Heartsong is amazing! It is so great for music and language development! The space the owner (Carey) has created is wonderful for playing before/after class and connecting with the other families. My son does several paid activity classes during the week (music, gym, dance, etc.) - this is by far the best value for your money. You'll get music, teachers who have studied the curriculum and Montessori education, movement, language development, and a beautiful space for play and community after class. My son started at 11 months and I wish we started earlier! For weeks he just sat in our laps and listened most of the class. He seemed like he wasn't super excited but he was actually just slowly absorbing everything! It's now been four months and he gets so excited every time he hears music he starts dancing and smiling! We listen to all the songs in the car and someties at home and he's started singing along to several words from different songs. He even remembers which words/sounds are coming next - it's so adorable to hear him in the back of the car singing! Heartsong has been great for language development too - an unexpected plus! My son started saying words with difficult sounds (e.g., "car") that we hadn't heard as a babble sound or really used often and we figured out it's because the "ca"/"ka" sound is used in several songs we're singing this semester. Neat! I love that Heartsong follows the Music Together curriculum which means you do the same set of about 25 songs over the 10-week "semester" and then move to a different set. This allows time for the kids to get used to the sound of a song over the semester. The songs have been developed to help with language development (lots of different sounds), music development, and even self-regulation (slower/faster). I love that the teachers offer insights on why certain things they do help with development. The in-class experience will vary by teacher. Keep that in mind if you decide to do demo classes first. read more

If I could give Heartstrong more than 5 stars I would! Music class has been the highlight of our week for the past three years. The teachers are AMAZING, so engaging, devoted and just all around great people. We love going to our weekly but also love that they offer flexible makeups if you miss a class. Meh. Not terrible. Not all that great, either. Results probably vary by instructor, but the class wasn't super engaging and we decided not to sign up here. The songs were boring and the instructor didn't really leave her spot the whole time other than to hand out and collect instruments. It felt more like watching a performance than an interactive class and that was disappointing. What made it worse was that we went to a Mi Casa es Tu Casa music class the weekend before and adored how engaging it was. It was like night and day. read more

Heartsong is great and they have a nice play area for the kids before and after class. I like bringing my son here each week. It's based on the Music Together program (https://www.musictogether.com - can find the songs on ITunes) It's ~$300 for 12 weeks, so ~$25/class. It's nice for them to see the same kids each week, but I'd like for them to have a weekly drop in class if you are not registered/ to play, get out of the house (we travel sometimes etc). Also, I know they have their structure of one "instrument" per semester (each semester they focus on 1 of the 9 instruments - bongos, bells, triangle, fiddle, drum tambourine, flute, sticks, maracas), but I thought it'd be nice if they introduced 1 new instrument each class - like had kids play with drums one week, sticks another etc. This past semester was Fiddle, and we sang pretty much the same songs every week (maybe 1 new one) and played with the same basket of instruments each week. Each week was "Hello, Everybody", "Here is the Beehive", "Sounds of Fall", "Goodbye, So Long, Farewell" A couple weeks we added "Ram Sam Sam", "Going to Boston" and "Sweet Potato", "Hena Ma Tov", and "No More Pie." They include a new song related to holidays, so we had some Thanksgiving songs. They also have Halloween events etc. They give you a CD in the beginning to play in the car and at home so child is used to songs each week. You dance with child on your lap or around the room, which is nice (a lot of the songs have hand/ leg movements). They have some cool props such as colorful scarves when you dance around the room and a colorful super long scrunchie the kids like passing around. "Helllloooo Everybody. We're so glad to see you!" We love Heartsong. We are a Heartsong family through and through. If you are considering a semester, here is my advice! Go to a demo class. Heck go to 3 demo classes! (like we did before committing). Heartsong is kinda pricey and you want to make sure it is something you and your baby will enjoy! Even though that first class is 0+ months, I truly do not think babies get too much out of it when they are suuuper tiny. We went to our first demo class when our daughter was 2 months old. We were given a free cd and boy did we play that thing like crazy. We knew she was a bit too young, but we started playing the music for her. If you have Spotify, look up "Music Together" playlist. Play that for your kiddo! You will learn the songs quickly and start to sing them too. At 4 months, we took her to another demo class. At this point, our daughter had 2 months of Heartsong songs and dancing in the car and in the home. She LOVED this demo class and it made me happy to see her connection to me during it too. At 6 months, we did our 3rd demo class. Picture your favorite band where you know all of their songs. Then you end up front row at their concert. Picture that excitement. That was my daughter at this demo class. That is how I knew she was ready for a semester. We signed up that very day. We are halfway through their Fall semester and it is the highlight of our week. It is so special for us to see our daughter's connection to music at such a young age. We have only had a handful of classes and she has already been introduced to so many different types of instruments, music styles, dancing etc. We take what we learn in class and incorporate it at home too. OK, we went to the demo class today and had an absolute ball. And what's better than that? The fact that my child slept for 2+ hours directly afterwards, starting on the short car ride on the way home. Yes. Wear my child out with fun. I like you people! My 3-month-old daughter and I just finished a semester of Music Together for Babies with Heartsong Music, and I felt the need to write a review. When we went to our first free demo class, she was only 5 weeks old. I knew she was too young to really get what was going on, but I selfishly signed us up for a semester anyway. I thought at the very least, I would have a way out of the house once a week. Music is important to me, and I want it to be important to her, so I figured I could sing with her in class and that alone would make me happy. What I didn't anticipate was how much she grew each week. She became increasingly aware of her surroundings. I firmly believe she learned how to distinguish my voice from the other adults in class. She would give me eye contact as I sang to her, and we established a bond. Back home, when she awoke in the middle of the night, I sang one of the signature songs to her, and she smiled at me the whole time. It was one of my most cherished moments of my little baby's life. Additionally, it was a safe place for us to go as I became more confident in my abilities to take my young baby out in public. With a room full of other parents and babies, no one judges you if your baby starts crying because inevitably, their baby will start crying at some point, too. Unfortunately, we are moving away from Austin and unable to take any future classes. But we have our CDs and the music burned to our computers, so we will continue to sing and dance with her. I am so happy I made the decision to take my baby to music class here. I am sure there were people who thought I was crazy to take a baby so small to music class and to spend the money I did on tuition, but I have absolutely no regrets. I believe, largely in part because of Heartsong Music, my daughter is advancing in her cognitive skills much more quickly than others her age. read more

Heartsong Music Together is an excellent way to introduce your baby, toddler or young child to music. Each week, Heartsong has dozens of classes (see website for schedules) facilitated by a guitar-playing music teacher. Classes have around 10-12 kids (plus parents, and sometimes visiting grandparents too), and for an hour, kids and adults sing, clap, whistle, hum, jump, dance, wiggle, and play all manner of percussion instruments. I love watching normally emotionally repressed Dads get forced by peer pressure to get up and dance around with their toddlers while waving colorful scarves and singing, "I'm a bell, hear me ring, pull my string and I will sing..." So charming. At the beginning of each seasonal session (spring, fall, etc.), each family gets 2 copies of a CD of all the songs that will be sung that session - one for car and one for home. The selection of music is really excellent - highly engaging, and selected to illustrate a wide variety of rhythms, scales, cultures, tonal patterns, and music styles (folk, blues, lullabies, etc.). I usually find music targeted at children to be rather annoying - not so with the Music Together selections. Both my kids and I have come to love many, many new songs by taking Music Together. Sometimes I play the CDs even when my kids aren't in the car. And I'm proud of it - so there. The music director of Heartsong is Carey Youngblood, a lovely person who just exudes warm-hearted enthusiasm and joy in teaching music. She is also one of the teachers, and I always try to get into her classes if I can since my kids got used to her and her teaching style. That's not to say the other teachers aren't excellent - Michelle, Carter, Abby - they are all wonderful and well trained. Highly recommended. read more

My 12 month old daughter loves coming here, and I do too! It has been so fun watching her come out of her shell and start participating in class over these past few months. We are in Becca's class and my daughter absolutely adores her. At 45 minutes, I was really worried the class would be too long to hold her attention, but the time really does fly by. They have a great play area out front for before and after class. Also, everything is super clean and they take great care to clean the instruments and toys that end up in the mouth. All of the other parents are great too and are very respectful about not bringing sick children to class. read more

My daughter and I love our Music Together class! I found out about it from an email after getting on their list, since I did some prenatal yoga here. We went to a free trial class and it looked good enough: kids her age in the babies class, the preschool concept of the classroom community in the circle, and the personalization of using each child's name in the hello song and the goodbye song. As an elementary school teacher, I see the merit in that. I did NOT expect these classes to become my favorite activity for my daughter and me, but they are. She absolutely loves the class, and picked up on the routines within a few weeks. Now, at eight months, she knows exactly what's about to happen when Vanessa gets the guitar or brings a basket of shakers to the group. The community of kids and parents is great, the teachers clearly love what they do, and my kid is free to crawl around the classroom before and after our class with other kids. And the music is good: it's more varied than I can provide with my extensive music collection. We will definitely sign up again next semester. read more

As a nervous first-time mom, I wanted to expose my newborn baby to music making and singing as early as possible. I researched for music classes in Austin and after reviewing studios on Yelp, I decided to do a demo at Heartsong. I immediately enrolled because I loved the class so much! My baby was 2 months old when we started, and she actually slept almost the entire class for the first weeks. We enrolled for 3 semesters (babies class 0-8mo at first, then mixed age 0-5yr) and had a fantastic experience. Why I recommend Heartsong: - The songs are very engaging, catchy, rhythmic, and introduce pop culture aspects to children (popular songs, themes.) They include a lot of repetition, important musical patterns, etc, that help develop musicality in children - The classes are interactive, conducive to play and learning, have guided movements for children and parents, and are engaging from beginning to end - Our instructor shared many tips for music making at home, parenting tips, positive effect of music in development, etc. Vanessa truly loves working with children and families, and we got to know her very well over the months that she was our teacher - The teachers are extremely kind, fun, engaging, and knowledgeable (our teacher was Vanessa for all semesters, but we did make-ups with other teachers that were also fantastic) - The staff is very friendly and the studio is clean, organized, inviting for children, and provides many accommodations for families I also appreciated that the studio had a payment plan option, as the classes are a bit pricey (although average for music classes in the Area.) It's important to commit to attending all classes (or complete make-ups) in order to get as much out of it as possible. Additionally, families should aim to listen to songs at home daily in order to reinforce the concepts learned in class with the babies/children! We parted ways with the studio because we enrolled in another kind of music class, but still listen to the songs very often through the app and have jam sessions with my daughter and nephews! read more

We cannot say enough good things about Heartsong Music. My son and I absolutely love it! We completed the babies class with Sally over summer, and I saw my son become so much more alert and into music! Sally was wonderful-- very engaging and fun. We are excited to become a long-term Heartsong family, as we continue into the mixed age classes. Totally worth the price! read more

I have throughly enjoyed watching my 2 year old daughter LOVE Heartsong! Her language has also developed tremendously during our short seven weeks here. We are in Ms. Becca's class and I highly recommend Heartsong and her! It's also nice to meet other Mommies, everyone is so great. read more

Just finished the fall session and registered for the upcoming winter session because we loved it so much. After the demo class ("babies class" for 8 months and younger), I signed my baby up for two babies classes a week and I am glad I did. These music classes have been good for both me and my baby. As a mom (first time mom), I learned a lot about general baby development, how to play with him at home, and how to incorporate music into his life. Getting out of the house and interacting with other moms was really great. Everyone was supportive of one another and shared their experiences from dealing with sleep regression to finding a perfect top to cover a mom butt. My baby got to socialize with other babies. And it seems that he learned from observing other babies also. It could have been a coincidence, but my baby learned to roll first back to tummy and later tummy to back both times after a music class during which he so closely observed older babies rolling over. He took a good nap after each class. Also he loves all the music. When he gets fussy, we play the CD, and it almost always calms him down pretty quickly. My husband calls it a magic. I would like to also add that they give out information sheet about how they clean the instruments in the beginning of the session. Highly recommend this place! I did the demo with Becca (my winter session will be also with her), and my instructors for the fall session were Michelle and Vanessa. All three are awesome. read more

My 2-year old and I attended a 12-week series of classes with Vanessa and it was a total pleasure. She was a wonderful teacher for children (and adults!) and I found the class fun for both of us. Absolutely LOVE Heartsong Music. Started taking my almost two year old to weekly classes, and she loves it. The songs and activities vary from week-to-week, which is great, because it keeps her interested. The instructors are great and very patient, too! Music class was great. Instructor was energetic and you could tell she loved her job...but was still disappointed because most of the music instruments looked old and dirty. Sick kids in the class... (Which is always inevitable ) but I watched some of them suck on instruments....... and put them back in the bins...ready to infect the next child. :( read more

I have two little girls and both have gone to heartsong music classes. My first daughter went to 3 sessions starting at 8 months until about 1.5 years old. She didn't seem to care too much about the class at the time. However, she is now 4 and I can tell she doesn't enjoy music much. My second daughter loves music. Her favorite show is yo gabba and she loves to say " I like to dance" (anyone whose kids love yo gabba will understand that!) She loves heartsong. She dances and sings and is very active in the class, even though she started her first class at 19 months old. It is expensive and I recommend it if your child seems to really enjoy themselves. If your child is ambivalent in class it may not be worth it. You have to decide based on your child if its worth the money. read more

I've been fortunate to take music classes with both of my little girls at Heartsong. It is such a rewarding activity. The quality of the teachers and of the program itself is outstanding. For a family that strictly limits "screen time," these cd's and the movements that go with them have been a god-send to keep my girls busy and happy when things get too slow. I swear both my girls were early talkers partly because of the language-rich environment that comes with Music Together. They love the music and it makes car trips much easier! The school itself is such a pleasant place to hang out before or after class, and I've made some great friends over the years through Heartsong. The director is a fantastic person and she really understands customer service. I can't say enough about this school! read more

We have taken our son to music class here for 2 different sessions (a session is about 12 weeks). It is a great activity for us to do as a family on the weekend and he enjoys it so much. He is now able to participate in some of the songs, do the hand motions and loves playing with the instruments and the props. I was initially skeptical of having kids of such different ages in one class but it really does work. Our toddler looks forward to class every week and has already developed so much appreciation for music. The bonus is that their facilities are very nice, clean and fun place to be for a kid. Their lobby has lots of toys kids can play with before and after class. I recommend this to anyone looking for a scheduled special activity to do with their child. read more

We love Heartsong! We just wrapped up our first ten week session with our now nine month old son, and we are excited for the next one to start. The classes have such a relaxed and fun environment, and we appreciate the freedom to let our son do his thing while there. We don't have to corral him, and there aren't any "off-limits" areas. Our boy is absolutely star struck by his teacher Alyssa, and he loves to crawl over to sit at her feet for much of the class. That really speaks to the environment she creates in her classes; it's such a fun, sweet time of exploration every week! We've loved getting to know and sing many of the same songs over the session (this one was a drum focus), but it never gets stale or boring because Alyssa brings out different instruments and manipulatives each week (sticks, handbells, parachute, ribbons, scarves, etc.). We did use the make up class option once after our little dude missed a class due to RSV, and that was simple and convenient because there are so many class times to choose from. However, it was really fun to see how our little class became such a community over the past couple of months. I'm looking forward to seeing many of the same faces when the next session starts! read more

We have had these lovely ladies out to our preschool several times. They are very experienced with our 1-2 year old group. They bring instruments, music and fun activities. The little ones are always excited to see them. They are a great value for the quality of lesson that they deliver. read more

This is a cute (i hesitate to call it a school) establishment and the music together progrsm is fantastic but I have found a place down south thats cheaper and has teachers that have have been around for more than a few months. The turnover rate at HEARTSONG is high and i impart this partially to the energy I get sometimes from the owner. If you like Sarah Palin's energy, then this woman is for you. I dont know why but something is off. The air of importance, maybe thats it. The teachers are allright and I want to be clear that I found nothing wrong with those teachers that I had before leaving to the other location down south other than their newness to the scene but the abrupt turnover of teachers(especially of the very nice lady who was our teacher just before we left.- not Carrie the owner) and the odd vibe was too much for us. I am really into the supporting local but I dont think this place is in the catalogue. I like keeping austin wierd but not keeping austin fake. read more
