The owner had three customers in the store, including myself, with about 15 minutes left until close. He helped everyone out and still had time to suggest several fishing spots in the area. I picked up a few flies I didn't really need, but helping the local shops is important. I also found out he sells online too so I'll keep him in mind when I need something. Last thing he said was, "stop in next time your in the area and I can tell you where the fish are biting!" Thank you!!!

A nice lake to visit in the Sierra Foothills during the off seasons…read more It's a spacious reservoir with three campgrounds around it, as well as mountain bike, equestrian, and hiking trails. There are also multiple day use areas, disc golf courses, and more than one boat launch, which makes it a popular fishing lake. Overall, it's a popular recreation spot. I recommend visiting between Fall and Early Spring to avoid the blistering heat in the area.

Tagged along since I knew some people who were familiar with the area, but we didn't have any luck at all catching anything. Views of the Full Moon and water were nice, though. Fishing-wise, probably not a good experience as it was my first attempt at Striper fishing and others weren't too experienced, either. Maybe next time around, have to do some research for the proper fishing techniques. Definitely different than River fishing, which is my preference living in WA State.

Reasonably priced per night, spots are not huge but they're big enough for two tents for sure. Every site had a table and a fire pit. The spots are up the hill so you have to walk down to the water, but it's fairly easy to get there. There are showers you can use, but you need to buy tokens at the store or the little machine next to the showers. Bathrooms are throughout including porter potties. Everyone was nice, for lake camping definitely fun. Place is a little run down, but still in pretty good shape. We've been here multiple times and enjoy it every time.

This is a roadside snow play area off Highway 4 about a couple miles pass the town of Dorrington…read more If you are heading east on Hwy 4 it will be on your left. There is a wide area for parking and it is where the Dorrington-National Forest sign is located. We tried to get a snow park permit for $5 at SNAC in Arnold but they were closed Christmas Day--duh! You can always get one in advance online. Our family was on our way to Spicer Sno-Park on Christmas Day when it began to snow heavily as we passed the town of Dorrington. My parents were getting a little nervous about being stranded in the snow-- saying we should probably turn around, but we didn't want to let the kids down so we kept pushing forward. A couple miles after passing Camp Connell, we see a line of parked cars on the left side of the highway with a bunch of sledders going downhill. There were about 12 cars parked and many more cars pulled up after we did. I was surprised to see a few families traveling from the bay area. Thinking that my snow paranoid parents would not want to go half an hour more in elevation, we decided to stop and just let the kiddies play in this area. I am very glad we did as it was an awesome area for snow play. It is a wide area and the hill is pretty high enough to get some fun sledding action. Adults and children alike were screaming with glee. This is about one and half hour drive from the Central Valley so it is quite closer than Tahoe. Although it isn't as picturesque or gorgeous as Tahoe, it is a convenient location for snow play. There was NO TRAFFIC on the highway and the road and conditions were not as treacherous. AND it is not as busy and congested as Tahoe. Perfect for kiddies..
