We began seeing him in February and had to end our services 3 months later due to many issues handled inadequately. I had no intention on sharing my experience through a review until he completely ignored me over email. Since beginning services with him in February, he had made several passive aggressive statements but we looked the other way for our daughter who thoroughly enjoys piano. He made comments about us not ordering a new keyboard saying things like, "I don't know if it's a money thing...", and "I've mentioned this before, and for whatever reason you haven't ordered another keyboard...", which is completely INAPPROPRIATE! Maybe we hadn't ordered it because we wanted her to earn it, or maybe we hadn't ordered it because we wanted it to be a reward at the end of the school year? Regardless, it was none of his business why. She had a working keyboard and that's all that should have concerned him. And then most recently, over Skype in May he said, "I don't know how much you care about her piano lessons but she's quite good." And what I said back to him was, "We care about whatever she cares about." It's clear he is not a parent. No person who is a parent would presume parents don't care about piano lessons they are paying for so their child can learn and enjoy piano, and no parent would involve children in monetary matters the way he did either. After my daughter's final piano class with him, she informed me that at the end of their meeting he said to her, "Please remind your mother to pay for the month of June as she is always late with the payment." What kind of teacher says a comment like this to an 11-year-old? What kind of teacher makes such a passive aggressive comment to a child about money? Why not give the parent a call or send the parents an email if there is any concern with payment. Moreover, there was no "always"; he had only been paid for February and March and then the pandemic happened. His form of payment is very archaic and he only accepts written checks either brought to him at class or mailed to him. So as any normal human being would know the month of April in Massachusetts was quite stressful due to COVID-19. Going out to get groceries was scary in and of itself and remembering to mail his check was not on my top priority list. So that payment was a late which I apologized for, even give the circumstances. Then I was sick at the beginning of May and my daughter unfortunately missed a class to which he had a very flippant attitude about even though I was in the hospital. I made a payment arrangement with him and told him I would send him a check for the month of May. He finally agreed to accepting Zell in the month of May. So for him to make a comment like that to my daughter on June 2 was completely inappropriate and uncalled for. When I brought this to his attention he did not respond back with apologies or understanding, he simply responded back with excuses and tried to shame me saying that he was "sorry if it embarrassed you". If he were a parent then he'd understand that it wasn't embarrassing, it simply put my daughter in an awkward and uncomfortable position, therefore inappropriate and unprofessional. I expected an email back and he did not respond. 3 days later I reached out to my daughter's previous teacher who was willing to make time for her on weekends, as she lives far away and weekdays are hard for us. I informed Stephen of this and listed out all the reasons why his employment with us was no longer going to work. He decided that his pride and ego have too much value and he would not respond to that either. Horrible customer service! Not to mention that his flippant attitude towards my daughter, as if having her as a student didn't mean anything was even more insulting. Being a good pianist is one thing, but being a good service provider is a whole other thing for this guy. Don't trust him with your kids.

I played piano for approximately 10 years as a child and was looking to pick it up again after 12 years of not playing and taking lessons. Registration was easy when I first signed up for classes. I spoke with Greg, and he was really thorough with all available options and has always been thorough in answering my questions. I've never run into issues with the administration and think they are generally well-organized and friendly. They do the best to accommodate your schedule; I recently was able to extend my lesson time with no problem. I can't speak for all the teachers, but seems they hire teachers with exceptional credentials. I've been taking lessons from Jayoung since I started. With my hectic schedule between work and going back to school to get my Master's, I don't always have the time to practice as much as I like; however, she is extremely patient and understanding. She also is a good listener when it comes to my interests in repertoire and has guided me through some songs I always wanted to learn, but never tried due to the complexity. She has confidence in her students, and never have I heard her tell me that I wasn't capable of playing a song. The facility itself is an older house in Brookline. Some of the rooms may be a little cramped, but I think the building is perfect for what it is. There is no shortage of lesson rooms, and I've never had issues with being able to practice in another room right before my lesson (just check with administration first). Highly recommended!

When large multinational corporations buy small, local businesses, the quality always goes down hill. __________________ A small company asking for a very premium price on their horns...BE CAREFUL!! This is a young company, less than 20 years in the horn making business, but they somehow feel entitled to demand a very high price for their horns. I've tried FOUR TIMES to reach someone at this company that knows anything substantial about their horns, and every time I've called, the person I needed to speak to was either not there or unavailable. They are not very forthcoming in explaining how some of their designs are innovative or better than the more well-known brands. I have always gotten nebulous answers like...our horns are more open, our tolerances are better, our horns are more consistent, our overtones are richer, etc. These are all nice explanations to sell horns, but when someone asks them to explain or show why they believe their rotor designs are better, they don't answer. They are not a very transparent company in answering a customer's questions - they even hide their prices from view online. And this lack of openness is a red flag for me, especially when they are asking over $1000 more for the same instrument made by other well--known instrument companies. Bottom line...if you are not getting the answers you need to hear or you are getting very vague answers, that should be a clear sign to keep shopping around.

They are located on Newbury St which was extremely convenient (right off of Hynes Convention Center T Stop), they have great hours (which is important for me as a working professional) and their staff has excellent reviews from past and current students (would recommend reading these on their website, as it helped me to determine which instructor I wanted to work with). When I began taking lessons, I shared with my instructor, Pierre, that I was completely new to musical instruments - I didn't even know the difference between notes. He was extremely patient with me and started at the basics. Since this time, I have grown so much in both my ability to play and my knowledge of musical theory. In addition to teaching me classical pieces, Pierre allows me to bring pieces that I'm interested in learning to lessons and helps me to break them down. Not only has this been fun (would 100% recommend learning Just a Friend by Biz Markie on piano and whipping it out at your next social gathering), but really helps me to understand the theory side of music and how it can be applied to all different genres and time periods. With COVID, I have had some life changes and moved from Boston to the west coast. I was excited to try piano lessons here but my experience was not client-centered. First, the person who connected with me about discussing what I need was going to call me on the phone but was inconsistent about scheduling. Then, although everybody was polite (if you discount my instructor asking me "no, but where are you *really* from"), the instructor I was matched with definitely did not start with where I was at and imposed their own perspective and agenda on me for how we would be learning because it's what they were familiar with. Also, during the lesson, the space was loud because people could be overheard singing. So, it was very difficult to hear the instructor and concentrate. Looking back, I think the person that I initially connected with to discuss what I was hoping for probably just wanted to make a sale instead of being straight up that perhaps what they had to offer did not match my needs.
