It was great, but It's dead now - Closed. The owners gave over 90+ artist 30 days to get out... Complete lack of consideration.

I was a tenant here. Out of the blue, they raised my rent in the middle of the month RETROACTIVELY... I called BS. To no avail. Forced to pay or charged a late fee... Upset at them I moved out 3 months later, having paid the raised rent for 2 of those months, but old rent for 1... Of course they take the bogus additional charge from my deposit for that 1... Now they won't even answer emails... They do not respect the tenant. One issue and you will see. You are interchangeable. The art is pretty, but take a peek behind the curtain and you won't like it. read more

I'm not a new artist but I've always worked out of my house. This year it was time to make a change and, after looking around for a while, Hawthorne Arts Complex was my only choice. It was brand new when I signed up - it's a good value (I didn't have to share space with someone else to get a good value) and the other artists there that I have come in since I started are great! The landlord has always been right on top of everything and is super friendly and welcoming as well so I have no complaints!! read more

I unfortunately had a bad experience with them where they used my art studio as storage for furniture while they knew I was away and ruined some of my work. They also neglected to take responsibility for having someone in my studio to move all this furniture and items that were not mine in there during covid-- when they were supposed to respect social distancing and our health in there. A guy that works there kept saying I had asked for a huge armoire thing to be put in my studio when I never had. He kept insisting I had but I had never asked for that. Watch out for him. They tried to make it look like I was trying to take advantage of "their small business" by asking for my security deposit back. They never got back to me about the damage to my work. I had a feeling they did not want to take responsibility anyway. They went into my studio, moved things, placed a ton of furniture and items in there without my permission and said that they were going to hold me accountable for it when I told them what they did was wrong. Unbelievable. They of course kept the money. If they are willing to pull these kinds of things with me, they can do it to others. I have had many studios in many cities over the decade and I have never had someone treat me, my studio, my work, and my trust like that. I have photos of what they did and sent it to them but to no avail. I don't recommend this place. This happened in late 2020. They still run place. read more

I checked this place out recently and it looks to be about the best value for the money in the area. I'm going to look around a little more but I'll probably end up renting there. read more
