UPDATE: After 4 years, Doctors, 2 horrid times on prednisone, physical therapy, and giving up, living with pain, finding Healing Touch and going for a couple of months, I played Racqetball with my husband for a whole hour with NO PAIN and only normal work out soreness the next day. Melody rules!!!! This wonderful place was homey and focused more on putting your money towards what heals you than wasting money on expensive decor. It was clean and happy with relaxing music playing. Leilei (Lily?) was my therapist for a 60 minute session that cost $65. It was worth every dollar and I'm going back next week. She knows exactly what she is doing. She found the sources of my issues and worked on those rather than just my symptoms. The pain could be rather intense but it was tolerable and totally worth it because I'm feeling wonderful. Let's put it this way, after a year of a lot of tests, prednisone (and it's lovely side effects), sharp pain, stiffness, lack of mobility, constant throbbing pain, and suggestions of surgery when physical therapy didn't totally resolve my issue after 6 weeks of twice weekly 40 minute visits (surprise surprise- even my PT said I needed at least 3 months INTENSE physical therapy)....I'm sitting here writing this pain free. My fingers aren't asleep, my neck doesn't hurt, my shoulder isn't aching with shooting pain, my wrist (which ALWAYS HURTS) is NOT hurting at ALL. I know that one visit isn't going to correct what has taken years to build, but I am more than willing to pay the money it takes to see these professionals when the result is NO PAIN for the first time in 7 months. A customer in a nearby room however was very chatty and her massage therapist made no attempt to subdue their conversation; in fact both of them talked very loudly the entire time. We booked a couple's massage, which on the website is depicted with a photo of a couple lying side by side getting massages. Turns out, we were put into separate rooms, so there was no reason to have booked this other than to be able to drive over together. Additionally, the place was noisy. The spaces are separated by flimsy partitions, rather than being actual rooms. Halfway through our massages, a man arrived for his appointment. The door jangled noisily. He started talking and never stopped, even as he was being worked on. We had to listen to his entire conversation with his massage therapist for the next half hour or so. Our massages were with Aliceia and Nataliia, and they were both very competent. So we were happy with the body work, but wouldn't come back based on the atmosphere. If they ever move to a nicer space with more privacy, we'd certainly reconsider. Finally, we were charged a fee to use a credit card, which was a surprise. We went in last night for a scheduled couple's massage. Our intentions were to share this experience together, as this was not the case when we arrived. We were summoned to separate rooms with a curtain clipped together. There was also a flimsy curtain at the main door of the room. We had zero interaction with each other the entire experience. My boyfriend had purchased a gift card on Valentine's Day and I had planned on buying his to accompany mine. This simple issue turned into a world a of unnecessary complications. I requested my boyfriend have my giftcard as it had an enclosed extra 10 minutes of services. I specifically dictated that he would like those 10 minutes to be focused on his feet as they were the main point of interest for pain. Over 20 minutes of our massage included Melody(my therapist) speaking to his therapist trying to work out arrangements for her to work the extra 10 minutes on him instead of me. Then, she stopped my massage to even go look for my gift card and see exactly what was included or what he had paid for. They spoke about money, asked what we were negotiated or told about the couple massage about price, etc during my massage. Definitely stressful and not something you want to even think about. If you plan on paying with credit card, they charge you a $2+ fee to even use it. This was not described anywhere. In fact, it says no fee will be charged for cash or check, yet another sign in their office says you can't even use a check if you're a new client! While getting our massage, his therapist answered her phone three times and was speaking to someone in Chinese and left him in the room once to speak with them. Mine left me in the room twice. Once to get heated pillow and once to get gift card and talk about it. I have two screws in my ankle and am pregnant. While she gave wonderful attention to my pregnancy needs by placing me on my sides rather than my stomach, she barely placed any pressure on my lower back, the place that needed it the most nor my ankle. I left feeling as though I haven't received any services at all. For a full body massage. She never even touched his feet at all. We had just went and got pedicures and they did more there at the nail salon than this place even attempted. That was the one specific need he requested as he has Plantar Fasciitis. When we went to actually pay, he had already tipped $10 on his gift-card purchase. When I went to pay for the additional, I tipped $5 on my part. This was a $15 tip for both ladies. Melody clearly had an issue with that and asked me 4 times if I was only tipping $5. I felt that was more than sufficient for the lack of services received and as if I wasn't stressed enough from them atmosphere and her speaking the ENTIRE time, they were only worried about money, not the customer's experience. I've been fighting a headache for almost two weeks. The Dr prescribed (diagnosed a /cluster headaches) a total of four different medications; However, the meds only reduced the pain to a low simmer. My normal masseuse couldn't fit me in on my way home yesterday and the thought of that headache igniting back into full flame was scary. I asked 'Siri' to navigate me to the nearest masseuse and they were able to fit me in without waiting too long. Lily was amazing. I felt 85% better by the time I left. I never even realized how tight the muscles were in my neck and upper shoulders. I was able to lie down without the pillow hurting my head and slept all night without the headache waking me up. I am returning tomorrow for Lily to work her magic. I was very impressed with the results. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The place is clean and the staff (I've only meet Lily) were knowledgeable in this practice. I had a fantastic experience. I will be visiting on a weekly basis (if not more). read more

A couple of months ago, I first visited Healing Touch Body Work, looking for relief for my painful, tight right shoulder. I have been working with Lily to fix it. Lily may be the best massage therapist I've ever had. She seems to have radar fingers that allow her to flush out every hidden knot I have. For my shoulder, she's worked patiently and methodically, over the course of several weeks, to restore it to normal functioning. We are almost done, too. I think she's undone tension that seemingly had built for years, and restored a range of comfortable motion that I only dimly remember. The other therapist I've worked with is Melody, who also runs the place. I saw her initially, and she is every bit as good as Lily. Both are very sweet, and I can't recommend them too highly. They both also offer cupping, if you are interested in that treatment. The shop itself is cute and comfortable, and conveniently located. I first went to Melody several months ago when I had a terrible headache. I was driving down Greenville Ave. and saw her sign and decided to stop in, hoping someone could do something about the pain. She only had about 20 minutes before a customer but she agreed to take me for as long as she had and in that short time, the debilitating migraine was gone and it stayed gone. Since that time, I have scheduled an hour with Melody once a month. I had probably spent close to $500 in the previous year to a chiropractor for severe neck and shoulder blade pain that caused numbness in my hand. Once I started going to Melody, the pain went away and stayed away and I no longer need the chiropractor. Certainly what she gives is a good massage, but she also is intuitive about the body and unlike the massage places where the massages are almost like scripts where all areas are covered equally in time and sides of the body, Melody hones in on the problem areas and gives deep, deep massage that gives lasting relief. Does it hurt sometimes? Yes it does - but when the muscles are like taut cords like mine were, that's the price you pay but the feeling in your body when she finishes is incredible. It's almost like therapeutic physical therapy. This 58 year old body feels 20 years younger. One last plug - Melody is very familiar with other forms of Chinese medicine and has given me valuable information on how to treat other ailments. Over the winter I suffered with terrible bronchitis and had gone through 3 rounds of different antibiotics, including Z-Packs. Nothing touched it. The remedy she told me how to make was immediate and the bronchitis was gone in 12 hours. My family was amazed. And my daughter broke her hand and was having a terrible time with the pain and healing. Melody was able to give us a liquid that Megan rubbed on her hand and it managed her pain and her Xray 2 weeks later showed more healing in that time than in the 4 weeks prior. I really can't say enough. I've received massages at nationally reknowned spas like the Greenbriar and Coolfont in Berkeley Springs and Chica on the beaches of the Florida Keys that cost twice as much and aren't nearly as good or as lasting in their effects. Also, I have had some massages from some of Melody's other workers and they are just as good. Highly recommended. I love this place. Melody is a talented healer, and I get the best massages here that I've ever gotten. Melody uses a holistic approach to body work that uses a combination of techniques from swedish, acupressure, qi gong tuina, and hot stone massage to create a therapeutic experience customized to your needs. She focuses on finding the source of your muscular tension (not just the side-effects), and also takes the time to tell you about ways you can employ preventative techniques on your own. After a 90 minute massage focusing on chronic neck/shoulder pain and headaches, I feel better than I have in 6 months. While other local spas always seem to be looking for the up-sell and charging you extra for everything, the prices here are very reasonable. Also, it has the added bonus of being one of the few massage therapy places in the area that is open by appointment on Sundays. Update -- it has been almost a year since I have been getting massages here, and the massages are still great. My husband and I went for a couple's massage while visiting Staunton last weekend. The front of the building was very unassuming, but the quality of the service made up for any lack of appearance. The way they have the room set up, the couple's massage was in two different areas, but we were still connected in a room, so I was fine with that. I had Martin and he was wonderful. I have had back problems for many years and he was able to find all of my painful spots without me having to mention them. He gave me some tips for stretching as well. He made sure that the pressure was always the level I wanted and was able to give more firm pressure to my sore areas than other massage therapist's have in the past. It was the best massage I have ever had! They are working on the facility, so I think once that improves this will be a stellar place with reasonable prices. read more
