But . . . if you want some good program, great pastoral staff and a larger church setting, this may very well be the church for you! Worship in the sanctuary was excellent. The Keynote in the Fellowship Hall was well attended, and the breakout workshop rooms all had adequate space. Village, being a BIG church (some would say a church it's size is a micro denomination onto its self) has a chef on staff. The chef and kitchen staff fed our group well and the quality of food was excellent. I go to a lot of events at Village and they are engaged in the larger community as well as the life of Heartland Presbytery. The Grief Support Network holds it's monthly meetings and it's annual conference at Village. Village provides a relaxed environment (and good coffee that is always ready) and the tech facilities that are needed for small conferences and events. This is a church that I look to to provide for me spiritual support as a pastor that helps me do my ministry with my congregation in the community. Their Village University has brought in speakers like Marcus Borg and Tony Campolo. I am glad that Village's ministry touches it's members and the Presbytery and the larger community.

The church was very diverse, this is one of the most diverse churches I have ever attended. The singing and praise portion of the service was outstanding, and the message during the service was very good. The next time I visit Kansas City I will attend this church. I have been a member of less than 3 months. From the outset, the ministry seemed to be exactly what…read moreI wanted to feel at home. Everyone seemed friendly. That was until...I joined the choir. During one rehearsal, the head Director, had the choir to sing one song over and over again. This song wasn't even the song we were to sing the following Sunday. During this rehearsal, she arranged, rearranged and handpicked who she wanted in each group. The group of choir members then had to perform for the rest of the choir. She put the best voices in the first group, the medium voices in the 2nd group and the ones who struggled with singing in the 3rd group. I've sang professionally for years. The choir director didn't know this. She placed me in the first group then moved me to the third group and left me there. It was like she intentionally did that to cause me to feel some type of way. It worked. During this debacle, one person said he was stressed. Another member shared that she thought the first group was the best group. Not to mention when the first 2 groups sang, some of the choir members applauded yet they didn't for the 3rd group. Later, when questioned what was the purpose of the rehearsal, she said it was a team building exercise and she wanted everyone to feel apart. Those responses made absolutely no sense. She never explained to the choir what she was doing and we didn't rehearse for the upcoming Sunday. I was also harassed by some choir members. The director watched and did nothing. Because I didn't feel protected by leadership, I had to protect myself by videoing the bullying behavior. Once the Director saw that I was videoing, she immediately started yelling, "No recording. Do not record the rehearsal!" My question was "what didn't she want others to see?" I had scheduled a meeting with the pastor. After, I attempted to record the rehearsal, the meeting with the Pastor was cancelled with no explanation and no rescheduled appointment. Oftentimes, existing members treat new members very poorly...especially if they aren't apart of the in click or in group. I expected more from the people who said they were Christians. I expected more from Sheffield, a place who in the past had a stellar reputation. Its a new day!!! Churches cannot treat people poorly and expect them to follow in worship, give tithes/offerings or working in ministry where all hands on deck are needed. Christians now must FOR REAL walk the line of righteousness because everyone has cell phones now.

Raytown Christian Church is wonderful!…read more Before you attend, can check out the services online on their webpage. Or, watch the services live any Sunday morning at 9:00 and 10:30. The services are very meaningful and help us apply passages from the Bible to our daily lives. This church is an integral part of the Raytown and Eastern Kansas City Missouri. They are involved in so many projects that reach out to the community. Some call this church the "heartbeat" of the community. There are many friendly members who help make you feel welcome!

The pastor stays on topic and is easy to follow, usually has a 4 to 5 week series that discusses. The songs and scripture are projected to a large screen to help you follow along or you can use the hymnal or Bible. They have a food pantry and a summer lunch program. They provide other services throughout the year. They share the church with Power Shift, I have not been to this service. I think they start at 1:00pm. I think whichever service you would attend you would enjoy it.

Everyone seems involved and we have made friends rather easily. The pastor knows everyone and is a good preacher, lives his faith and teaches bible study. He is a great encourager of your faith and starting new ministries. He makes sure you are doing well within the congregation. His wife is a great asset to the church as well. The Church is beautiful with warm wood and nice stained glass windows. I liked the warmth of the congregation. After the service, we were immediately welcomed by several people. During the sharing of the peace, the priest made an effort to welcome most, if not all, of the congregants and after the service recognized that we were new to the community. He invited us to sign the guest book and to stay for coffee hour and to meet some of the congregants. Several people came up to us during coffee hour and introduced themselves and seemed to take a genuine interest in us as well. It was great meeting other people who relocated to Kansas City from other parts of the country. The coffee hour was held in the lobby and it was a bit crowded for the number of people, but all-in-all it seemed to work out OK. Music was emphasized during the service. Music was used to present the psalm as well as parts of the liturgy. The homily was delivered by a guest, so I'm not sure how it compares to what is typically delivered in this church. The guest was a self-described radical, liberal theologian. The service lasted just over an hour - we spent an hour and a half at the church, including the coffee hour. We're going to continue exploring the area, but I thought the Church of the Good Shepherd was a wonderful option.

Brian has been there from almost 10 years and from "the word on the street' has helped Parkville Presbyterian become a really healthy and vibrant community of faith!
