I found hell phone through Peerspace while searching for a venue to host my wife's roaring 20's birthday party. I was able to connect with Vanessa and booked the venue right away. The space is big with a small stage, bar, and outdoor seating. I hosted the party with 36 attendees and had an amazing time. Street parking was available and easy to find. Vanessa and staff did an amazing job. We had catering set up in the back right, live music onstage, and photographer roaming throughout. This place is a disaster. I went at night, and it was completely dead--just a bored DJ blasting terrible, ear-splitting EDM remixes to an empty room. The drinks were overpriced and watered-down, and the bartender barely looked up from their phone. The vibe was nonexistent. Don't waste your night here. read more

A hidden gem in East Williamsburg/Bushwick! Lisa is quite the charming bartender! I walked in not knowing what to expect (I was confused to be honest), but she immediately made me feel at home and made a drink specifically catered to me! Her S'mores Flambé martini is both intoxicating and delicious! It's so smooth, I can't taste the alcohol! Lisa is working the bar by herself and it's really inspiring to watch her make drinks and interact with customers. She has a lot to share and really adds to this bar's drinking experience. The first time I stepped foot in ange noir cafe I knew that it would be my go to place for editing photos and enjoying good coffee. Over the past two years the owners of ange noir have been renovating the back. It finally opened a week ago and all I have to say is I'm amazed. Subpar bar service. Drinks were watered down. The bartender wouldn't even give me a full glass of alcohol. If I'm paying for an expensive cocktail, don't hand me a glass that's slightly more than halfway full. Wouldn't recommend this bar or the rude and pretentious bar tenders. read more

Professional musicians and bands: beware if you book a show at this venue! I recently had a terrible experience trying to play at this venue. We made a very standard e-mail agreement about compensation (just a few free drinks and a discount), instrumentation/back-line, start time, etc. When our band arrived at the location, the owner denied us any of the things we had agreed to with their promoter, even though we had them clearly outlined in writing. Namely, they were refusing to let us play with drums or saxophone because of sound complaints (even though it was made very clear when we booked that we have drums and sax in our band). They also refused to give us the free drinks and discount promised. After much arguing and convincing we managed to convince them to uphold SOME of their original promises but not all. And they were not apologetic at all after all of this! Don't book here! They don't know how to work with professionals, and have a terrible attitude with regards to musicians. read more

I decided to come here for a spoken word event that one of my good friends was performing at. I walked in around 8pm and went to the back of the establishment in which the performances were taking place. The lighting and atmosphere were perfect, in my opinion. Performances were great, of course. However, the food I did not enjoy so much. I ordered the Carbonara Linguine, which was reasonable in price so that was not an issue. The actual pasta sauce was too watery, it was not thick enough. So all I could taste was the pasta noodles and not the flavor of the pasta sauce. The bacon was undercooked in my opinion as well. Even though the food didn't do it for me, the performances were wonderful! Hell Phone should keep hosting the performances, but should improve the food, particularly the dish I ordered. I recently hosted a private party at Hell Phone and was very impressed with the swift, attentive service and delightful ambiance they provided. Our guests all had a wonderful time, and many were so impressed that they commented on the quality of the venue. Because the owners and staff were so on top of things, I was able to enjoy the party without having to worry about logistics. I would like to specifically review the spoken word experience created by this establishment: meh. In fact - apart from the amazing and courageous performers - the most exciting part was walking through the phone booth; however, even the excitement of this moment was cut short by the grumpy fella standing on the other end, demanding tickets and then shushing and rushing us in. The website said that the show started at 8pm, so we were surprised to find that at 7:45pm many performers had already went through. Because of this and the small amount of space, we felt and were treated as though we were intrusive. At writ large, many of the crowd members expressed behavior that was unwelcoming and rude to the performers, such as rolling their eyes, or speaking and moving around loudly. This is NOT the type of atmosphere that an establishment that hosts spoken word night's should have. There was no real feeling of all being welcome. Lastly, we were excited to learn that they served food, but after being told that a third of the menu was unavailable AND it would take over an hour for burrata to be served, we were completely unimpressed. There are SO many other warm and safe places for performers with heart-felt words to express themselves. Sorry to say, this is not one of them! read more

nice place. i would give 4 stars but no reason not to give 5, went for birthday and they have an easy to navigate menu. ordered a strawberry nutella crepe, it wasn't bad. then went to drinks. got a mojito the drinks there are strong so it was pretty much one and done. my boyfriend got a manhattan and when i tried it, it made my strong mojito seem smooth. cool atmosphere. hidden and fun. would recommend read more

This place is great, I've been here a few times and always enjoy it. The waitress who I've had every time is wonderful. I enjoy going early when it is not crowded so I can play around on the stage and talk with the staff. Great decor.
