It may have just been the time of day and time of year but perhaps the salon out did itself in size as there wasn't too many people inside. It's nice to see something so modern and bright in such an area, Funct (don't even get me started on the name) offers a range of stylist services for hair and nails as well as a training academy brought together by Schwarzkopf Professional sales and marketing teams. The stylist talks me through want I want to have done and then one of the juniors washes my hair and gives me a scalp massage in the process, which is always my favourite part of getting my hair cut. The stylist cut my hair quickly while chatting politely about holidays and the weather, the standard topics covered in a hair salon. I was very pleased with the cut and blow dry and it was reasonably priced. Overall it was a very pleasant experience, the salon is clean and the décor simple and bright. I was surprised that it was solely filled with male hairdressers (although looking at their website it appears that there are women that work here), but Russel did wonders with my hair (he's single, ladies) and gave me a very funky hair cut that looked awesome on the slopes! As this hairdressers is more reasonably priced than others I realised it would probably not be the best haircut yet I figured my request to be so simple that no hairdresser could get it extremely wrong. On getting home and reviewing my haircut I discovered that several pieces were much longer than others and overall it was very uneven. A few pieces were literally an inch longer than others giving me a completely ridiculous look, would never go back here despite very nice interior and friendly staff.

She made a bit of a hash of my fringe and I had to go back the next day, she argued that I had only asked her to cut half of my fringe (me thinks not) and then said it was too short, which it so isn't. So like any good little Yelper I searched for hairdressers in my locality of Leeds (I'm not crazy enough to try closer Bradford). Jam Hair's 4 star and above reviews and £21 for a haircut sold it to me, but now I see that they were written in 09 and I'm thinking that I should have been paying a bit more attention. Bad little Yelper. When I called for an appointment the only hairdressers available were £27 and £29 respectively... well still O.K I thought, so I went ahead and booked. Unfortunately when I arrived I was greeted with about as much enthusiasm as if I had just walked in and tried to sell double glazing. With an interior ecchoing a cross between Crystal Maze's 'Future' zone and a scene from Dallas, I was beginning to wonder what I'd let myself in for. The customer service did pick up as my hairdresser, Simon, was lovely and chatty and not too overbearing, but his technique was unfortunately not as good as his chit chat. I have quite a mane of hair and asked for layering and a swept side fringe, all of which he gave me, yet there was still that certain something missing. It just looks rather, well... f... l... a... t... Which is a shame and perhaps acceptable at £21, but you really hope for more for £29 cut. In more professional salons, they've also attempted more elaborate blowdrying for a similar price, but here it was similar to what I can manage by washing it with Fairy Liquid on a camping trip and letting dry in the Northerly winds. If I'd have asked for a Kate Bush maybe I'd have liked it. But I didn't. They seemed to stock most Kérastase products, but unfortunatley none were recommended to me so I left empty handed. Perhaps Jam Hair would be fine if you do manage to book a £21 hairdresser and just need a trim, but on the whole, this salon didn't leave the greatest of impressions.

The salon uses the latest equipment from Kerestace products, to GHD curlers and straighteners. A dodgy hair cut from here is just not possible. You pay for quality at the salon with a cut costing £16-£30 depending on the style. I personally feel hair is a very important part of an image and therefore is worth spending a bit of cash on!! I try not to be superficial, but what I just adore about Jam Hair is the decor, furnishings and lighting. Some say it's pretentious but I love it. It is hard to distinguish weather it is a nightclub or hairdressers as you drive past some days. The atmosphere is moody with dark lighting broken up by barred neon lights creating an almost Matrix like feel. As well as being a fashionable setting is it sophisticated and gives us ladies a real feeling of being pampered!

My husband couldn't even tell I had it done! Also, my hair felt dry and damaged after the treatment. The assistant who washed it was very rough and pulled quite a bit out with a sharp metal comb The atmosphere in the salon was awful, really. From decor to loud stylists to bad customer service- nothing impressed me about the place. Prices are definitely not determined by quality, rather by the salon's premium location. Avoid if possible.

Staff were pleasant, shop was tidy and fairly busy which I took as a good sign. When it came to getting my hair cut however the hairdresser seemed vacant and distant, more interested in other things and conversing with customers who were waiting while she chopped away. Although a little bemused by this I thought nothing of it, this is her job after all, she knows knows what she's doing. As it turns out I couldn't be more wrong! Towards the end of proceedings a small electric clipper was produced seemingly to tidy up a few things. While this was being used my left sideburns was shaved to above the ear at an upward pointing angle. The hairdresser then said something to the effect of "is that ok for you" while reaching for the mirror to show me the rear of my head and indicating the job was done, I had to ask her to do the other side of my head to match (a good inch and a half to two inches in difference!). This is not what I wanted but if one side is going to look ridiculous then they need to match! The full extent of the damage wasn't realised until the full light of next day when I realised she'd also shaved off part of my widows peak on one side of my head... All in all, a terrible experience, I look ridiculous, most definitely couldn't recommend to anybody else and wouldn't return.

I go every six or seven weeks to Bridge Street Barber Shop, just for what I call a tidy round trim,…read morenothing fancy. I am well pleased with the standard of cut that I get. The young ladies who do the cutting will give a customer a special haircut if required, and children get a lollipop after their trim. There is no appointments system. Customers wait their turn, as in my younger days (I am 72 years old), which suits me fine. A pensioner's trim costs £5.50 (and eyebrow trims are free!). Car parking: park on street or in Britannia car park (free), just across the bridge. I like this barber shop.

Fancy a trim but aren't butch enough to handle a barbers then come in here to get fully tarted up and ripped off like ladies do for their barnets. I am not saying this is a bad salon however, if you think for a moment is it not a little ridiculous the amount people are more than happy to part with for the purpose of trimming dead matter off ones head?
