My husband and I had a wonderful experience working with Alana Corrin through Healthy Mamas, Healthy Babies. First, learning about the services and speaking with Amber was great. She is highly organized and very responsive. I also loved the online mom support groups with different topics covered each week - these were so helpful! For the doula services, Alana was wonderful. She is very laid back and easy to talk to while also being super knowledgable and attentive. I wasn't sure if I was going to try to have a natural birth or get an epidural and I felt like Alana was ready to support me no matter what option I wound up choosing. Also, my husband tends to be very anxious around any medical or hospital setting so we weren't sure if he would be able to be with me for all of labor and delivery. Our meeting before birth was great because Alana was able to listen to his concerns and talk him through what L&D would be like so he wouldn't be so nervous. We only wound up being able to have one pre-birth meeting because my baby decided to show up 6.5 weeks early! Thankfully, Alana was able to meet us at the hospital within an hour of my husband calling her (around 3am??). My labor proceeded very quickly and we were both overwhelmed because we had not anticipated having our baby that early. Alana remained a calm and consistent presence throughout my labor and for a while after delivery after they took my baby to the NICU. She was also able to ask the nurses and doctors questions we had completely forgotten to ask and kept us up to date with everything that was happening. My husband wound up being able to stay for most of L&D and I think a lot of that has to do with Alana being there - we both felt fully supported the entire time. We had three post-partum sessions with Alana and they were also incredibly helpful. I would definitely recommend her to others and would love to work with her again if we wind up having another baby (hopefully closer to my due date next time, hehe)! read more

Ok, I gave 4 stars to highlight the comment. I'm honestly not sure what the right number of stars is. We consulted and ended up NOT hiring her (we had 1 video appointment). She seems to know things well, no concerns there, but we were a bit put off by the very commercial set up, ie, the initial consultation had a charge while all the other doulas were ok to do a free into over video. Then we got cut off because the initial intro appointment was so time limited (I think it was 15 minutes if I recall). Her regular emails are helpful, but we ended up not hiring her just because it seemed so money driven (her prices are on the high end, which looking at the reviews does seem to be somewhat justified). read more

Amber was my doula at my first delivery. She is the best! She has really calm and supportive energies which are amazing through this process where there are a lot of doubts and fears. I felt safe and in control throughout my whole experience (pregnancy, birth, postpartum). I gave birth at a hospital but I labored at home which was a really nice setup for me. We were extremely lucky to have Amber as apprentice midwife during the pregnancy and birth of our daughter. She has a comprehensive knowledge of nutrition, yoga, and health that was a big help to me because it had been 8 years since my last pregnancy and I had forgotten everything! Amber has a gentle, comforting touch and a calm, confident demeanor, but most importantly she's a master of being present yet not intrusive during birth. If you've ever given birth before, you know how essential this skill is in a birth worker: a drink is offered when you need it, a hand is there to push on your back when the contraction comes, a cloth is put on your forehead when you start to feel hot. She's there for you, anticipating your needs and supporting you, but she's not breaking in to your "laborland" concentration. She's holding the space for you to do what you need to do. Immediately postpartum she was invaluable. I had water, I had my tincture, I had food, the baby and I were covered and warm. Even if you have a midwife and birth partner there, they're taking care of the baby in the immediate aftermath of the birth (as they should be!), Amber was there to make sure I had everything I needed. I felt so out of it that there's no way I could have asked for those things, but she knew what I needed before I did every time. We had a somewhat stressful postpartum period and Amber made it much, much easier. She had great tips that, even though I'm on baby #3, I had never heard before. She also came by to do extra weight checks for our daughter and was a big reassurance to us that she was gaining weight and everything was going fine. Amber is an asset to any birth team and I'm so glad she was part of ours. We will definitely work with her again. read more

When my partner and I interviewed other doulas and Amber, her attention to detail stood out. There are a few things that I think sets Amber apart. I received abhyanga oil massages from Amber as a treatment for PMS symptoms and for deep relaxation and stress support. Amber holds a strong but calm presence during the sessions and is very knowledgeable about what she does. The issue that I was having prior to receiving treatment was intense menstrual cramps, and the abhyanga treatments from Amber a few days before my monthly cycle helped my body to relax so that my nervous system wouldn't go into the usual pain response. She also used essential oils specifically for pain management and relaxation. Another issue that I was having was that I was so stressed that even when I had time to rest or sleep, I often couldn't fall asleep. For one of the sessions when I was especially tired, Amber came to my home, and at the end of the session I was so relaxed that I fell asleep for two hours. It was such a healing experience. Back again, this time regarding Amber's postpartum doula help. My family hired her immediately following the birth of my little one, and we were so grateful to have her. As a first-time mama who had just gone through the most intense moment of my life, Amber provided me with both the physical nourishments of Ayurvedic meals and healing massages, and also the emotional support I dearly needed. I of course was and am madly in love and in awe of my little baby, but the combined sleep deprivation, painful physical recovery, dramatic life shift, and powerful hormones can be overwhelming. Working with Amber was truly a pleasure. I sought out her support for the first six weeks after the birth of my second child to ensure a smooth postpartum period. I'm so thankful that we found Amber as our doula for the birth of our first babe...I literally couldn't have had the birth I hoped for if it wasn't for her! Here are a few reasons why: Pre-birth: Amber met with us multiple times before our baby's due date, in person, at our home...other doulas I interviewed offered only one or two pre-birth meetings, some of them virtual. The additional meeting or two made a world of difference because, when labor began, I felt like I was calling a trusted friend (at 4 am, lol) for advice, not some semi-stranger. During those meetings, Amber encouraged us to think about and talk through some very real, and not always easy, topics before babe's birth so that we could be more mentally and emotionally prepared for what we were about to go through. Labor day: HOLY CRAP, there is no way to really prepare for what labor actually feels like. Even now, thanks to the power of our minds to quickly forget pain, I know that my memory is a faint shadow of what I actually went through. Because my water broke, we decided to head to the hospital sooner than we planned, and labored there. Amber was a tremendous source of support and calm throughout the whole day. She encouraged my husband and I to try some things on our own to speed up labor, which gave us (what i realize now) our last couple of hours alone together! Then, when it was "go time" she provided just the support I needed. Whether it was verbal reassurance, massage, or a laugh...honestly could not have done it without her. Also...PICTURES!!! This was something I didn't even consider before our babe was born, but honestly looking back, this was worth the whole fee :) -- She took candid photos and videos (with our prior consent, obviously) during labor and the moments after our daughter was born. I have forever footage of my husband and me meeting our daughter for the first time, seconds after she was born. I well up with tears every time I watch this amazing video, and look at the other amazing shots she got, and am so thankful for this unexpected gift that we'll treasure forever! Post-partum: We had some feeding issues in our first couple of weeks. Amber gave us some great tips for increasing supply and helping both of us figure breastfeeding out. She also came over to check on us and gave us a little break a couple weeks out - we got to relive our labor story, and she got to see how the little one was growing. It was a special way to get closure for such a life-changing event. I'd highly recommend Amber for your doula needs! And she gently turned my focus from the intense, demanding, emotional and physically challenging reality of being a first time mom of a newborn, to recovering and healing my body and mind. After having a challenging and disempowering experience during the birth of my first child that ended in an unplanned c-section after 27 hours of labor, I decided I needed a doula for my second birth. I met Katelyn and immediately knew she was right for us-- she was centered, confident in VBACs, and made me feel strong and capable. She guided me through preparing my body and mind for birth throughout my pregnancy. At 36 weeks I was surprised to hear my baby was breech, and I feared my hopes for a VBAC were gone. She supported me in navigating the version process and, with the support of an incredible acupuncturist recommended by Katelyn, the version was successful. I was induced at 41 weeks, again fearing my dreams of a VBAC were gone, but Katelyn again supported my navigation of this process. Throughout labor her support was truly exceptional, she calmed all my anxieties, helped me center on my body, and buffered and supported me in communication with hospital staff (who were also great!). After 24 hours of labor and 3 hours of pushing, my little one entered the world through a healthy, safe VBAC. I truly would not have been able to deliver VBAC without Katelyns support, and feel endlessly grateful to have had her. I took Amber's prenatal yoga class for 6 months during my pregnancy. She has a very gentle teaching style and I welcomed that during the progression of pregnancy symptoms. I had a lot of swelling in my legs during the pregnancy, and Amber always offered suggestions and modified postures to accommodate how I was feeling that day. I don't think I would have continued as long with the yoga if it wasn't for Amber. She has a very nurturing, calm personality that immediately puts you at ease.
