I was so excited that the law school reserved a spot for me and I didnt have to worry about housing, but I wouldn't take their housing if I were to do law school all over again. Staff and representatives are respectful and available. UCLA Housing's policies have been quite bad, annoying, nonsensical, and disturbing. I've spent almost all of my graduate years at UCLA Housing and that has been the biggest mistake of graduate school. The pricing model is awful, where people with inferior units pay the same if not more than other with better units, there are no phone lines to speak with a representative over the phone since March, the apartments are not clean when you move in, maintenance crew although helpful and knowledgable barges into apartments without notice, and there was a whole summer where I had pests (little bug/cockroaches, LOTS of them) coming into my apartment from the sidewalk (I lived on Veteran) and Housing refused to do anything about them and I played whac-a-mole with my new tiny roommates for a few months. Replacing the door even would help since I would literally see them coming in from the huge gap under the door. Especially now that rent prices are lower in the market than UCLA apartments, I recommend that people go rent elsewhere.

This is for a pretty small room with a small kitchen with 2005-era appliances (see prior review), a couch, coffee table, desk, a few drawers, and a full XL bed. With the rate that the UC system is implementing our post-strike wages, it's crazy to me that the school continues to raise the rent here. For what it's worth, I'm now in a place in WeHo that charges the 2020 Weyburn rent rate ($1625), utilities included, that also happens to be double the size of the Weyburn studio. I can't bring myself to lower my review because of the conveniences tied to Weyburn housing. I lived there when I had coursework during my PhD; you can reach campus within 20 mins by foot or by shuttle. The maintenance crew is responsive and kind, plus they are based right in Weyburn so they will come quickly if you have something that needs immediate repair. The equivalent of RAs always plan activities with plenty of free food - good to make friends outside your own department. I have 0 regrets about having lived here when I did. However, there are several outstanding issues that need to be addressed. I lived in Palm and there were a good amount of water, heat, Wi-Fi, and/or gas outages, sometimes taking up to 72 hours for them to be available again. You do get a courtesy email about 10 minutes before they shut down the utility in question, but it does get almost comically repetitive. Shower early and get work done on campus. Prior to the new mailroom being implemented, some packages were delivered to the apartment's courtyard, some to your apartment door, and others in an older mail room. There was constant theft of packages around this time. The current UAN/Weyburn mailroom was meant to be a solution. It's not! It can take up to 3 days for the staff to process your package and for the system to mark it as available. You then have to go to the mailroom with student ID and pick up your package. This is fine for some packages and annoying in case you order anything temperature- or time-sensitive. Other packages and pieces of mail disappear. I thankfully missed the bedbug experience from previous years. However, the Palm building had the pleasure of experiencing nonstop washing machine leaks, washing machine breakdowns (where only 2 out of 8 were functioning), and black mold stank in the laundry room in Palm. Our maintenance team could only do so much as the technology/program was managed through Housing. We had to file several maintenance requests directly to the company (WASH) and to UCLA Housing before anything got close to being resolved. Also I still think the full XL is the goofiest bed size imaginable. Imagine a queen bed with the rizz of a twin bed.

I completed the reservation on Airbnb. Even though rental prices were relatively high, choosing a company -Zuma Housing through Airbnb helped ease any worries about international rental scams. As a solo female traveler, my overall experience was positive and I felt comfortable. The apartment matched the description and fully furnished. My private bedroom was clean, well-supplied with fresh towels, linens, and basic necessities, and the furniture and kitchenware were in good condition. However, the shared spaces particularly the kitchen and bathroom could have been cleaner. The building is located close to Santa Monica Blvd. Without a car, navigating the heavy traffic on foot felt a bit uncomfortable at times, especially with the unhoused population around local bus stops and sidewalks. The management team was prompt in responding during office hours. They resolved my requests, though one required several follow-up messages. A small tip for incoming guests: make sure you always have your digital door codes on hand, as getting locked out by the auto-lock feature can be stressful! It comes fully furnished and they had recently upgraded the couches when I was there a few years ago. Unfortunately you have to use Time Warner and there were always issues with the service... I'd see a TWC truck out on the street at least once a week. There was also that one time there was an electrical explosion underground, which was crazy. We didn't have power for most of the night. The location isn't too far from campus and it's a quick walk down to In'N'Out and the rest of Westwood. Since it's a university apartment, there was a hotline you could call to get any sort of service, or you could go visit your AC (apartment coordinator), who was kind of like the RA for the building. They had plungers and light bulbs and a vacuum, which pretty much covers the basic things you'd need.

I've always felt that Oliver was friendly and forthcoming. Of course I have some small complaints about the building, but that's living anywhere. It's gonna have some drawbacks, just tour the place before moving in and figure out if its right for you. Overall, 515 Kelton Ave has been a great apartment complex. It's really hard to beat the convenience of this location living in LA. Westwood is a fun area and being a short walk from UCLA is amazing.

Oliver completely denied us of an initial inspection and he is required by LAW to do that if requested. He gets very aggressive when he knows he won't be able to scam you and will claim "he isn't trying to be a dick" but is completely trying to snake you. There were cockroaches and mice. Read through your rights. UCLA legal services will send you tenant rights if requested. Know your information. You've been warned .

However after four nights of lying on my bed, shrouded under the throw FIRST and then this uncomfortable holed blanket second, it still didn't loosen up. Unfortunately the AA throw was too short to cover my feet. I'm not really one of those Princess and the Pea types, but it's not easy to sleep when my feet must suffer that webby sensation. My last night there, I had a question/revelation: was I supposed to sleep under the SHEET, and then the crochet? My heart sunk almost as the Titanic did, yet less gracefully, of course. Pillow | The pillow was, thankfully, perfectly normal. Bathrooms | are communal. Five shower stalls, four to five restroom stalls, and a urinal. For the summer camp, girls and boys got separate restrooms. I don't know if bathrooms are "co-ed" during the school year. Lounge | Seats about 30-40 people decently. Projector for films and whiteboard for cuss words and doodles. Close to | Covel Commons, Sunset Recreation and Lounge, Bruin Café, a lot of construction!

Management is practically absent and non responsive to maintenance calls. Streets around it are filthy and filled with people experiencing homelessness. There are tons of package thefts and vehicular breakins. I did not feel safe here. Rents here are usually too high considering the downsides - tread carefully. This might work for you if you are a broke undergrad and get a good deal from a landlord on rent - but for any other reason, I strongly recommend you stay away! I moved out of my unit on 8/31/2020, and they still haven't refunded me my security deposit even though I've been moved out for almost two months now. The security deposit amount is quite a large sum of money, and the way they handled the situation has just been extremely irresponsible. Craig told me that they mailed out my security deposit on 9/30/2020 (which is already a week late according to the 21 day deadline signed on the lease), but I still have not received anything up till today (10/19/2020). I've been trying to contact him for the past week and he's been ignoring all my texts and calls. 2. There was a HUGE leak in my unit that required me to move out for the duration of the maintenance, and while I was negotiating terms with Craig Tice, he told me they could offer me a unit to stay in. The unit they offered did NOT match the condition, size, or rent of my current unit. I lived in a 2 story, 2 bathroom, 1 bedroom loft, and they offered me a dirty studio that was half the size. When I asked for a refund on the difference in rent, his literal words to me were "well, life is unfair" and refused to negotiate further. I ended up finding my own accommodation while I was kicked out of my unit. 3. My unit was infested with COCKROACHES and without giving me any prior notice, they fumigated my unit while I was not home. I returned home to a piece of paper hung on my door telling me I cannot enter the unit until 3 hours later. This was also during COVID so I was basically kicked out without any warning and not having anywhere to go. 4. During apartment showings, their staff member also randomly enters without knocking or giving me any time to open the door. During a showing scheduled for 9AM, they came in at 8:45AM with their shoes on without any warning, and started touring the house while I was still getting ready. Completely disrespectful as they walked all over my rug and floor areas with shoes on. IN SUMMARY, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND STRESS AND DO NOT RENT FROM RST!!!!
