As another review stated, Heindselman's has changed in ownership and the changes benefit the shop a lot. The store is spacious, which makes it easier to browse, and there is a good assortment of yarns of various weights and fibers. I found the price of the yarn to be pretty reasonable. The back of the store also has a nice selection of things needed for crafting with yarn such as needles, hooks, buttons, and sewing needles. Heindselman's is under new management and soon new ownership. I was there this past Friday and the help I needed was offered quickly. The store is super clean and organized. They now have room in the back for large classes. (I'm thinking the Utah County spinning group could begin meeting there.) There's seating at the front of the store and the gathering table is without all the old clutter. These are big improvements that make coming to Heindselman's an enjoyment. If you found it difficult to appreciate the store in the past because of the lack of organization and that big dog, you should try again. You'll be surprised. (Though I don't know if the dog is permanently gone, I didn't see any evidence of it). read more

A historical landmark with excellent service, selection, and people, and a great place for all fiber arts! I discovered this place because I decided on a whim to see if there were any local yarn shops, rather than just Joann. I'm so happy I did! They offer a variety of yarns at multiple price points, so you will be certain to find something you will enjoy. There is also a sweet pup named Luca, who made friends with my puppy, and she seems sad whenever I show up without him! They also have supplies for spinning and even needle felting, which my husband recently picked up, and there are multiple classes offered. The cherry on top? This is the oldest yarn shop in the country, and is still family owned. I definitely recommend this shop. read more

I do NOT know how this place has stayed in business for over 100 years! On a rainy Saturday I was the only customer in the store and three women were enjoying chatting around a table. My presence wasn't acknowledged, and no one spoke to me. I didn't know whether any of them were employees or if a clerk was somewhere in the back. The stock is a confusing mess of yarns and knickknacks. After I found (on my own) what I wanted, one of the women went to the cash register and said, "Will that be all?" She took my money and I left, never to return. read more

I love this place. They help if you need it but also give you space to explore if you are trying to think through things. The cool thing is that if you buy your yarn here they will help you as you work the project and if you have questions for free. That's not something you get anywhere else. And their expertise is superb but you wouldn't know it because they are down to earth and lovely people. read more

My wife needed her Irish knit coat repaired. It was shocking how well it was repaired and the more than reasonable price charged. Besides that, they really love needlecraft and it shows. The selection of materials excellent and their willingness to help supreme. read more

I decided to start knitting again after a large hiatus due to double carpal tunnel surgeries 10 years ago and a demanding job. They were kind to welcome me in but then were more interested in their conversation. Did get greeted by the dog with his nose in my crotch Didn't see any knitting going on and just a few young girls. One girl after about 15 minutes did approach me but honestly their yarn selection was low so she couldn't really help me. Not the large inventory they had 20 years ago. None of the more modern subdued colors. I did find a few but only one or two skeins of each. Most of their yarn selections were not enough in quantity to make a king size throw which is what I was after. But the thing that kept me from staying was the stench. It smelled so bad it made me sick to my stomach. It's the kind of stench due to years of neglect in cleaning. And the store if you walk to the back is quite unkept. They have a dog there so I'm thinking maybe a few accidents as well. I had to leave. I'll be looking for another option. read more

Had a few better looks at their collection of yarn, and unfortunately it's not very exciting. The majority seems to be a variation of Acrylic blends. I go to a "real" yarn store (as opposed to Michael's) for the merino or alpaca wool, but their selection is rather limited on that front. They do carry a few Baby Alpaca yarn however, which I have a hard time to find in some yarn stores. Weight-wise, I believe their largest selections are on Fingering/Sock, DK and Worsted Weight. Bulky or Super Bulky are sparse and Lace I only found a few hanks of. However, this is not a yarn store specifically. They have a lot of other supplies for weaving, sewing, etc. But I don't have much knowledge on that front, so I'll leave that to others who have. Staff are knowledgeable, so if you are wondering or unsure about anything, go ahead and ask them. Like most specialized crafting stores, the people are incredibly friendly. :) read more

Let me preface my review by saying that I am not a crafter. At all. But I decided that I wanted to try knitting and this place is close enough to my work that I can walk there, so I did. And it was amazing. When I walked in, there were a bunch of little old ladies knitting together in a circle (some kind of ritual, perhaps?) and I felt ridiculously out of place, so I started looking at pretty yarn. One of the workers (owners) came over and asked if I needed help, perhaps perceiving my utter befuddlement. I told her I knew absolutely nothing and she helped me pick out some yarn, some needles and gave me a free pattern for a washcloth. While her helpfulness would have put this store in the top 25% of craft stores, she went even further and told me that free knitting lessons were included when you buy supplies there. So we sat, for about 30 minutes on my lunch break, and she taught me the basics of knitting. I'm a craft-dunce, so I didn't get very far (basically figuring out how to hold the needles is a feat for me), but she then invited me to come back later for more tutelage if I needed it! Seriously... Walls and walls of yarn in various shapes, sizes, textures and whatever, along with really kind workers? I'm sold. read more

We dropped in here while on vacation. There was a larger selection of yarn than I expected. They had cottons, wools, blends, etc. and yarns of various gauges. There is a large selection of needles. The back of the store was dedicated to needlepoint. The staff was very friendly. read more
