I often wonder what inspires the names of some restaurants. "Thai On Earth"…read more.. Maybe it's best just to ignore the brain. Head straight to the menu. Whenever I have Thai, I order one of two dishes: the Larb Gai, or the Panang Curry (both $12.90). I'm happy to report back that both dishes are done well here. The space is simple and no nonsense. It's clean and functional. The service is fast and friendly. If you're dining in, you'd do well to share dishes (it's more fun this way anyhow!). Thai On Earth is always pumping out take away orders of a night time. Everyone in Auchenflower is sure to have their menu on their fridge door. I'd bet it's the best Thai in the area.

I always judge a Thai restaurant on the Pad Thai so that's what I got. That and the fish cakes. I'm pleased to say that boy they cook some tasty fish cakes and Pad Thai to boot. It was well sauced, the noodles were well done and they put some filling in the noodles. My friend A ordered the Massuman curry and that too, she said 'mmmmm this is really nice! And look, you can see the potatoes!' Which means she really did quite like the taste of her quaint little curry that she always orders at every single Thai place we've ever gone to. Try something else I always say... but no. Anyway, I'm getting a little off topic here, but to be honest, this place is alright. Worth a try and not enough people go there.

Two Sisters Pizza had been on my list of restaurants to try (yes, I have a list of restaurants I…read morewant to try?!? I can here your sniggering from here) since I moved back to Brisbane. It was their website design that lured me in initially. We finally got around to giving it a whirl and frankly, I can't believe I waited so long to investigate their pizza menu. Before you pick up the phone to order or walk into the restaurant in Auchenflower forget all notions you have of take-away pizza. Try to remember the last time you ordered pizza that didn't have that dark, oily grease stain on the bottom of the pizza box? Our pizza boxes were remarkably void of this and I'm not surprised. The two pizzas we ordered (Pesto Lamb and Tasty Bill) were the least greasy pizzas I've ever had. I'm not kidding! The fresh ingredients and simple flavours don't come close to the delight I felt discovering not only do they offer gluten free bases but they actually taste akin to standard pizza bases. I've heard mixed reviewers of Two Sisters Pizza from friends but me personally? I'm a fan. While you'll pay a little more than a regular pizza chain I still consider them to be resonably priced. Better still I can keep my stomach from writing me hate mail by choosing a gluten-free option and above all else the pizzas taste great. Plus the friendly staff don't go astray.

If you live in or near Auchenflower, this is the place to get your pizza, I'll tell you that for nought. Two Sisters have a killer Supreme pizza to offer. The toppings are generous and add some oomph to an already satisfying classic pizza choice. You'll get leg ham, bacon, pepperoni, cabanossi, prawns, mushroom, green capsicum, red onion, kalamata olives, oregano all on one pizza! I would have to say the seafood menu is the pick of the lot. Your standard meat eaters menu is strong, and vegetarians won't suffer either, but the seafood menu is where it's at. I like to rip into the Chilli Prawn which is nothing more than prawns, basil, chilli, and parmesan, and ever so yum. I don't know I feel about dessert pizza, but you can try it on for size here. The pizzas come in small ($15), medium ($18), and large ($21). If you're feeling like pizza, go support this family run business. They're good at what they do, and they're miles better than more main stream pizza chains.

Cafe Auchenflower - Quaint, comfy. Somewhere to regroup if you're feeling a little discombobulated in the busy spaces of west end and New Farm.

Granted, it's mostly been for a sneaky take-away coffee but recently we stopped for 'elvensies' and the hummingbird cake was all you could want for a morning tea. This is a family-friendly cafe so if you have kids they're more than catered for - 100s and 1000s on the kids cups and a drawing area for their imaginations to run amok. Should kids not be your thing, be prepared for the little rugrats to be, well, be kids - making noise, running around and burning energy. If you can deal with that then you're in for a treat in a cafe that was once a dark and dreary looking antique store.

We arrived to find that it wasn't. A decision was made to walk to Rosalie, but we didn't even make it more than a block before seeing the welcoming sign 'open 7 days'. It's al small cafe, but with only a few tables it feels bright roomy. It is also air conditioned, which is a bonus as we head into the nasty summer months. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Menus were already on the tables and they were trialling table service, which was executed promptly. Coffee was made well and the breakfast was filling, reasonably prices and well presented. I had the vegetarian breakfast of haloumi, tomato and spinach with toast. My partner had the mushrooms and we both had no complaints. A few flies buzzing around was the only frustration, but something that it difficult to avoid at this time of year. I look forward to going back and trying other options.

Today, the Boatshed is something else. A steak restaurant that is casual and classy with reasonable prices. The steak menu is impressive. it gives you all the details of the meat, where it was raised and on what, how long it's been aged for, whether it was wet or dry aged. Basically, everything apart from the beast's first name. The chef clearly has a passion for serving good steak, when I requested a dry aged steak to be served rare, the wait staff informed me that it is a steak that is best served medium, to allow the fat to cook properly and to produce a better flavour. While the steaks are divine, there are a few things that need more work. Service is at best haphazard, at worst frighteningly slow. 90 minutes from when we first ordered to when the meals arrived. From reports of dining companions, non-steak meals are a tad woeful. At my most recent visit, one meal was so bad, it was inedible and waived from our bill. The side salads that come with the meal are insipid, (a caesar salad with one croute) and some of the sauces are a little bland. The wine list is passable, but more effort needs to be made to keep it up-to-date (or the listed wines in stock). Nothing more annoying than finding a favourite on a list and being informed I can't have it. In summary if you're craving a really good steak and don't want to pay CBD prices, this is the place to go. But be prepared to wait.
