I was expecting much better based on the pictures online and reviews. The location is a little away from the main part of town and is around a 20-minute walk. The two onsite restaurants are ok. I did round up to 3 stars because the front desk staff and the concierge were great and I found out that it was locally owned.

Pulling in you are greeted by a castle-esque hotel. It is stunning. Plenty of parking out front and back. The inside is elegant and spacious. The staff were all extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are beautiful. Huge bathrooms, plenty of room for storage, a work desk, kettle with tea and coffee, seating and tables, and of course the most comfortable bed. We ordered room service one night and they were very fast and the food was delicious and beautifully presented. We enjoyed the leisure room which is equipped with a heated pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, and gym. Bathrooms are inside the pool area with lockers available for 1 euro. My only complaint about the entire stay was I wish the hot tub was hotter! It was more like a warm tub with jets, but it still felt amazing. We felt like Scottish royalty staying here, and if/when we return to Inverness, we will definitely be staying here again. Thank you so much for a memorable stay!

The room we had was a "family room" and it was HUGE, great for an economical choice for a family with kids. Breakfast was above and beyond fantastic. The chef definitely knows his stuff. In addition to toast, cereals, fruit, etc., we were served both porridge and a full Scottish breakfast. We sampled the smoked haddock and poached egg, grilled breakfast with black pudding, eggs, sausage, etc., and the scrambled egg and salmon options. All three choices were excellent! We really hope to return and spend a few days at this quaint spot.

On our second day, we saw walkers clad only in t shirts, so you can tell how successful we were. We did better with the choice of hotel. The Maple Court is set just yards from the fast flowing River Ness (the fastest flowing river, apparently), and there are great walks along the banks both into the city centre and over the rather juddering footbridge to the other bank. Arriving tired and glassy eyed off the rather rocky sleeper, we were able to check in our baggage and go off in search of breakfast. Our room was large, bright and airy, and confortably decorated in soft pastels and pine. Trendy it wasn't but the room was very welcoming, and we found the hotel a great base to go exploring. There is a small bar in the grounds. Breakfasts in the hotel were large and filling, with options of cooked breakfasts, kippers and, of course, porridge. We had dinner at the hotel one evening, where we were one of only two tables. The food was excellent, and the price modest. We booked our stay on a preferential rate through the Scottish Tourist board, and got three nights for the price of two. Our stay here was a real bargain, and we will certainly go back if we are in Inverness again.

John and Wilma are lovely and provided impeccable hospitality. We stayed in the Neil Gunn room and it is huge. The bathroom is a treat, too, with its wonderful shower and towel heating rack. Both the room and the bathroom were impeccably clean. Moyness House is a short walk to downtown but is far enough away that we didn't get the noise. In fact, we walked around much of Inverness and found lots of cute B&Bs. However, all of them were on busy, noisy streets and few had good parking. We picked the Moyness House based on the reviews of other travelers and felt immensely fortunate that we did not end up at any of the other places. We appreciate a good night's rest and definitely got it here. Finally, breakfast here is truly satisfying. We had a Scottish breakfast each morning and were amazed at the freshness of the eggs. If you leave the table hungry, it will be your own fault. Thank you, John and Wilma, for a lovely stay and for making our Highland experience so enjoyable.

When it comes to bed and breakfast locations, there are three things that can make or break the…read moreexperience: 1. The comfort of the bed, 2. The food served, 3. The friendliness of the staff. Granted these three things could apply to any hotel, but with a bed and breakfast - especially if you're staying for a while and/or you're in a remote area - could make or break your vacation. Hubs and I went on a 10 day trip around Scotland. I pre-booked bed and breakfast locations around the country and we drove to a different city every morning. I used my AmEx platinum points to make the reservations, so these were all well established locations and not some small couch in someone's attic. One of our stops was in Inverness. Nice city on the water with quite a few shops, restaurants, and pubs. Next to Glasgow and Edinburgh, this was one of the bigger cities we stayed in (compared to Oban, Dalwhinnie, Narin, etc). I mention this because I have stayed in a few B&B at the time of this review and understand that there are some things you just won't get in a B&B that you would the Waldorf Astoria - or even the Hampton Inn. To make this an easy review to navigate, I will separate this into 3 sections: The Good, The Meh and The Ugly. The good: - The Waverley Guest House is in the heart of the city - so getting around on foot isn't bad. - there are a ton of restaurants and pubs nearby - our room was clean and spacious (room #4) - the room has a bathroom en suite - breakfast was included - the bathroom was very nice, and quite large for a B&B. - the linens were soft, to include the towels. The Meh: - windows barely opened to get a cool breeze (it was stifling hot in our room when we got here; super hot temps this week) - the bed is stiff, but in a cheap way. - only given hand soap for your stay. No shampoo or conditioner. So, if you stay here don't forget yours - no hair dryer - no small welcome basket that seems to be the nice touch a majority of our B&B's have offered - no restaurant on site (which is hit or miss) - check out is early, 1030hrs. 30 min earlier than any of the other locations we have stayed at - no close parking. You'll have to park on the street or in a parking garage 1/4 mile away - the guy at the front desk was friendly enough, but only complained about how many hours he is working and how the breakfast would be determined by how late he worked that evening. In the morning he never said good morning to anyone, he just pushed through with the packaged rolls to refill at the breakfast station. The Ugly: - room 4 is adjacent to the alley. Seagulls and Scots kept us up all night, until past 3AM. Since there were no fans in the room or AC, we had to keep the windows cracked or we would have sweated all night. I slept a total of 2 hours, even as a very heavy sleeper that used melatonin and a pillow over their head. I'm not sure how other rooms were, but this one was horrible for the noise quality. If you're going to say, "well, you should have switched rooms", the other rooms faced the other side of the street where live music was blaring from across the street. - the breakfast left a lot to be desired. Toast, croissants, coffee, and yogurt. That's it. Granted there are cafes near by, but the room rate for this place isn't cheap and I would have expected something a bit nicer. A roll / coffee put out on display isn't a 'breakfast'. Every other location we have stayed at has offered much more - even if the location was smaller and/or more remote. I'm just glad that I am staying somewhere else tonight. I do not recommend this place to others. There are much nicer, quieter locations just on the other side of the river.

I don't remember how or why I booked this hotel (no, it's not a B&B). It was a terrible mistake…read more Checked in & paid without looking at the room. Biggg blunder. Room no larger than your average walk-in closet. Hot, very hot. Windows don't open!, Took one look at it, said "No Way"!! Did I mention a 4 floor walk up? Yep, up with the luggage, down with the heavy luggage. Got our money back finally. Hope y'all get the grim picture.
