I needed a heavy couch moved, a heavy wooden file cabinet and 20 or so other items. Based on his previous fair prices I expected to be told $300. This time I told him 2 weeks in advance that I would need him to make my stuff about 2 weeks in advance so that he could get me on his schedule. He agreed to move my stuff mid month but when mid month came he did not have me on his schedule. He said he would get to me if he had time. He didnt. I asked him the day of if he was still coming and he replied "I talked to your landlord (who agreed to be at my house to let him in) a couple hours ago. So I called the landlord who did not get a straight answer either. So I told the hauling guy "Id appreciate it if he told me directly what was going on since I was the one who hired him. He had already kept us waiting several hours after not putting us on the schedule. We rescheduled a week later. I stressed the importance of getting moved as I had a lot to get done after everything was cleared out. The night before the move I asked for a quote to move a reasonable amount. He came back with a quote of $1200. Seriously? That is double what the competition quoted me and 4 times what I expected to be quoted based on previous experience with the hauling guy. Unfortunately won't be using this guy again and unfortunately can no longer recommend him to others. What I can recommend to others is that if moving is that lucrative a job where you can regularly charge $1200 for what equals 1 to 2 hours worth of work, then I recommend to everyone is to start their own hauling business.
