Sliced has plenty of out door seating and in door seating, but, due to Corona (Covid19) the in door seating can't be used at the moment. Sliced offer delivery and take-away also, which is also great. The pizza also was very tasty and is a thin base so you aren't going to feel overfull when leaving. Everything was great except for one thing, our seating. We were sitting near the window and the tables and chairs were very cramped together, I had to squeeze into my seat as not to be bumping the guy sitting behind me. My girlfriend was the same on the opposite side of the table, and neither of us are large people. Saying this though, I drove passed the restaurant a few days ago and they chairs seem to be more spread out now, so I'm not sure was it just a lunchtime thing to fit more chairs in or what happened. I'd defiantly still recommend trying their food.

When I arrived at The Plaza Bistro, I wanted breakfast, but I thought I'd have to settle for lunch. Lo' and behold, breakfast was available! And in that brief moment, the sun shone through the rain and all was right in the world. :-D Okay, so it wasn't exactly like that, but I was really hungry! I ordered the jumbo Irish breakfast (no beans) and wasn't disappointed. The egg was soft and the sausages had a little char. Their toast was really good, too, and I seldom would write about toast! One of the best parts of my breakfast, was that they serve filter coffee! Oh, how I miss good ol' filter coffee. They only give one free refill, but I can live with that. The atmosphere reminds me of a diner. They even have one of those refrigerated cases with desserts on display. Nothing like diner desserts, but still... They also have a salad bar. The Irish version, not the US version, if you're American. The Plaza lacks cleanliness, even though the staff seemed to be constantly sweeping. The staff are very friendly and attentive. I'd return for breakfast if I'm in the area again and I'd recommend it for the food.

FISH AT BALLINCOLLIG MARKET Made a quick visit to the…read moreBallincollig Farmer's Market last Wednesday and met the fish selling ladies from West Cork, Mary and Sheila. I had forgotten I called them lively in an earlier post, maybe my spell checker changed it from lovely. We had a chat about fish and how the fashions are changing. You hardly ever see whiting nowadays while the now popular monkfish were once thrown back overboard. Like me, they enjoy their meals out and we all agreed that Over the Moon in Skibbereen is top class and they also had a good word to say for the Wine Cellars restaurant in the town. They were surprised that the gurnard dish, that we enjoyed recently at the Silk Purse, was so expensive (€23.15). While we were chatting, they were filleting some fresh hake for me and the charge was a very reasonable €11.50 for five big fillets that were all thoroughly enjoyed at home that very evening. The girls, by the way, do a lively (that word again) business in the Skibbereen Market very Saturday morning and that was where I first saw them in action. And Swanton Plants, where I bought some herbs on Wednesday in Ballincollig, are also regulars in the West Cork town. On a previous visit to Ballincollig, I had a chat with Joy of Joy's Jams saying I preferred marmalade with peel.
