They were very expensive but I was desperate. The thing that let me down was that when I called back for a re prescription of the medication I had gotten before, they tried to charge me for a phone consultation and to fax it. Their fees were extremely high for the service offered and most doctors will re prescribe medication without the need for a further consultation. They are obviously trying to maximise their profits as any ruthless business would do. If you use their services you will be considered a client and not a patient. Only to be used in desperate situations and if you are prepared to pay extortionate prices.

However, when my Dad had his operation cancelled, TWICE, THE DAY BEFORE, enough was enough and he went private. Being admitted to The Spire was like checking into a four star hotel. No queues, no waiting time, no stressed out nurses and sleep deprived junior doctors, No busy wards with dubious bed neighbours telling you all about their prolapsed piles, no, no, no, The Spire is private darling and that would never do!! It had free parking, a lovely, friendly receptionist and pleasant waiting area which we were in for almost a minute before a porter came to fetch dad and introduce him to his room. Quite honestly, having had no experience of private hospitals before, the room was not quite as elaborate as I expected. Maybe the chaise longue and swags and tails curtains in my imagination were a bit farfetched. The Spire's bedroom looked like a nice Premier Travel Inn with a TV and a lovely white en-suite bathroom. I suppose I was regarding the whole situation from the wrong perspective. The Spire is not about the decor, it is about providing excellent quality individual care in an environment where a patient can choose their own consultant, experience tremendous facilities and have their ailments addressed promptly. Actually, it was well posh! Dad had to choose from a menu of full English or Continental breakfast, a typical dinner was chicken and sweetcorn soup and prawn salad- he didn't want to leave!. All the staff were so friendly and there were no visiting restrictions. Dad was more than amused to realise that most of the patients were there for cosmetic surgery and I must say that I did have a look at what procedures are performed there ( boobs, nose job, lipo, tummy tuck, eyelid surgery and bingo wings...... I was just curious). Great hospital, lovely staff and dad received the treatment he deserved.

The Professor is a wonderful gentleman supported by a Brilliant team within the hospital. At every stage from appointment to admission through recovery to discharge the staff have been wonderful. The Hospital Director Mr Eadsforth has continued to improve and enhance the experience of both patients and staff, and he is well- liked and respected within the organisation. The food is excellent and I highly recommend this hospital if you are contemplating a procedure in the near future.

I don't normally like to review hospitals as I don't like to effect my treatment, but it is…read moresomething I have started doing recently, starting with Birch Hill in Rochdale and then onto my local GP surgeries and The Christie in Manchester, so i continue this here, I am not commenting on my experience with the nurses, just the overall experience and feel of this place. Sadly, I always hate attending the eye hospital as the staff always seem really slow, and they always do lots of tests meaning you go in, out, in out of the waiting room, just hanging around when it always seems to be overbooked waiting, they didn't even book me in for a test they didn't do before, which meant having to work longer, and see a trainee doctor who took twice as long as she didn't seem confident, she seemed to know the facts but not how to use them and really did need help, so it was sad to see her struggling on her own. I also dealt with a trainee at other parts, they seemed to be tying their best but sadly just slowing a busy clinic down. The atrium of the eye hospital is quite nice and modern, it has information about eyes and even a dedication to their 200 year anniversary, this is a new building this is just since it started in 1814, at one side of the room they have 1814 and 2014 on the other, in the typical color vision test style which is pretty cool. The signal here seems really bad, especially when in waiting rooms for both data and simply calling and texting. Sadly, due to facts mentioned above and some waiting rooms still not seeming as nice as atriums, this really is a place I dread going to when June strikes every year, because they simply overbook and struggle to do things right, so sadly I feel this hospital deserves one star because they really struggle handling certain, basic tasks, making the wait seem like you are in an A and E ward.

When you are unwell, the last thing you need is an abrupt and appearing uncaring receptionist, we all know they do a very hard job, but a smile goes a long way. The telephone system is now better than it was The Drs I have seen are great Dr Segar is my fav, she is caring, understanding, and listens, and the only problem is she is too popular so hard to get an appointment with, but worth the wait.
