Ethos Athletics is a newer gym and fitness center in Burlington. It's located in the brick building…read moreacross from the City Market South End on Flynn Ave. The gym is a clean, no-frills gym, which is conducive for a focused workout. There isn't a weight room per se; you work with different instructors and trainers and use the weights, TRX, cables, punching bags, etc. available. There are numerous group fitness classes for all interests from times ranging as early as 7am to 7pm: TRX, TRX Strong, TRX Bootcamp, TRX Express, H.I.T.T., F.I.T., Strength and Conditioning, Total Body ABC (Arms, Butt, Core), Box Fit, HIITBox, CoreBox, Total Body Circuit Training, ETHOS Bootcamp, Yoga. There are also certified massage therapists on site that do various massage modalities and therapies, including the Grafton Technique, trigger-point therapy, Swedish, and cupping. I've taken several classes with Anna Bohen Judge. Anna Bohen Judge is a yoga, TRX fitness instructor, and personal trainer that is one of several instructors at Ethos. I've attended her TRX and yoga and even had some personal training from her. Anna is extremely patient and kind, offering help with form and making modifications for those with physical limitations. Her TRX class is pretty awesome, using Tabatas in H.I.T.T. format as part of the program. Her restorative yoga class takes away stress and any aches and pains. I also went to massage therapist Joy Snow for help with my chronic shoulder issue and arm. She not only worked out the issue, but also explained to me why it may have happened and exercises to do in order to prevent it in the future. Ethos offers an excellent array of classes and services. There are several different membership offerings, plus punch cards that are highly reasonable. I highly recommend this gym for your fitness needs.

High energy exercises combined with strength-training for core muscles challenged members of the class (each at their level), which worked for all of us. Stephanie has a marvelous sense of humor and inspired all of us to keep laughing and enjoying her ever-constant pace , both at the barre and on the mat. The class was full and welcoming to newcomers, which was reassuring. I was impressed with both the professionalism and down -to -earth quality of Stephanie whose humility and kindness went far in conducting a great class. Bravó, Stephanie ! Unfortunately, the office wasn't willing to discuss or consider a Vergennes-only membership, necessitating a monthly fee which includes the Middlebury location as well. I'm sure the Middlebury location is great but for a Vergennes/Ferrisburgh resident, it would be nice to get a gym visit in without having to cross like four town lines. It's a missed opportunity to not provide this service.

Align Cycling just opened up in June after being in the Burlington area and being previously known…read moreas REV. They've expanded their mission and now offer both fitness and cycling classes at their studio. I took a fitness class this week, which was an hour long, and what I loved about it is that they focused on mobility, posture and form while lifting, and core strength. We spent the first 15 minutes warming up, stretching, and rolling out our muscles. I love that it was focused on form and mobility, unlike other fitness classes I've taken. I also took a spin class here and their spin studio is huge and beautiful! It had so many bikes! They also use headsets for their spin studio, which I had never used before. You can adjust the volume for your personal headset and listen to the music as loud as you like. This was so appreciated because I always have to use earplugs at other studios because the music is so loud. The bikes also have baskets for regular sneakers OR you can turn over the pedals and clip in with spin shoes, I've never seen that before, it's so cool! You can rent spin shoes here for $3. A couple things to note: they don't offer a free class for your first time in the studio, and most studios I've been to offer a free class to explore the studio and see if you're interested in their space. I'm curious if this will change as they become more established. They have class packs for their fit classes, and class packs for their spin classes, but they don't have combined class packs unless you get their unlimited studio pass, which I was a little bummed about because I had wanted to try both. I just purchased a day pass for each class - the fitness class drop in is $24 for an hour long class, and the spin class drop in is $22 for a 45 minute class. They also don't provide towels for their classes, which would be a nice addition. Most spin studios I've gone to provide towels for their guests. The studio is beautiful and clean, and all of the equipment looks brand new. I'm excited to see this place grow as they continue to make adjustments and become established in the community!

I've been coming here for over a year and absolutely love it. I had never taken martial arts…read morebefore, so I was a little nervous about whether or not I would feel comfortable. Martial Way is such a welcoming, inclusive, and genuinely fun place to learn martial arts. I feel empowered through all the practical self-defense techniques I'm learning, and I always look forward to coming to the mat.

My partner and I both train in different martial arts…read more(karate and capoeira) and are visiting friends in Burlington who train with Sensei Dave at Martial Way. We asked if we could attend class with them, and Sensei was incredibly welcoming to us. The class was wonderful, really informative with a great mix of techniques as well as flow from one exercise to the next. We would love to come back and would definitely recommend Martial Way to anyone looking to try martial arts, whether experienced or brand new to it.

The instructor was very friendly and everyone was pleasant and welcoming. I felt right at home. The instructor paid close attention to me, to be sure I was doing the moves properly and safe. I will come back if I'm ever in the area. I highly recommend this place
