If you eat only one meal out in Toronto, don't miss heavenly Perogy! Homemade Ukrainian food is a darling restaurant in the basement of a church. Cute ambiance is accompanied by kind and quick service. We tried borsht after our servers recommendation and it ended up being my favorite. From perogies to schnitzel to stuffed cabbage, we tried it all and it was all so delicious we cleaned our plates. A truely unique and delicious experience.

Finally got a taste of the fabulous Ukrainian perogies, schnitzel and cabbage rolls @heavenlyperogyto today Heavenly Perogy serves a variety of both hot and frozen food, and is located at 400 Bathurst St, tucked modestly in the St Volodymyr Cathedral Banquent Hall in the church basement. Pictured in 1st spread: vegan cabbage rolls with white/purple coleslaw and sauerkraut, sausage with sauerkraut, mushroom perogies, pork schnitzel, and blueberry perogy dessert. 2nd spread (frozen food): Dyruny (potato pancakes), Syrynky (cottage cheese cakes), Butternut squash and coconut milk soup, meatballs, and meat cabbage rolls I can only vouch for the hot food so far, and loved everything I've ordered! Also wish I ordered double the amount of the dessert (blueberry) perogies Will update my review once I've tasted the frozen goodies! When checking out their website, you can also donate to the Ukraine Defense Forces Fund, the Ukraine Humanitarian Crisis Appeal, or the BCU Foundation in Canada. Any donation amount makes a difference to the citizens living this heartbreaking, abhorrent reality. #standwithukraine

Tried out as much of their offering as I could - a set including a cabbage roll, two coleslaws, and 5 pierogis, and some borscht on the side. Everything was excellently savoury - I think I'd had the impression of borscht as something bitter but it's become a new favourite! Service was *too* kind and apologetic (if that's possible??). The setting of a church added another level to the experience. Especially in these circumstances, they absolutely deserve your patronage!

I'm so surprised that this perogy place is within a church! They have their sign out front and you need to go two sets of stairs to reach it. Food portion size is good. You get a nice side of two kinds of coleslaw with 5 perogies and a cabbage roll. It was delicious! The perogies were topped with caramelized onions, bacon bits, and sour cream on the side. The service was really good. The guy who prepared our food was very polite and friendly. I would want to go back to try the pork goulash!

Heavenly Perogy is a local gem for those craving Perogies! Located within a church, it's across the street from Toronto Western Hospital. You'll be greeted by the owner Tanya, who is very kind and loves to share her joys of cooking authentic Ukrainian food. I come here for my lunch and most meals are $10-16. Order in person or via Doordash, Ritual. Open during the lockdown! Come and try these Heavenly Perogies!

Deliciously!! Yummy !! Everyone must try their perogies potatoes/cottage cheese & cabbage rolls.

I love the perogy here, and the service is great too. It's in the basement of the church, which may seem confusing, but it's fine.

From what I understand, Friday has more singing, and Saturday more dancing. Even if you don't understand the language, it is so much fun to enjoy. Service is definitely on the slow side - they could hire a couple more waiters. - Borscht: always a good way to start a meal. Soup was nice but nothing out of the world. I enjoyed the smoked meat pieces that were added in. The garlicy buns that came with it were nice and fluffy and delicious. 4.5/5 - Family meat platter with buckwheat and sauerkraut sides: a hefty platter. Nice smoked flavour in a lot of the meats. Everything was juicy and well seasoned. There was enough variety so it didn't feel redundant or monotonous. Usually I am intimidated by blood sausage, but this one was delicious. Does not have a very strong iron flavour, it is moreso umami and meaty. One platter can feed a family of 4 no problem. Sides were well portioned. 5/5 - Sour cherry varenyky: the dough felt a bit thick to me, and I would have loved more sour cherry on top rather than the maraschino cherries. The maraschino cherries are very sweet and pack a different flavour punch, which draws the attention away from the sour cherry filling. 3/5 - Kvas: delicious rye bread flavoured, non-alcoholic beverage. The flavour was rich enough and not too sweet. Makes for a perfect meat and bread combo. 5/5

The decor is horrendous with the banquet hall chair covers pompously hanging over beat up chairs, and equally pompous synthetic linen. The service is like it was in the 80s in Russia: insincere and clueless. I was quite happy that there was no music -- I could actually enjoy a conversation. I'd return there for the food.

The staff kindly brewed a fresh coffee right before my eyes which was a nice touch. Before ordering the perogies I might add that I had asked her how many and how big they were considering I was paying around $7.00 for one serving, which was a little steep if you ask me. Well she said it would be average size and I believed it until I opened it up later to find that infact they were HALF the size of any perogy I have ever seen in my life and 3x more greasy! I am shocked, and insulted as a Ukrainian myself and growing up with the food this was a poor excuse. The whole place was tacky and an attempt wad made to appear fancy but that was a genuine fail. I'm actually sorry to write this but its true.

The owner (I believe she is the owner) greeted us and told us we could sit anywhere. She brought us water and menus. My sister and I ordered 2 cabbage rolls, Potato and Cheese Pierogies, Meat Pierogies with bacon and onions to share. For my son, we tried ordering the schnitzel sandwich, but was told that was unavailable. My son doesn't eat mashed potatoes so I asked if I could just order him a schnitzel and she said yes. The food came out in about 15 minutes. The cabbage rolls were fantastic, the perfect amount of acidity in the sauce. I really don't like tomatoes or cabbage, but there is something special about the cabbage rolls. I ate very bit of mine. The pierogies were wonderful. I usually prefer just potato and cheese, but honestly between those and the meat, I couldn't decide which I liked more. Both were flavorful especially with the sauteed onions and sour cream. My son's schnitzel was huge! He could only eat about half of it and when my son asked for ketchup (much to my dismay) the owner was very nice about it and commented that's the way her daughter likes it too. Honestly the food was absolutely wonderful and the service was great. It was very similar to what I had in Poland. If this restaurant was closer to my home I would visit often. We had no issue with parking. We were able to get a spot on the street right in front of the restaurant. Parking was also not too expensive since you aren't in the downtown area. If you are in the area and want a wonderful meal, be sure to visit.
