I'm writing this review purely for selfish reasons. I want to encourage Tom to run more wine hikes in Adelaide! Initially I thought wine and hiking in Adelaide go together about as well as running the City to Bay with beer stops along the way instead of Gatorade. But I am a convert. Not only that I am now a raving fan. Tom from Head in the Clouds wines has taken this concept from his passion for hiking and wine and smooshed it together like a good grape crush. You start at "base camp" over the first wine tasting for the morning and proceed to not only hike a summit but stop and drink different SA wines and varietals from some of Tom's favourites along the way. Everyone is encouraged to bring some snacks for sharing along the way and the whole 3 hours turns into one big progressive wine tasting. This is such a refreshingly unique concept which showcases wine, SA's landscapes and naturally creates a bond between you and those walking with you. Our tour did go overtime by an hour or so, so it was a long day and you will want to allow time to take it all in. You will also want to have a fairly good level of fitness to enjoy something like this as the hikes (although short) were steep, but it did leave us with a spectacular view over Adelaide that you wouldn't otherwise get. This was the first of (hopefully) many tours, all I have to do now is try and convince Tom to host more over Summer and Autumn. Feel free to join in my petitioning! read more

My second wine hike with Tom leading and Ashley supporting yesterday featured Adelaide Hills wines as we hiked through Waite Institute and the hills beyond. Another outstanding day delightfully enjoyed by all - generally superb wines to taste (there was one only which was best described as "interesting"), scrumptious picnic foods and snacks, fabulous scenery and a lovely group of interested and like minded devotees of life's simple pleasures. Head in the Cloud Wine Hikes are so special - Tom is an energetic, enthusiastic and slightly hyper winemaker/curator who loves wine and hiking. Do yourself a favour and get on board for the next one or two - even better drag some out-of-towners along and dare to reveal another of Adelaide's truly wonderful hidden gems. read more

Until recently, I had never heard of, let alone attended, a Wine Hike! Wine tours, yes, but wine AND exercise?? I had to find out more! And I have to say it is BRILLIANT! You really have to try this, it leaves your ordinary "wine tours" far behind. Experiencing gorgeous views of Adelaide, getting out into nature and learning about hiking trails (with no pressure to be "fast"), while leisurely sipping wines in the company of the fellas who make them. And then a deliciously decadent shared lunch with new friends to top it off... What an amazing way to spend your Sunday! Thankyou Tom and Ashley for a fantastic treat. I have been singing your praises to everyone, and I can't wait for the next one! read more

I completely agree with Katrina and Chloe and can't wait to do my next wine walk - bring it on. Tom was a most informative host / tour leader and fun and thoughtful to add to the mix that created a most enchanting event. The wines that Tom had carefully selected for the event gave the opportunity to taste high quality wines from emerging boutique wineries / wine makers and just when I thought I had decided on my favourite wine of the day an even better or more interesting wine was offered for tasting. Tom is to be thanked and congratulated for organising a perfect day. read more
