To say he struggles is putting it mildly. He strives to be like his peers and do the things they do, but unfortunately some of his struggles just make that too difficult for him. She always asks what they would like to sing in addition to the planned songs, so the children have always a chance to practice their favorite songs. The only disappointment is that we could attend the studio only once a week because we started from the middle of the year, and all classes were already full. We hope to sing with Elena more often in the future.

I started at the JPMC as an adult in my thirties with no musical experience. My regular lesson with John Payne has been one of the highlights of my week for many years. Through these lessons I have learned to play the alto sax and to improvise -- something I barely dared imagine I could ever do. And, as a result of experience learning and playing the alto sax, I hear music differently than I did before -- and enjoy it even more I have loved playing in the sax choir wtih Duncan Martin and as part of an ensemble with two different teachers. All of my teachers there have been outstanding: excellent musicians and warm, caring, supportive teachers. They are very good with both adults and children -- and believe fimly that adults with no previous musical experience can learn to play, to perform and enjoy it. JPMC provides a safe environment in which you can learn alone; learn to play as part of group; and, perform! John Payne is not only an inpiring teacher a wonderful human being, but is also a superb musician who plays some of the best jazz and blues you will hear anywhere. Playing in the sax choir means you get to perform onstage with John and his professional band -- one of the peak experiences of my life! I recommend the John Payne music center to anyone who wants to learn to play jazz, blues or a wide variety of other types of music.

I've been taking classes with Karin Stephan for over three years. She is a fantastic instructor; I…read morelove her gentleness and attention to detail. When I started, I had a chronic knee injury. Karin has been great in helping me work through it. Although my knee problem is largely resolved, Karin will often suggest posture modifications so I don't exacerbate my condition. Unlike other yoga classes I've attended, Karin's sessions are small with a focus on personal attention. She comes around to each of us, making subtle corrections with her gentle touch. And with 40+ years of experience in the Iyengar method, Karin is a complete pro. She is also really smart (alludes to philosophy and film) and has a great sense of humor. Thanks to Karin, I'm in better shape than I've ever been, and feel more centered when I leave class. Can't ask for more than that.

I'm an adult who has been taking piano lessons through Page Music Lessons for just over a year now…read more Learning a musical instrument was something that I had always wanted to do growing up, but never had the opportunity to. When I made the decision that I was going to begin, I did a lot of research on different studios and instructors before I landed on Page Music Lessons. They are located on Newbury St which was extremely convenient (right off of Hynes Convention Center T Stop), they have great hours (which is important for me as a working professional) and their staff has excellent reviews from past and current students (would recommend reading these on their website, as it helped me to determine which instructor I wanted to work with). When I began taking lessons, I shared with my instructor, Pierre, that I was completely new to musical instruments - I didn't even know the difference between notes. He was extremely patient with me and started at the basics. Since this time, I have grown so much in both my ability to play and my knowledge of musical theory. In addition to teaching me classical pieces, Pierre allows me to bring pieces that I'm interested in learning to lessons and helps me to break them down. Not only has this been fun (would 100% recommend learning Just a Friend by Biz Markie on piano and whipping it out at your next social gathering), but really helps me to understand the theory side of music and how it can be applied to all different genres and time periods. With COVID, I have had some life changes and moved from Boston to the west coast. The studio and Pierre have been extremely flexible and understanding, helping me to move my lessons to a date and time that work for my new schedule and time zone. I would (and have!) whole heartily recommend Page Music Lessons to any adult who is looking to learn a musical instrument.

I've been going to BMS for over a year now for piano lessons. I played piano for approximately 10 years as a child and was looking to pick it up again after 12 years of not playing and taking lessons. Registration was easy when I first signed up for classes. I spoke with Greg, and he was really thorough with all available options and has always been thorough in answering my questions. I've never run into issues with the administration and think they are generally well-organized and friendly. They do the best to accommodate your schedule; I recently was able to extend my lesson time with no problem. I can't speak for all the teachers, but seems they hire teachers with exceptional credentials. I've been taking lessons from Jayoung since I started. With my hectic schedule between work and going back to school to get my Master's, I don't always have the time to practice as much as I like; however, she is extremely patient and understanding. She also is a good listener when it comes to my interests in repertoire and has guided me through some songs I always wanted to learn, but never tried due to the complexity. She has confidence in her students, and never have I heard her tell me that I wasn't capable of playing a song. The facility itself is an older house in Brookline. Some of the rooms may be a little cramped, but I think the building is perfect for what it is. There is no shortage of lesson rooms, and I've never had issues with being able to practice in another room right before my lesson (just check with administration first). Highly recommended!

I don't want to give a star rating because I've only done three or four drop in classes here…read more However, I just want to warn people about the hot classes. I've gotten bad migraines after two of the hot classes here, both of which I found pretty boot-camp-y and un-yogic. One of them, the instructor was yelling about " Making your legs the same length " and " uneven limbs " the whole time. Well, I have many close to me with physical deformities/abnormalities--myself included--and that just completely took me out of it. I've had more empathetic experiences at Bikram inspired Hot 26. If you're very low body fat and love to take the most intense Power Flow classes on offer, this might be a good place for you. I have been practicing for six years and I'm in decent shape generally and on the intermediate end in most classes--but I was on the floor and ended up with bad migraines here. The Iyengar class was the opposite, very slow and jerky with extremely detailed cueing. Not a workout at all, but nice if you like Iyengar (I found here that I don't really).

I am so grateful for Endurance! I had walked by the studio for several years and, when looking in…read morethe window, was intimidated by the reformer machines, to be honest. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with breast cancer and needed a different kind of workout and a coach to help me through that I decided to try Endurance. I am soooo glad that I tried! First of all, Julie is amazing. She is highly educated in anatomy and physiology as it pertains to movement and she is an excellent communicator. Being new to Pilates, she really helped me do the movements correctly which is key in Pilates. It's easy to "cheat" but cheating doesn't get you results. Secondly, I no longer feel intimidated by the reformer. Haha. Julie made sure that I felt welcomed and comfortable from the start. Even when I was going through chemotherapy and radiation, bald, overweight, edematous, and exhausted, she made me feel welcomed. She made me feel cared-for. She tailored my workout by how I was feeling and addressed issues right on the spot, like if I noted pain in one area or another. There were so many changes going on in my body that I couldn't keep up with and Julie helped me recognize them and helped me come up with solutions. For example, she recognized certain areas of my body that needed more stretching which probably became tight from spending so much time on the couch after chemo. Now that I have finished chemo and radiation, we are working on building back up my core strength. So grateful she is my coach to encourage me through an ab work out! I have not taken a class with any of the other instructors but I understand they are highly qualified and amazing too. And from watching the end of a class, here and there, waiting for my session to begin, they are amazing! To sum it up: Don't hesitate to try! I am so glad that I did.
