Brooke's Place for Grieving Young People is an Indianapolis non-profit organization that provides…read moresupport groups, therapy services, and community education to empower children, teens, young adults, and families to help them thrive in the midst of grief. "Because 1 in 7 children will experience the death of a parent, sibling or close loved one by the time they are 20, Brooke's Place works to create a community where every young person living with grief feels safe, supported and understood during their personal grief journey." Brooke's Place is built on the following principles: 1) Grief is a natural reaction to the death of a loved one for young people as well as adults 2) Within each individual is the natural capacity to heal oneself 3) The duration and intensity of grief are unique for each individual 4) Caring and acceptance assist in the healing process 5) Our caring programs provide hope, help and healing by giving individuals a safe place to grieve. Brooke's Place was founded by a local therapist as a response to the 1994 crash of American Eagle Flight #4184 in Roselawn, Indiana. One of the individuals killed in the crash was Thomas Wright and this therapist watched as his children, 13-year-old Brooke and Brent, a college senior. It became apparent that a place for children to grieve was needed. In 1998, Brooke's Place was born. I worked in the counseling field right about the time Brooke's Place was founded and had a couple friends who volunteered with their support groups. Eventually, I would go through their support group training myself as I was volunteering for a non-profit that dealt with families who'd lost a baby. The training was simply outstanding. To this day, I have friends who continue to volunteer for Brooke's Place. Programs include the grief support groups, therapy services, education/training, BP8 (an 8-week program offering outreach grief support), and Camp Healing Tree - a camp for youth ages 7-17 who've experienced the death of someone close to them. Brooke's Place continues to grow each year, though certainly it has been impacted by the pandemic. However, they've creatively worked toward continuing their supports and they continue to do remarkable work for the children and youth in Central Indiana.

When I called her asking for clarification, she attacked me stating that I contacted her too many times while I was in crisis and that she cannot handle this anymore. Then she released a diagnosis she never discussed or even mentioned to me to another provider which calumniated the situation. For two years after termination, I suffered from PTSD symptoms as well as guilt because I thought that I was responsible for what happened. I tried to contact her to get clarification about my diagnosis or what happened, yet she never responded. It is not till I started seeing another provider did I came to know that what happened was not my fault and understand the extent of the damage she caused me. Despite all that I decided to try and put that horrible experience behind me and try to move on, yet she made that impossible as she decided to file a restraining order against me claiming that her life is in danger. I had to hire a lawyer to defend myself which is a great burden given my limited financial means. The case is still pending a hearing. Update: I lost the case, Dr. Sanders asked me in court to waive my rights and I did thinking that she will never disclose information I shared with her in private. Yet she not only did that, she also stated the information in a way to serve her purpose. I could not say anything against her in Court. It was really hard seeing her, I was unable to say anything against her in open court. I appealed without a lawyer and lost. Everything was taken out of context to make me look bad. I am still fighting to prove my innocence, yet I do not have much hope. Wish me luck!!
