgiving system as far as general education courses go, which were basically all that I took for my first year and a half. What really allowed me to mature and get it together was when I switched majors from biology to computer science. Entering into the computer science program was somewhat of a rude awakening for me. First off, there was a lot more math than I'd ever envisioned putting myself through previously. Secondly, the CS department was not quite as forgiving as the others I'd taken classes from. Being that I was in too deep to change majors again, I was forced to buckle down and work hard in the computer science program. The classes were rigorous and the material was by no means a cakewalk. The phrase "trial by fire" does a pretty good job of summing up a good bit of its courses. I can't really speak on the experience in other majors, but getting through the CS department was very transformative for me. I can honestly say that I feel sufficiently equipped to enter into the work force now as a software engineer. Here are a few other noteworthy things about UHH (good things first): There are very small class sizes for the most part, especially in upper division courses. It makes for better relationships with both fellow students and your professors, among other things. The professors and staff are generally pretty helpful. This ties in a bit to the class size thing. Being that you'll tend to have a better relationship with your professors, they of course are more likely to do you a solid when you need it (within reason). Parking is relatively cheap in comparison to other universities. Of course, if you're from Hilo you'll probably think that having to pay for parking in the first place is kind of outrageous. It's not too bad nonetheless. There is a tiered parking system in which you pay $60 a year for red zone (closer to campus) passes and $25 a year for general zone (a bit farther but still close) passes. The prices are reduced a bit for single-semester purchases. There are a cafeteria and fitness center on campus. I didn't ever use either of them, but I've heard the food is good and facilities are nice! The tuition here is probably one of the best in the entire country as far as bang for your buck. My main gripe with the school is that it's basically impossible to graduate on time if you don't follow your major's four-year plan from the very beginning of your college career. There are a plethora of things that contribute to this, but most stem from the fact that it's a small school. To that point, though, you should know that when you're going in. Overall, I feel like I got a good education and am equipped to handle whatever situation I may encounter in the work-force.

At when its dark out it seen a scary and confusing to navigate there are maps of the campus but you in a rush they can been confusing. That said luckily there amply parking and security take there job seriously and are helpful. Higher Education is so important in Maui and this success really is tied to the success of the community as a whole so i'm a fan.
