We thought that this event sounded fantastic and even though the weather forecast was iffy, we chanced it. And what a great choice! The staff was perfectly kind and friendly, as well as knowledgeable. There were captains and plenty of staff on hand, so all was well handled. It was super fun and the food was delicious! They cook it right there in the little brick grill and provided a buffet of New England clam chowder in mugs, basket of fresh soft rolls, three lovely fresh salads, and grilled chicken main or vegetarian. We were kept well hydrated by self serve coolers of water or lemonade and a huge ice chest. Even the picky little one ate! The watermelon fruit salad was especially stellar. Check out my pics. Well, the weather cooperated (they WILL sail rain or shine) and we so enjoyed the day. It was comfortable, relaxing and fun. What a beautiful late morning and afternoon. They don't get enough buzz around they're business. If your looking for New England sailing/cruising, this is just the best! A class act all the way. I would definitely do it again.

It was a nice sail with 50 other passengers and about 8 crew members, who were all very friendly. We were expecting slightly more from something touted a "Sunday Brunch" cruise, which cost $80/person. The food was very average. There was only one hot entree and the rest were cold Quiches. The hot entree was egg and sausage, and since I don't eat sausage I didn't have any choices for something hot. It was nice to have several options for salad and fruit. For a 3-hour cruise, I'd rather pay less money maybe around $40-50 bucks and forgo the Brunch. I've done other River cruises, but this one wasn't worth $80, in my opinion.

My daughter and I had an absolute blast piloting the boat, and once we got over the fear factor that we were going "too fast" and gained confidence in piloting the boat for the first time, it felt like second nature. We did the 3 hour Mystic River tour which ended with a "free sail" hour at the end. However, we opted not to go out into the Sound due to heavily windy conditions, so we stayed in the channel in the "playground" area doing donuts and figure-eights. Before we knew it the 3 hours was up. Rob was a great host and he taught us how to pilot the boats in no time. He was also very knowledgeable of the Mystic seaport area. We had a great time and will absolutely be making this a regular part of our yearly Mystic trips!

The reviews were all highly praising and it looked like a fun experience. I have to say: don't hesitate! Book them! Rob was a pro guide and made sure we understood how to operate our boat safely and how to get the most fun out of it. Yes, there are safety things that you need to be aware of, but he was very encouraging of us trying out what the boat can do. We loved getting to do donuts in our boat! The tour itself was very informative, and we really got a feel for the area. We're already looking forward to returning for another season with a full group of friends to rent out all the boats. This is a must-do activity when visiting Mystic. Be sure to arrive on time as requested so that you can be briefed on the safety. That is so important, and that is why they tell you in advance that you will be turned away if you are late to the safety briefing. For those of you who may be wondering, there is ample parking, and it was about a 15-20 minute drive with traffic from downtown Mystic. Again, a huge thank you to Rob for being an awesome guide and helping us have the best experience possible for my husband's birthday surprise. Hope to see you again soon!

We were looking for an activity that would be fun for a multigenerational group of 23 people with toddlers, seniors, and everyone in between. We had been in communication with Oliver for months in advance. About two weeks before the big day, we saw that the forecast called for showers throughout Memorial Day weekend, particularly the Sunday of our planned cruise. We monitored the weather and decided to make a decision closer to the day. Throughout the entire process of planning, Oliver was responsive, reliable, accommodating, and kind. On the morning of the trip, Oliver gave us multiple options and worked with us to make sure that we could cancel and get a full refund due to the inclement weather. He provided us with agency up to the last hour of decision making. On a day that could have been really stressful, Oliver alleviated some of that stress. That is exceptional customer service, and that is the reason we will be coming back to the Argia for another special occasion. Highly recommend working with Oliver and his team if you get the chance!

We fished two full days and to say the fishing was good would be an understatement. We had two completely different days weather wise. Thursday was cloudy and cool and Friday was clear and warm. Thursday was better from a numbers standpoint, We caught about 15 striper with 8-10 of those being 30 lbs plus - big fish was 42 lbs. We also caught 10 -12 nice blue fish. Friday was the tougher of the two days because of the sun and number of boats in the area but we still had six nice striper and another 10-12 really nice blue fish. Our five biggest striper weighed 179 pounds (31-34-34-38 and another 42 pounder)! The "dink" was still a 10 pounder. On Friday we were within a hundred yards of several boats and they got to watch us catch fish while we watched them catch notta! I can honestly say that when we had baits in the water Jay had us on fish. There were many times when Justin couldn't get the second line out before there was a fish on the first line and we doubled up several times each day. About the boat - it is very clean, plenty comfortable and ran like a top. You could relax inside out of the rain Thursday and it was nice to be able to get out of the sun on Friday while going to and from the fishing grounds. Having a restroom on board during a 10 hour trip was a must. Jay really knows his stuff and Justin was by far the hardest working First Mate I have fished with. We are hooked (pun intended) and will definitely be back to fish with them next year. Book with confidence and opt for the 10 hour trip to give yourself as much time in the chair as possible!

By far one of the better private charters I have taken. Capt. Peter gave more than great directions on finding his dock and boat and a very thorough overview of all the safety equipment before we set out. Seas were calm and the weather cool for a July Sunday. Capt Peter made sure everyone was safe when on the boat and it was moving, was very knowledgeable about the long-Island sound and various landmarks during our charter. We followed the birds but the usual spot was quite crowded with a lot of other boats so Peter took us to a much less crowded spot and we got into hitting strippers and blues pretty good. What was the best thing for me was how patient and attentive Capt. Peter was to my two boys. I have been on many other charters before where the Capt. And crew are not nearly as good or concerned about the kids. But Capt. Peter answered every question they had (which were sometimes asked multiple times), he was great helping them fish so my father-in-law an I could man our own rods, and was great at teaching my boys how to cast, jig and reel. With a little instruction from Capt. Peter, my 9 year old was even able to land his first striper completely unassisted! I can't tell you how happy and proud this made my son. While we did not round out the day with any keepers, we definitely caught a nice showing of fish. When we got back to the dock and were heading to the car, my boys were like "Dad, how soon can we come back and fish with him again?". I would definitely recommend Capt. Peter and FlylightCharters to anyone, especially if you have kids. A much better experience than the crowded party boats, much more fun, and a very, very reasonable price!

Here's the scoop on this cool way to experience and explore Long Island Sound... The Cross Sound Ferry (which provides ferry services from New London to Orient Point, NY) also operates a separate "Lighthouse Cruise" tour out of the New London ferry terminal. Tickets can be purchased in advance online. The tours generally run June through mid-October. The cruises 2-hours long, and generally depart at 2PM. There are two cruises that depart from New London, the Classic Lighthouse Tour, which navigates towards Orient Point, NY, and the Lights & Sights Tour, which navigates east to Rhode Island. There is also the Long Island Lights Tour, but this departs from Orient Point, NY. No matter which tour you choose, you'll get to enjoy a relaxing cruise on Long Island Sound, learning the history of about 8-9 different lighthouses, as well as some other notable landmarks. I recently took the Lights & Sights Tour on the last day of the season, which was Columbus Day. It was a little chilly so the boat wasn't that crowded. The tour guide was really good and informative, I learned a lot! The ship, the Cecilia Ann, was clean and comfortable, and they even have a small snack bar where you can get light snacks and drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic). Parking is available in the ferry terminal lot for $5. When you go inside the building to get your tickets, you pay the $5 and they give you a parking pass to put on your dashboard. There is also a municipal parking garage located directly across the street from the terminal. Overall I would highly recommend the Cross Sound Lighthouse Cruises! Not only will you get to enjoy a relaxing boat ride, but you'll also learn a bit about some maritime history!
