I've been going to this salon for a couple of years and really love my stylist. I'd recently got my second COVID shot and I was really looking forward to going again. I asked about masks requirements and I was told that they cannot make customers wear masks and it's up to my stylist. Problem is that if I'm there wearing a mask, I could be around people who aren't. Also, private businesses can in fact require masks in their premises. So, sadly, I'm going elsewhere. I found a salon that is farther from me but where masks are required and they observe social distancing. Too bad. I won't risk my health for a haircut. read more

I went to Illusions salon to have my hair highlighted. They were extremely friendly, and I explained what I wanted exactly wanted done to my hair. I had Martha who was very professional and told me what she thought was going to be beneficial to what I wanted. She did an outstanding job, and I fully recommend this salon. read more

I have been here twice, once for a dye job and once for styling. The person who styled my hair did an amazing job and was super great. When I had my hair dyed, a different person did it and miserably failed. I wanted to go from dark blonde to light brown, but instead I ended up with some dark brown color. I asked to speak to the manager or owner and was given a phone number to call. None of the times I called were answered and none of my voicemails helped. Tried going back to the salon twice but each time I was told the owner wouldn't be available. Customer service here was pathetic. read more

Worst salon I've ever went to. I got a horrible choppy haircut, my hair is screwed and all uneven. I have before and after picture . All I want is a refund you should not have to pay for a haircut that is so bad. I left my name for the owner to call she never called me back so I called her. She hung the phone up on me . This place is a absolute sham. I called back and she wont even talk to me. She went furthermore to tell me she would file a harrassment claim against me.There is some good hairdressers there but there is alot of bad hair dressers to. They wont justify the situation. My hair is what makes me me and I am so emotionally distressed about this.Please do not go here unless you are 100% sure they can do what u want. My hair is dark with bleached ombré, I asked for her to make it ashy gray and she did... but it washed out in 3 days! When asked for it to be redone, she was going to charge me again! Will not be a returning customer. read more

I held off writing a review for a while but, after seeing reviews so similar to my experience, I decided to share. My service was back in March. Initially I went to have my highlights touched up and add some more blonde. It was decided that balayage was the route to go. Initially, being so blonde was a bit of a shock. I'd thought I'd have more dimension than I did. But I figured I'd get used to it. Then, upon washing it and styling it myself for the first time, I noticed some major imperfections, like unblended sections, inconsistencies in the tone, and a spot on the side that looked like maybe a foil had bled. Right away, I told my stylist and she offered to have me come in and she'd fix it by adding some lowlights to break up the blonde, and highlights to blend the previously mentioned sections more. I even had her take length off just to get rid of some of the super blonde and unblended ends. The end result was better. But after about a week, these imperfections and inconsistencies still bothered me, so I contacted the stylist once again and asked to have it colored back to my natural color. She told me that the owner had told her she had to charge me full price but, just wanting everything covered, I agreed. The day I went in, we discussed filling my hair first since it was so bleached, then doing a medium cool brown, which is what I wanted. But, instead of using a typical red filler, which would cancel out any green tones in an ashy base, it was colored first with an ash tone and when that turned out green and still too light, she went over it again. The end result was ok though, so I paid and left. Fast forward a few weeks, and my hair had faded so much that my highlights were visible again, as were all the imperfections, and the tone was brassy. This time I contacted the Facebook page in hopes of speaking directly to my owner. When I got a response, I was asked for photos, which I gladly provided. After that I didn't hear anything. I gave it a day or two and tried contacting again. Nothing. Then I got a message from the stylist. Long story short, I never heard from management at all, and was given excuses by anyone else from the salon I tried talking to. I would say customer service was awful, but there was NO customer service. I'm now left with color I still hate, I've had to take a ton of length off, and I'm having to use drying toning products to try and banish the brass. I really loved my stylist but I can't go to a salon like this, knowing that any issue I ever have will be ignored and no one will take accountability for anything. read more

I went to Illusions in Inwood to have my hair done. I showed the stylist a photo of what I wanted. The photo I showed her was a photo of MY hair. I could tell my hair was bad as soon as I left the washing station. While my hair was wet it was obvious it was NOT what I asked for. I expressed this to her. She was visibly irritated and called the owner. The owner and two other females came in. All pointing the finger at me for not telling the hairdresser what I wanted. I showed her a photo. How much clearer could I have been? She stated the book said a highlight. I am sorry but I'm not the one that writes in the book. After getting upset, tears and all.... they offered to fix it at that moment. I could not do it that moment because I had prior important obligations and needed to leave town. They told me to pay and come back Monday and they would fix it. I asked are you sure she is comfortable fixing it because instead of her talking to me about it, she immediately just called the owner. They stated yes, it's not a problem. I paid a total of $145 to Illusions. I did tip $30 because I thought " ok, relax... they are going to fix it. This morning, at 9am I go to Illusions to have my hair fixed. I was met at the door by two girls. The two that were with the owner the day they said they would fix it. They would not let me in. They stated they changed their minds. That my hair looked fine. It looked better than it did when I walked in the door. And that they recommend I go elsewhere. I tried reasoning with them. Asked for a refund. Was laughed at and told that I needed to seek psychiatric help. That no one could do my hair the way I wanted. I then flipped out because I was and still am very upset. They started recording me and I left. I wish I would have read the other "not recommended" Yelp reviews before going there! Below are images of what they did to my hair. The ends were SO FRIED , I hate to cut my hair. One image ( the one that looks good ) is the photo I showed them as a guide to what I wanted. The images speak for themselves. I didn't want to have to leave a bad review, but sadly did not have any other choice as my attempts to speak with the owner did not work. I've been a long-time client here at Illusions, on Saturday 5/18 I came in for a color service with my usual stylist. The result wasn't great so I came back for a color correction on Friday 5/24 with my stylist, who was more than happy to fix the blending/choppy/and bad coloring. I came back on Saturday 5/25 to speak with the owner because I was still not happy with how the blending in the front looked. After attempting a root melt (their words not mine) with too dark a brown (see photos) the stylist attempted to remove all of the color with a color remover and went back in with a different color using foils. All of this was done to the very front of my hair and along my hairline around my face. So the majority of my head remained highlighted with blonde but the front was almost black. The end result was my hair looking like crap. I was told by the stylist that the owner, who would not come out from the back of the salon, that there wasn't anything else they could do that day and I should make another appointment to come back. I tried to speak with the owner that day, but like I mentioned, she wouldn't come out from the back. I've attempted to speak with the owner by leaving messages on Facebook, calling the salon and leaving messages with the girls who answered, and voicemails when the phone wasn't answered. I went to another salon to have my hair fixed and ended up having to have length removed because of all the processing that was done left my hair fried and dead. Its funny how you can post a negative review and its taken down immediately, but at 1230am! You get a long derogatory text from the stylist that has been totally unprofessional, and did a really crappy job coloring your hair and blames it on everything but looking at a picture and saying sure no problem but you look nothing like the picture when shes done! when you end up with green, orange , brown , light purple, dark purple, and blonde we have a problem. When she cant stand by her work and refund you, i am sorry but thats extreme unprofessionalism. I came to her work twice looking for her. Once she hid out back. She gave me crystal as her boss, crystal was even nastier and said shannon was an independent contractor. So i guess nothing more to do but take her, crystal, illusions to court for compensation so someone else can fix her screw up. Master color specialist --- not hardly even a good color hair person. So go there at your own risk. Dont say nobody warned you! Any business that has all good reviews cant be trusted. I went to the Martinsburg location. This was my second time and the first time I had a great stylist and had a great experience... although this time was completely different!!! The stylist I had before cut her hours and could not get me on her schedule so I called and got an appointment with someone I didn't know... she was not professional ( took two smoke breaks, lunch and cut someone else while I was in her chair). She also kept saying I had a lot of hair and she only used the best products... My hair is only to my shoulders and very thin. I also did not ask her to use more expensive products. I am a single mom and only had what the last stylist charged to pay her. As the cost are posted on the window, I thought I definitely had enough money. After four hours of sitting in her chair I was finally done... I was not impressed with my highlights nor my cut. But there was a baby shower going on so didn't want to cause a scene. Then she told me the cost... $210!!!!!! For a highlight and cut of shoulder length hair!!!! I couldn't believe it but again they where in the middle of a baby shower so I paid it and left. I contacted the company by messenger and told them how unsatisfied I was they said the cost depends on the time and use of product...
