Unfortunately, our particular dealings with Coastal Insurance of Port Isabel, Texas, have been…read morestressful as well as time-consuming and could have potentially ruined our reputation with Progressive Insurance Company along with our credit rating. In mid-May, we visited the Coastal office to pay our annual fee on an RV. The person we spoke with ran the routing number from a check and we went on our way. A week later, we received an e-mail stating insufficient funds. Initially, we thought our bank account had been hacked and cleared out. On checking, there had been no activity on the account, nor had Progressive made any attempt to withdraw funds. The next morning, we returned to Coastal Insurance, and they again ran the routing number. At home, we realized they had charged us $20 more than the week before. I called Coastal; they told us it was an insufficient funds charge. When I stated our bank had not had any activity, the Coastal rep told us (after brief discussion with someone on her end) that she had input the numbers "correctly," and therefore it was up to us to deal with Progressive "on that." During the three following weeks, I made calls to Progressive trying to resolve the issue. Their agents were nothing but extremely helpful. On the first call, they immediately removed the insufficient funds charge. We then received a cancellation notice from Coastal along with a $52 cancellation fee. After talking with Progressive, that charge was also removed. Still no bank activity, however. At this point, we still thought it must be a glitch with Progressive's end. On a third call to Progressive, the agent and I finally figured out that Coastal Insurance had indeed input the routing and bank account numbers incorrectly. Problem solved. After all this, we were still receiving cancellation notices from Coastal. In addition, mailings were informing us that a hold had been put on our ability to pay by check with Progressive (should we wish to reinstate our policy). At this point, I returned to Coastal's offices and asked to speak with the owner. Her first response: "Why didn't you come to me?" We had already made two trips to Coastal and placed a phone call in which her representative had told us to take care of it ourselves. I'm not sure what else we should have been required to do at the time as a customer. My opinion is that the owner showed no real remorse for this incident and as a customer, I felt reprimanded. We do have paperwork to back up this review, and Progressive has noted in our file that it was the agent at fault.

I signed up with a website that offered low auto insurance quotes. Within minutes, I was contacted…read moreby Brenda with State Farm who happily answered all of my questions and was able to quote me a much lower price than I've been paying. The price was so good that I scheduled an appointment to go over the types of coverage and other types of insurance, i.e., Life, Renters, Drone and Cargo Trailer. With multiple policies, I was given a considerable discount, plus a discount for having taken a safe driver course through AARP and another for putting an app on my phone that monitors my driving habits. Brenda worked hard to ensure that I got the coverage that worked best for me, and, I really did end up saving money!

Although I've never had issues with customer service in the past, my last in-person visit was less…read morethan acceptable in my opinion. I have been coming to this location for years, and until recently, I have never had a problem getting my insurance paid for. The typical hours for this location, as listed on Google, are from 8 AM to 8 PM. So, I was surprised when I visited on a weekday after work and found the location closed. It was barely 4:45 PM, and I was upset by this. I even double-checked the time because I was confused. The last time I visited, there was a handwritten note stating "temporary hours: 8 to 6," which was also inconvenient for me, considering the time I usually finish work. When I expressed my frustration, an employee who had been behind a partition wall walked up and asked, "Are you just going to pay a bill?" I thought to myself, "What does it matter what I need? You should be open." He explained that the location didn't have anyone to staff it, which was causing the inconsistency in operating hours. I acknowledged his point but mentioned that it shouldn't justify closing early. He told me he drives from a neighboring town, 30 minutes away, which is normal for some workers. I let him talk as we went through the process of paying for my insurance. I told him I understood the situation and that it wouldn't bother me as much if there were alternative ways to pay for my insurance. He suggested that I could have called it in, but I explained that during work hours, I can't always step away to make personal calls. I also expressed my belief that if they had a proper app where customers could track their plans, make changes, and pay online, it would be very helpful. The early closing at this location due to the employee living far away is not convenient for the locals, especially since many have similar work hours and often get off at 5 PM. It's frustrating to drive to the location and find it closed at 4:30 or 4:45 because it was slow, and the employee wanted to run reports and go home.
