Attention to where the food was sourced and great service. But we were the only ones eating. Everyone else was at the front in the original part of the building getting drunk. It was only on closer inspection that we realised this place was also a hotel. From the website it seems like a chic boutique. But I can't honestly give much information on it. I will be going back and will have a proper dinner there. I will update my review with full dinner details. All I know is the food was lovely. Give it a try.

What a cracking surprise this turned out to be!…read more Smack bang in the middle of this pretty little village this English country pub packs a couple of great surprises. First of all the layout inside is unusual and wonderful. Large tables and lounge chairs make this comfortable for coffee meetings and / or afternoon drinks for business whilst maintaining a great pub bar, not an easy trick to pull off. The food is also outstanding, definitely better than you'd expect and certainly restaurant standard +. Thats not all the wine list is good too, they offer much more than the standard cheap Australian screw tops usually found in English pubs. But this pub is also a hotel and I stayed in room 5 which was warm, clean and had a great rain shower. The bed was comfortable too and my only gripe would be that the wardrobe was tiny and my view out of the window was grim. But this is a lovely English pub and it deserves a look from anyone able to visit.

If I start with a 5 star review, and take a point out for every fault, I'd be in the negatives…read more 1. Food was quite questionable in terms of quality, -1 2. At 27C day, all the heaters in the place are on, bizzar, -1 3. Staffs weren't exactly friendly towards ppl with kids. On one occasion, I just got my baby to sleep and a bunch of staff in black shirt walked by chatting super loudly (although they saw me with my sleeping baby), and woke him up, -1 4. We called to ask for the room to "not" be serviced, yet someone still came in despite being assured it won't be touched (we didn't get our chance to put away all the baby stuff that needed kept clean), -1 5. At one of the bars at the back of a lower ground conference room, I saw a cup of coke with at least 2cm of coke evaporated with mould covering the top, seriously how bad was that! -1 (to be honest that deserved to be -10 even) 6. We have a baby, with lot of luggage. Rather than helping us, staffs just pointed us to a different set of stars. So I had to move pram up stairs myself. Luckily a friend came and helped. -1 7. We were given a room next to a wedding. It blasted music through our room, our baby kept getting woken up! -1, (tho in my mind that's -1000) 8. The music apparently won't stop till 12am...!?! -1 (tho again that should be -1000) 9. Hair dryer in room broken. -1 10. Shower temperature knob broken, stuck at one temperature (yet weirdly temperature still changes at random every time I shower). -1 11. Bed sheet had stain. -1 12. Kids meal wasn't ready at the promised time. Caused some panic. -1 13. Kettle completely lined with lime scale. -1 14. Carpets are dirty. (I know cause my phone landed on some suspicious patch) -1 15. Toilet seat is the old school plastic cheap seats. -1 Tho to be fair: - great car park with lot of spots. +1 - lovely lawn and very well maintained grass area. +1 - a few of the staffs were friendly +0.5 (at this day and age, focus on customer centricity) - we called to ask for toilet paper and more soap, it came within the minute. +1 (by now expectations are low) - my room came with a decently power fan, which was super good on an extreme hot day. +1 Conclusion, the pros cannot Out weight the cons, not even close. While some might say I'm bias because my baby was affected, true and so I should be angry - but, in my humble opinion, with a hint of objectivity, there are still better places for your money.

Many years ago I visited the Brewers on a regular basis and decided to make a return visit to see…read moreif it had changed. The pub was almost the same with some minor decoration changes. Immediately a change in management was obvious. Walking into the restaurant we were interrogated as to whether we had a reservation. On saying no we were ushered into the bar area. No problem but badly dealt with, I feel. Ordering a pint and a glass of wine I took a menu as we weren't sure about eating but decided on seeing what was on offer to order. A shared platter was certainly enough as, in the middle, was a beautifully baked camembert with croutes. So soft and smooth. A terrine of smoked ham and chicken with wonderful chutneys. Chicken strips, crudites and humous. Certainly enough for a lunch. I'm glad I went back and will do so again if in the area.

Pub was lovely. Has that country charm, with cozy seating and fireplaces. Lunch was great too…read more Prawn dish was yum and the cod was quite a decent sophisticated dish. Nice view of the green too. We chose to stay here for a cheap £60 per night overnight local option, that wasn't another soulless chain for £120+... and glad we did. We were a short 5min drive from Warner Bro's studio tour for Harry Potter. Kings Langley nearby had an amazing coffee shop, great fish and chips, good pubs and random little shops. We weren't planning to spend my time in the hotel room, by design (!!) and that's probably why it worked well for us. The room wasn't great. Badly needs a renovation to be honest. Bed wasn't very comfortable (pillows were awful) and the bathroom was extremely rough around the edges. But it was clean and convenient!! Heater worked well, shower was hot, kettle worked, plenty of plugs to charge devices... good pub on property... free parking.. good access. Job done.
