I find it sad that the new owner has no inclination to say Hello when I walk in. Been in 3 times since ownership changed and there is never a welcome from her, even when she's sitting down on her couch talking to a friend. The best part about this shop was the welcoming feeling you had from Helen and chatting with her about projects and life. Miss her. This shop is more than just yarn! It's a community rich with talent and kindness! As a beginner who sits on the couch for help and questions while the store is bustling, I appreciate the focus and attention to my questions! The staff are supportive and knowledgeable that hasn't changed, even if ownership has! The community gathers on Tuesday's from 4-6 to knit and chat. I love making my annual trek to Heavenly Yards when we come to Bayside to escape our hot weather in Texas. Cute local yarn shop with lots of sock yarn, but also a good amount of thicker yarns. Mostly mass produced, and a corner of local/hand-dyed stuff. Average prices. Cute selection of buttons. The girl working on the day we stopped in was silent for the first few minutes we were in the store but very nice once we started talking. Definitely a good local store. read more

This is one of my favorite yarn stores. It's about 90 minutes away but worth the drive! Owner and employees are very friendly and helpful. Lots of local yarns and a good assortment of standards. Plus, they always seem to have the needle size I need or can help with a bit of creative transposing to fit what I've got (love that can-do attitude.) They even let my husband and well-behaved dog sit in the front while I shop. Definitely worth a detour. read more

I live in Alaska and I make sure when Im in Maine , i stop in Belfast to load up for the year. My favorite yarn shop in all the world. Helen, the owner is so friendly and helpful. And yet she also knows how to give you space if you need an hour or more to touch, look, examine and contemplate, before you decide on what you. There is absolutely no pressure to buy and i have even bern talked out of an item for an alternative sale skein. Helen provides access to patterns on Ravelry, help if you are stuck on a pattern and a comfy chair to sit and knit a while. This shop, as is Helen, are true gems. read more

This is a fabulous yarn store! We have spent many summers in Belfast, Me where this store is located. The selection of yarns is terrific, the pricing is very fair and the owner is incredibly knowledgeable and an all around decent human being. Both the woman who owns the store and the younger woman who works there are very easy to talk to and are very willing to help out with any questions. There is a great selection of local yarns, some of it handspun. There is yarn in this store in all price ranges and for all projects, from delicate lace to super-chunky neckwarmers. There are quite a few choices for luxury yarns, lots of wool and alpaca, tons of sock yarn, and also some easy-care acrylic blends. Whether you want crochet thread, shiny mohair, or basic wool, you will find a nice selection and good service here.
