We went for the grand opening and unfortunately didn't know we needed an appointment for the tattoos. The initial social media ad said walk-ins were welcome. Later, the owner posted an update on her Instagram about required appointments but we didn't see it in time. It should have been posted on Heavy Metal Tattoo's shop Instagram account, not just the owner's personal account. We were disappointed that we couldn't get ink from her that day, but we understand the high demand. We ended up getting pierced by Stevi and Mills. They were both awesome! Stevi was mindful that my partner is terrified of needles. She kept us laughing and that eased my partner's nerves. She finished the tongue piercing in record time! We spent more time talking and laughing than actually getting pierced. Mills did my tragus piercing. He's a piercing apprentice, but you'd never know it! My piercing could not have been more perfect. Exactly centered and beautifully done. I'm extremely picky about my piercers so I was weary at first, seeing as I had no background information on Stevi or Mills to begin with. I'm so glad we decided to get pierced by them. I will absolutely be coming back for future piercings. When the shop owner, Sam, has appointment openings, I'll be booking with her. I've been to many places where I think it is a good place. It's not until after I get my ink I look at it and have such a sad feeling. Not this place. Our dear friend who has had a sleeve done by Bobby (Bob Z) recommended this place to us. I can truthfully share that Bobby did an outstanding job. My consultation Bobby listened to what I wanted, Nightmare Before Christmas, and made some suggestions. He then set me up with an appointment for two months later. When I came in for my first inking he was very thoughtful and did a fantastic job. I could not have been more pleased. Out of 0-10 pain scale it was a 1 and that's not even a hurt. For my next appointment a month later was for color. Wow now that one hurt, I'd say a 7. I cried a lot. But not because he did anything wrong. Some places on my body hurt more than others. I was able to bring a pillow and blanket to make myself comfortable both times. Bobby was able to allow me to rest and make sure I was doing good. Very professional and very attentive. Bobby made me feel like I could trust him. We do. As a matter of fact this coming up sitting he's doing a Tardis and I know he will do amazing. I would trust him inking me anytime. My daughter will be 18 soon and Bobby will be trustee to do her first ink. Let me also say that Bobby does excellent galaxy color. This place is clean and big. Bobby also has others that he employs and they too are super talented and very professional. Over all I had a fantastic sitting, laughed, cried, held my breath, & had some wicked ink done. Got a smiley face tattoo on my ankle but some of the lines on it are thicker than some of the others

I had a piece needing re-doing, as the original artist did a lackluster and incomplete job, and wouldn't fix it (thanks, Chris O'Toole at Love N Hate in Lewisville). Symmetry 6 was recommended to me by a friend who had his sleeves done by the owner, Bob Z. He told me Bob is retired, but assured me I'd be in great hands, no matter which artist did my work. I did my research, and chose Jose Arriaga, due to his skilled shading. He did an AMAZING job. No longer do I look at this piece with frustration and sadness. Jose charged me almost half of what the original piece cost me. He also ended up doing a piece for my dad, same day. Again, more than reasonable pricing, and a beautiful job! In fact, I actually encouraged him to start charging more. I will never go anywhere again. The facility is super sterile, and you see evidence of that at every artist's station. Every artist there was fully engaged in their own work, yet still made an effort to stop by other stations and chat with customers. I cannot recommend this place, and it's artists, enough. read more

I came late to the world of tattoos. My first was in 2013. I was 50 years old. It was a tattoo of my son's portrait. Since my son has passed away in 2012 at the age of 20, this tattoo had to be good. My son had gotten several tattoos from Bob Z and I had always thought they were good work. So it naturally made sense -- for several reasons -- to ask Bob Z to do this important piece of work. Well, the results were amazing. Bob Z has talent. Not only was my tattoo memorable, but even now people, complete strangers, come up to me and remark how my son's image actually looks like, well, a real person! The lines are clean, the shading is realistic, and the image has all the depth and resonance that I could have ever asked for in a portrait piece. But what really set Bob Z apart was his heart. He has a terrific "bed side manner," if you know what I mean. And his heart shows in his pieces. There is something that sets his work apart from many other artists, and I think it's an intangible quality that might only best be described as love. Bob Z loves what he does, and he loves his clients. That quality shows in his designs and execution. Since that first tattoo, I have asked Bob Z to apply two more pieces. Each time, I consulted with him about broad concepts I had in mind. I'm not an artist, so I left the design up to him. He continued to impress me with his design choices. He was able to take my raw ideas and come up with a tattoo design that blew my mind with its placing, spacing, shading, storytelling, and beauty. People who have never had a tattoo always ask me, "Did it hurt?" Well, yes! Tattoos are NOT a pain-free experience! However, to me, pain is part of the creative process. In the same way that I understand women experience pain in the birth of a child and then soon exchange memories of the pain for the wonderful gift it produced, so too my tattoos have been created during a painful process, and yet the pain fades immediately and the remaining result is a thing of permanent beauty and love, a new part of me. All that to say that Bob Z is a master tattoo artist whose work will satisfy for years after the pain of the process has faded. I highly recommend Bob Z! read more
