Most of the time, the bathrooms are absolutely disgusting. My toddler lets her clothes hit the floor and we have to change her completely because someone else's urine is all over the floor. The toilet seats have poop on them, even the door handle is questionable. Why am I giving 4 stars? The staff!! No matter the time of day or the amount of people, they are always so nice! They interact with my kids and make jokes, always smiling and offering to help. It's funny because I have watched the same person interact with a truck driver who doesn't want to be bothered and they tone down the smiles and jokes. I'd stop here for gas and definitely stop here for some snacks, but go down the street to use the bathroom.

One machine was seemingly out of gas and would not dispense anything even after accepting payment. Sadly this was the one my colleague tried first. A third machine was not accepting payment on one side and had an out of service bag on the pump handle on the other side. Luckily, the last machine accepted payment and pumped gas very slowly. When stopping in Hawthorne for gas, I'd recommend going to a different station to avoid the hassle.

But once you're inside you'll be glad for the break since service is warm and friendly, food selection is decent and the gifts are interesting. Just as we were preparing to leave the owner came and told us we could not leave the van there, he didn't want us using one of his parking spaces.
