If you want truly incredible wedding photographs that are not just timeless but artistic, you won't hire anyone but Stephanie at Ahava Studios! I hired Stephanie to shoot our wedding, as well as to do a boudoir shoot a few months before the wedding. I was nervous about doing the shoot in the days leading up to it, after expressing my feelings to Stephanie she seemed to know just what to say to calm me down and reassure me, of I guess myself and how I am documenting one of the most exciting times in my life. I was doing the shoot to have Stephanie create a beautiful photo book of pictures as a gift for my husband on our wedding day. She arrived to the shoot with a bottle with champagne in hand, which not only helped to relax my nerves, but it made the experience feel fancy! What girl doesn't love someone bringing her champagne!? Stephanie made me feel so comfortable during the shoot, and even sent me a couple sneak peaks of pictures that night! The photo book turned out better than I could have imagined, and my husband absolutely loves it. Then for the big day! I think that every bride in the back of their mind is somewhat worried about particular photo ops being missed. I mean there is so much going on at a wedding how can one person be in so many places at once? Stephanie somehow managed to do it, and do it beautifully. There were moments throughout the event (such as right after the ceremony) that I literately thought to myself, I didn't even see our photographer anywhere around, I really really hope that she got shots of this, or that. I honestly don't remember hardly seeing her at all throughout the day. But when we got our pictures, you would have thought she'd been my personal shadow for hours. She captured everything, plus more than we could have hoped for. From everyone getting ready, to guest arriving, the entire ceremony, the reception, us leaving the venue, plus all the family & wedding party pictures. She was like a one woman photography wonder, I really don't know how she did it all. Something that I really want to emphasis, what an artistic eye Stephanie has. She has an eye for the best angles, back drops, props to use. She took the most incredible pictures of all the details, such as our wedding rings, my wedding shoes, our toasting glasses, the cake....so unique. Something that I think turns a lot of people off to a photographer, is the price. You see this number that seems so outrageous to you for pictures, that you just go onto looking for the next photographer who's price seems more, "reasonable". My husband was one of those people. Totally turned off by the price. That is until we got our pictures. Not only were the services provided to us worth every penny that we paid, but after seeing how great everything turned out & how happy we were, we would have paid even more. They looked like lovely pictures of real, happy people - not overly-processed and cinematic. This is exactly the type of style I wanted for our micro-wedding. I generally dislike having my photo taken, and I'm notorious among my friends and family for refusing to be photographed during events. In spite of that, naturally I expected to endure many pictures on my wedding day. Even with my reservations, it all passed so quickly and easily! No feelings of overwhelm, exhaustion, frustration, or impatience. To begin with, we had a Zoom call to serve as our introduction. My distaste for being seen digitally extends to video chats, but Joanna immediately helped put me at ease. She is an expert in her field and specializes in people who are less comfortable with having their photo taken. She offered logistical support in planning our day, as well as the emotional support that comes with having an ally who can understand your position and work with you. She is so kind and personable, which is perfect for those of us who are a little more on the timid side. In terms of the day of, she was already at the venue well before the rest of us arrived. In between taking some get-ready shots, she even helped my family member get into a very tight-fitting dress. I genuinely don't know if we could have wrangled that zipper up without Joanna's help! After that, she gave a brief lesson to my person-of-honor, showing how to properly fluff out my dress's long train behind me. Additionally, I noticed she was skilled with remembering the names of our close family and wedding-party members. Joanna is so organized and swift with her camera. Despite beginning our ceremony a little later than scheduled, she managed to shoot every photo we wanted within our tight timeframe of just two hours - with a few minutes to spare, too! She's also great at giving clear direction to help improve positioning and posing. And it all flew by so fast. She had our photos ready with astonishing speed (just one week later!), and they were just as wonderful as I had hoped! These are exactly what I wished our wedding pictures would look like. I'm so happy with the variety of different shots Joanna managed to capture, and I'm in disbelief of how well they turned out. My biggest concern about my wedding was the pictures. I interviewed a photographer, and met briefly with others at the wedding show in Seattle. She was so much fun, and always had a smile on her face. Karen met my husband and I before the wedding to discuss what we wanted. She was thorough in her questions, and took the time to get to know us. She let us know what she needed from us (i.e. which pictures we thought were important, if it came down to a time crunch, what could we give up, etc.). The day of our wedding, my family wasn't helpful at all. People were complaining, and no one helped me. Karen jumped right in and helped coordinate things so I, as the bride, wasn't doing it all. She always had a smile on her face, but was able to get everyone moving (which is impressive because getting everyone together in my family can be like nailing jello to a tree). Ann was so nice, and having two photographers (FOR THE PRICE OF ONE!!) was incredible because we had pictures of both my husband and I getting ready, and shots from the front and back of most parts of the wedding. While Karen was out shooting photos of us after the ceremony, Ann was getting shots of cocktail hour. When we were going through the photos, I was surprised to see so much had happened while we were gone - and we weren't away that long! For the boudoir shoot, I couldn't have been more comfortable. Julie made me feel at ease. She also has quite the ability to direct, which really helped me alot! I wasn't sure if I would have to come up with poses on my own, but Julie took care of it! She wasn't pushy at all either. More of a gentle suggestion as how to stand/sit/etc. Her boudoir photos are super classy too. I wasn't into the whole "strip down to a thong and let it hang out" kind of poses. She sent me the pictures within a week of the shoot and had my select ones I would like for a small photo book. Her suggestions of layout and pictures were very helpful! I am more than pleased with the final product and the entire process. For the bridal shower, Julie came a little early to shoot the details of the event. A few weeks before she sent me a form to fill out with any details I wanted in terms of people/things to shoot. I specified I would like photos with my mom - that was really important to me. I was so caught up in talking to people at the shower, I didn't realize how fast time went by! Julie actually pulled me aside to ask if she could take some photos of me and my mom. She is SO on top of it! You also couldn't even tell she was there.
