After reading many of Lox's reviews, this seems to be a common occurrence. I've been getting my hair cut regularly for decades and have never, ever had a stylist tell me "sorry, you'll have to come back" because of THEIR inability to manage a schedule.

I went to The Strand to Dottie Thornley for numerous haircuts prior to this experience. I enjoyed chatting with her, and I felt that she always did a nice job of cutting my hair. I have short, fine hair styled in a pixie cut. I wanted to try something new and asked about extensions. I admitted that I knew nothing about them, and asked her opinion if a pixie cut to a bob was possible. I showed her a picture, and she said - sure. No problem. I was charged $922.83. This included the hair, labor, hair cut and style, bottles of shampoo and conditioner, a used hair brush, gratuity and extra toner that she told me to apply to my roots of my hair for 10 minutes at home because my hair was "ashy." She applied the extensions to the sides and the back of my head, not to the top as I thought she would. I expressed immediate concerns about the result, and she told me the hair would lay flat and look better after washing it the next morning at home. I tried to keep an open mind, and did my usual wash and dry the following morning. It was a mullet. When I told her I was being called Garth/Joe Dirt by my friends (what can I say, they have a sense of humor), she said I could come in and she would take some length off before she left for vacation, which she did. It wasn't as mullet-like, but it still felt awful. My head looked like a doll's head of hair with clumps of hair poking out. The extensions became increasingly painful. I couldn't sleep because it hurt to put my head on a pillow with all the glue quills poking my head and the tension on my scalp. It felt like 120 overly tight, tiny pony tails on the back and sides of my head. I asked her about removing them when I went in for the mullet corrective cut, but she said she didn't recommend removing them. They hurt so badly that my husband and I cut each piece out. Now, I have 100+ tiny bald spots on my head. She offered to give me haircut credits on future haircuts to help me. She also said she doesn't offer refunds, and has mentioned something about signing receipts implies customer agreement to her no refund policy. She has also mentioned she keeps her costs low to help people. That is my hair extension experience from my perspective.

Longer story: I was about to shave my head I was so frustrated with my hair. I am super low maintenance and only cut my hair occasionally - often it's only when I get to this point. A few people had recommended this salon, and specifically Seth, to me. So on the day that I finally had time, energy, and motivation to go get it cut, I rolled out of bed and booked the soonest available spot for that day - which ended up being with Seth. I was ambivalent about what to do with my hair and was honest about how low of a priority it was to me on a day to day basis. I explained the options I had been considering and what I was and wasn't willing to do with my hair on a daily/weekly basis. He gave insightful feedback and helped me settle on a blunt cut bob. He started conservative in the length and adjusted the cut to get where I wanted it, and finished by styling it. This salon categorizes and prices the cuts as "short scissor", "medium scissor", and "long scissor" cuts. If you're like me and know nothing about hair and salon language, it refers to the length your hair is when you arrive. For me, I went from a long scissor cut to a medium. I appreciate this because they don't distinguish between genders for price - you are charged for the services you receive.

Katie, a firecracker of a good time, was so happy to have us in her Salon, she was welcoming and accommodating. Anna Marie, who handles the events, was respectful, polite, and so easy to communicate with! For the hair of the bride, 2 maids of honor, and a grooms lady, we had Demetria, she was hilarious and so talented! She was happy to make adjustments and was so creative! For make-up, of the bride, myself, and Mother of the bride, we had Lauren who is so incredibly talented and a joy to be around. She knew just how to make us look our best! I can honestly say our hair and make up has never looked better than when we left the salon, which is all a bride can hope for on her wedding day. Katie did hair for the mother of the bride and for the mother of the groom, which turned out amazing. They were so happy and confident with their dos! Another bonus to the Salon, was that everyone was welcome to come hang out with the bridal party, which was so helpful and important to my sister, the bride. We hung out on the porch and in the sitting room until we were allowed into the Jordan Springs bridal room to get dressed. This alleviated so much of the potential wedding day stress! Feb 19 I booked using their online booking system, which requires half payment for services, I paid $40. The appointment was for March 21. On Feb 21 (one month before my scheduled appointment) I realized I had a time conflict and immediately called the salon- no one answered or returned my voicemail. So also on Feb 21st I attempted to use their online booking system to change my appointment date. The system would not change the appointment date unless I paid an additional $40. I'm not paying $80 (total price of haircut) in advance of service. When I tried to back out of the online booking system it just cancelled the original appointment. I received an email confirmation of appointment cancellation the same day. On Feb 26th I emailed The Natural Mane about this issue. Though I was already irritated I really wanted to support a local business. I explained the issue, said I would still like an appointment but if they couldn't help me then I would like a refund immediately. The only response I received was, "Sorry, for the hold up on the appointment, the one you booked and canceled, has been deleted from your account. As for your next appointment, you will need to go in and schedule it on line. This system works great, and I'm sorry you are having challenges." Why in the world would I give someone more money when they have already proved to be untrustworthy & have the worst customer service/communication? On Feb 28th I was forced to file a dispute with my bank. Today is March 28th and this business still has not responded to my bank. Obviously I do not recommend this salon for anything!
