We feel so incredibly lucky to have had Marilou as our postpartum night doula. I ended up needing to be induced earlier than expected, so we had to arrange support at the very last minute. I was honestly pretty anxious going into it because we didn't have the opportunity to interview or even speak with her beforehand, and we were simply going off her profile that was shared with us. But from the moment she arrived, she immediately put us at ease. She was with us for those first few nights home from the hospital, when I was exhausted, emotional, and very newly postpartum. She had such a warm, gentle, and calming presence, and having her there made those overwhelming first nights feel so much more manageable. She was incredibly sweet and attentive with our baby, but she was equally caring toward me, always checking in and offering thoughtful tips for both newborn care and taking care of myself during recovery. She helped with feeds, baby laundry, and washing and assembling bottles and pump parts, and was always punctual, dependable, and proactive. Most importantly, we felt completely comfortable having her care for our brand new baby during such a vulnerable time. Our only regret is that we didn't find her sooner! Because everything came together so last minute, she was only available to be with us for a few nights, and we absolutely would have loved to have had her for longer. We're so grateful she was there when we needed her and would wholeheartedly recommend her to any family looking for a kind, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring postpartum doula. She started right on the day after delivery while we were still at the hospital. She also referred us to an amazing lactation consultant who was an absolute game changer. Mary Ann was meticulous about everything baby-related and followed best practices in every detail. Her logging and tracking were incredibly thorough, giving us complete peace of mind. She was professional, respectful, organized, and kept everything spotless. The greatest gift she gave our family was rest. There were moments when it almost felt unreal how much recovery time my partner and I were able to get because we trusted her completely. She would even bring me a glass of iced water wherever I was--a small act of kindness that made a huge difference in my recovery. Because she took care of so much, I was able to focus on postpartum healing and even carve out time for simple self-care, like getting a haircut. Although her primary responsibility was caring for our newborn, she also formed a wonderful bond with our toddler and always made him feel included. I reached out to find a birth doula and the initial meeting giving an overview of how they work was clear and straightforward. Doulas through this company are employees (not independent providers) and they stress that this is really good for always having a backup. We were then matched with 2 doula candidates and the scheduling process was easy and professional. However, we ultimately felt that these candidates were not properly trained or vetted. We never received any materials such as CVs for the doulas. The first doula said right away that she had never been a birth doula before and we would be her first birth. Her only experience was that she had been a night doula before. I was shocked that she had never even shadowed another birth doula as part of her training as a company employee. Bless her heart for being honest, but I did not want to pay to be her guinea pig. After this, I requested an additional candidate, but I was told the other one should be great. The second doula was also not a good fit. She kept emphasizing that at previous births hospital staff did not believe she was a birth doula (and thought she was just a family friend). It became clear why. I asked about her qualifications and she said she's working on her bachelor's degree even though she already has a master's degree. I thought this was strange and asked some follow up questions and ultimately could not determine what degree she had (maybe an associate's degree) or didn't have (definitely did not already have a master's). I also asked some basic medical questions about pain control and epidurals and she was not able to answer them. Ultimately we were able to find a wonderful birth doula through another matching company - experienced and with a real master's degree (in public health). read more

My husband I are so grateful we found Marilou at fairly last min notice, she brought such a wonderful, calming energy to our house to help with our 6 week old. Our daughter immediately took to Lu, as did our toddler, who loved to stop in to the nursery and say hi. Marilou helped us figure out bath time, feeding, and tummy issues, all with a super gentle approach that put both me and the baby at ease. From the very beginning, she was an absolute lifesaver. Having a night doula was a game changer for those first postpartum weeks! We contacted DBB a little late in our pregnancy but they were quick to find us options and line up interviews. Once we signed with a doula, she ended up going on medical leave, but DBB was able to find us backup options right away. Our doula, Yumi, was amazing with our son and such a great help to us a few nights a week. When we had some issues getting reimbursed through our employer's Carrot benefits, DBB helped us rectify the situation. We really appreciate their follow-up and customer service. As a first time parents with a complicated birth history, an extremely small family, a terminally ill mother, and both working full time up until the birth--the best advice we received after we learned we were pregnant was "get a doula." After doing research I found Doulas by the Bay (DBB) and it was truly a match made in heaven - compassionate, efficient, dedicated and comforting care provided through every single employee and doula we worked with. Because of our lack of family and sisterhood, we really leaned on DBB to help match us with doulas who were first and foremost professional but felt like cousins and aunts - genuinely invested in our confidence and comfort. We are so grateful and indebted to have been able to be introduced to wonderful doulas who helped us throughout our difficult pregnancy and complicated delivery. We knew after meeting Mish, our birth doula, she was going to be integral to our journey. Mish being so even keel, kind, nonjudgemental and compassionate was exactly the disposition and approach we so greatly needed and wanted after a lot of ongoing trauma in our family. We deeply appreciated her advice from everything to health care concerns to milk storage to baby bottles. We were so gratified to have been so well prepared by Mish prior to the upcoming due date about what we could expect in the hospital as well as all induction methods. She listened to every concern, question and fear we had with patience and able to set us both at ease. She was in contact with us and extremely knowledgeable with gestational diabetes/hypertension. We are so grateful for how well prepared we were because of Mish and the confidence she helped us create. DBB was able to pivot quickly and problem solve on our behalf when we had a completely unexpected change in our induction schedule from 1 week before our due date to 3 weeks early. DBB placed in Marilou's care and both DBB and Marilou was in touch with us every single day even in the early or late hours while we at the hospital and even through active labor. It was such a relief to have Marilou's help as a night doula after coming home and the additional support she provided through tips, tricks and advice she would pass onto me. Marilou was so gentle with all of us and had a very calming, maternal presence. Our second night doula, Hellen was so cheery, jovial and very gentle. She was very sweet with our baby and did whatever she could to help us out overnight so we could try to restore our energy for the next day. Hellen was so consistent, reliable and made us feel at ease. She was just such a happy presence and we are so grateful for her help as we needed to catch our breath again despite getting better as new parents. We knew we had struck gold with Angelika as a day doula. As cheesy as it sounds it was almost an instantaneous connection at the interview where we quickly learned we had a LOT in common. We were so fortunate to work with her and found she slid right into our lives effortlessly. She is so wise beyond her years, so incredibly good natured and sweet. We deeply appreciate how thorough and attentive she is to our baby's changes and development - offering gentle support and advice which we deeply appreciate as we continue to learn about parenthood and our baby. Angelika is very communicative and knowledgeable, nonjudgemental and makes an effort to adopt the preferences of the family while also using her wealth of experience. Shibban was our doula for 4 weeks. She is punctual and reliable. She would give me round up of the night and how the baby did. I love how observant and attentive she was to the baby. Her tips with baby care were really helpful. She would stay awake through the night which was great! She also helped with chores like washing bottle, pumping equipment and laundry. Our family had a wonderful experience with our two post-partum night Doulas, Stellah and Marilou. They provided us with so many tips and tricks on how to take care of our new baby. We knew that our baby was in great hands and we could tell they both had a lot of experience with newborns. They helped us with breastfeeding, soothing, feeding, changing the baby, looking out for rashes, and telling us what was normal and what things we should keep an eye on. The classes are online, certified just electronically. The training is not flexible. My experience with Doulas By the Bay was overall ok. I would recommend to improve dynamics to keep class interesting, at least hands on examples how to take care of belly bottom, take baths, etc. How to help mama with postpartum C section...how to take action in case of emergencies. Is not worth the whole Class price. I think information is missing from what I have learn in other companies. read more

The interview process was a little stressful because we looked into a doula just a couple months ahead of our due date vs 6 months or more, so there was a limited pool of doulas to meet. We were blessed though to work with Malou who was flexible with our needs and schedule. She was great with taking care of our LO with baths, feeding and just making him feel loved. She was helpful around the home as well, she helped with laundry and cleaning; offered to cook but we like to do that ourselves. My favorite was the massage she gave me every visit to help me recharge and relax. We have a 4 year old and she helped us juggle the 2 during the day. read more

I had the most wonderful experience working with Doulas by the Bay for my postpartum needs. I was fortunate to work with several wonderful night doulas, namely Brenda for our first few weeks, and Chris for the next 8 weeks. Not only did having a full night of sleep help us show up and be better parents for our newborn son, but they both gave us really wonderful guidance and advice as he grew through the period. They were so loving to our son and helpful to my husband and I as first time parents. They also kept fantastic track of his feeding and diaper events so we could pick up where they left off the next day. We also were so fortunate to have been able to work with a day doula, Isabella, who taught us a ton about everything from how to deal with gassy baby to lactation issues, ways to soothe our newborn son, and how to heal a postpartum body. She made sure my husband and I had time to reconnect with one another and rest when we needed it. She's also an awesome chef :) As part of our Doula's by the Bay service, I also felt so fortunate to have worked with their lactation consultant Brandi who provided me a judgement free zone with which to address certain lactation and feeding issues we were working through. I'm looking forward to working with her again to develop a plan as I'm heading back to work.
