Stephen E Teaney - The unneeded extra hole he made in my kitchen

    Stephen E Teaney

    (1 review)

Stephen told me he could offer a much better deal than my original quote of 3,500 to dig a tunnel…read moreunder my house and replace the drain pipe from the kitchen to my laundry room. He said he could do it for about 1,700. However, after assessing the job he said he could do it for 4,000 if it reached the laundry room and throw in the repair of my floor since he remodels houses. Since a friend referred him, I thought I could trust him. He asked for 500 upfront for material cost. He spent the day at my house making a bigger mess by adding an additional hole in my kitchen and then when I got home he said the only solution was to run pipes through my pantry, behind my fridge and stove, through my cabinets and wall. Plus he said the price would be 4,500 to go a cheaper route. Then he said he would bury the old pipe and cap it off at the laundry room. Then his partner said, "you aren't planning on selling your house anytime soon are you?" So it seemed shady. I told him I'd think about it but also asked if I had someone else dig the hole could he still replace the pipe underground and he said yea for 3,000 then later changed his mind and said he had never planned on digging a hole that far. So I told them I would use the original plumber and asked how much of the 500 I owed him and he said he paid himself 250 plus his partner 250 and was out 50 bucks in supplies. He didn't do any of the original job and made a bigger mess for me. I then asked if I could have half back and I felt like that was fair. He told me he shouldn't even be telling me how much him and his partner make and that he has to feed his family and can't work for free. I agreed, but he did not do the job he was paid to do and only spent 50 in material. He never quoted me a labor for the day price, only said it was to go toward the 4,000 job which he did not complete. I asked for an itemized receipt for the 50 in supplies and for an invoice to be emailed to me. He refused to give me his email or business name. Then he had his wife call and text me telling me I had no business with them and to "have a blessed day!!!" About a couple weeks later Stephen sends me a picture of what he purchased, gloves and a mask, then several hours later a text invoice saying I owe him 797.72! For what? A hole in my floor and tons of cigarette butts laying out in my street from his frequent trips to his truck all day? He says he has a business, but I can't find anything online.
