The other teachers, Marge and Sheryl, are kind and loving. My 3-yr-old son has blossomed there, and he only goes two mornings a week. The kids play, do lots of art and crafts, sing, have story time, are taught Christian virtues, and practice writing and phonics. They learn to follow directions, switch gears, and treat people with respect. They practice tracing letters and numbers. And most important, the kids have FUN. I now live in Napa and continue to drive 40 mins each way because I don't want to pull him out mid-year. I may continue to drive next year if I don't find another school that meets the Highlands standard. The new facilities are so nice--clean and spacious. And the teacher-student ratio is unbeatable. There are often only 8-10 students there with 2-3 teachers! I imagine enrollment will go up in 2011 with the shiny new, high-visibility location, but Teena is committed to maintaining an excellent ratio. I can't say enough--I am thrilled.

I am constantly bragging to everyone about how much we love her school and how much her teachers love her. (I am learning that this isn't everyone's experience and realizing just how lucky we are.) My daughter, at 3 years old, was able to write the entire alphabet, sound it out, and write all of her numbers within three months of going to Mila's - something we hadn't reviewed at home! Their curriculum is fantastic, and their approach to managing the kids is kind and respectful, while also being structured. She has never been able to nap without snuggling me, nursing, or in the car: she naps every day at school and now knows how to put herself down for a nap. They are really helpful with accidents and potty training so don't be afraid! They play in this really cool play structure in the back, they have fun field trips to the PD and FD. They do performances! We were invited to a Christmas celebration potluck where the kids performed English and Spanish songs and it was so sweet! They make some really cute art every day. They celebrate each other's birthdays. It is truly the sweetest little school. I've NEVER had a problem with my little girl not wanting to go to school because she has so much fun every day. The communication is incredible. They have a really great app where you can message the teachers throughout the day, they share photos, and check the kids in and out. They have a good system and are really organized. They speak Spanish to the kids, which is great. (I wish they only spoke in Spanish to help the kids become bilingual!) The teacher Liliana is incredible and my daughter LOVES her. We all do. Mila is also SO kind! We love all of the helpers as well! Long story: Little Star Preschool Too was my top choice from the beginning when I was touring preschools. I was delighted to see the campus (plenty of parking spots, quiet neighborhood, residential location and close to restaurants for afterschool pick up)! The preschool is large and has a huge yard for the children to play in during "recess" and at the end of the day. I think the actual amount of land they have for a school is impressive as the children are able to get their wiggles out without having to travel to a local park. While I was dazzled by the tour of the campus, I was absolutely amazed by the teachers and staff! They are all genuinely loving and greatly care about the well-being of the children! I am always greeted with a smile by each of the staff members during drop off. My child has so much fun playing with her peers and the large variety of toys, doing daily arts and crafts, eating their provided lunch and learning new subjects! She took a little bit of time to warm up to being in school and her teacher was so patient with her, spending extra time with her to help her transition. Other teachers and staff would step in to help out too if her teacher was not immediately available for help. Not only does the school teach "regular subjects" like letter recognition and counting, they also teach real life skills like what streetlights and stop signs are used for! (The school had a cute field trip around the neighborhood teaching the children about road safety). There are also a lot of extra features added to the curriculum to help enrich the children's education. There were dance performances, field trips, readings from books regarding different cultural festivals and traditions. The school is just so awesome and I am very happy with my choice. Thumbs up!

I appreciated that Little Star Preschool encouraged multiple playdate visits before he officially started, so that he could get used to the space and staff. All of the teachers were kind, patient, and gentle with him as he transitioned from a small daycare to preschool. They allowed him time to adjust and let him just observe at first, as he preferred, while holding onto his stuffy. Our children were given sugar almost everyday. We followed them on Facebook and saw that they were getting donuts, cookies, and sweets several times a week. We never signed a photo release waiver (even though they sent one home to us several times) and our kids were repeatedly posted on their Facebook page. Not okay, and so disrespectful. The kids were rewarded with otter pops if they napped. More sugar. We raise our kids to listen and respect their teachers, not do things because they will be rewarded with sugar. Our kids are potty trained. They were both sent home in their pull ups from nap on more occasions than I can count. Nap time starts at 12:30, and I would pick them up at 4/430. That's way too long to be in a pull up! One of my kids had a pull up so soiled it went through her pants. As if that's not enough, both our kids were sent home with dirty underwear. Fecal matter in their underwear several times. Our kids weren't being wiped thoroughly after having a bowel movement. I'll spare posting those photos, but I have several photos of all these events as I was starting to get very frustrated. There was one occasion where I picked my children up and one of them had peed their pants and the teacher had no idea. Lastly, I strongly felt one of my kids was mistreated and her self esteem was compromised due to the way she was treated behind closed doors. Over the weekends she's said things like " I don't want to go to yellow preschool. It's closed today" (yellow preschool being little angels). One time we were reading together and she stopped the book and said, "sorry is not enough". When I asked where she heard that she said yellow preschool. Who tells a 3 year old sorry is not enough, when they are trying to apologize? Nauseating. One of my kids said that miss Jessie yelled at her sister. Teachers are never suppose to yell at their students, ever. What does that teach the children? It makes me sick to think my kids were in that environment. I'm not one to leave negative Yelp reviews. Check my profile, I've literally only left 5 stars. My concern for children attending this school is what has lead to this post. I give it two stars. One for convenience as they got them in quick and they are located 3 minutes from our home. The other star is for Mrs. Jennifer who my children enjoyed most. They looked forward to attending her class on Fridays.
