My neighbor hired this company to trim all of his trees. I had to leave to go and volunteer. When I came home I found that one of their employees had done a hack. On March 18, at the intersection of Alamo Ave and Ridge, Jarrod Hendel of Hendel's Tree Service & Landscaping tried to go straight from the left hand turn lane and struck my son's car. He conned my son into not calling the police because he was "late for a work meeting" and would take care of him. He has refused to return the insurance phone calls as well as my sons phone calls. The insurance can't proceed with the claim until they hear back from Jarrod. My son shouldn't have to take a hit on his insurance because of an accident Jarrod Hendel caused. read more

The price was fair and the work was fine but incomplete. They were impossible to get in touch with to schedule and I was brushed off multiple times. They were supposed to come on a Th but called on Tu and said they could be by in 30 mins. Only problem is they didn't show up with the spray. I was told they'd be back the same week to spray but no one showed. Reached out to at 8am on the Friday to two different contacts and got no response. Hendel's did a solid job removing a large, dead fir tree that was located right next to our house. We were very pleased that the tree never even touched the house as it was being removed. Two small bushes were casualties of the felling, but Hendel's replaced them a couple weeks later. Jarrod, the owner, readily admits he will match competitor's prices, so, for large jobs, you should get at least another estimate to save a little. I found their prices to be pretty reasonable for the quality of work (you can always hire someone cheaper, but you get what you pay for!). They would get five stars except their office and work teams don't seem to communicate very well. We had to place a few calls to get thing scheduled and to get the bushes replaced. Jarrod Hendel came out to my property after weeks of trying to get someone to come over after the initial promise of "a few days". He was very unprofessional and tried to get me to sign a document that had the cost of his estimate on it. I asked more questions about it like why do I need to sign this? He became very pushy and when I realized that it was in fact a CONTRACT, not an estimate, he became even angrier. I refused to sign it as he was most likely going to have me sign it and then never contact me again, forcing me to pay the cancellation fee. NEVER trust this company or Jarrod. He also flexed that he has a bunch of friends on Facebook who are girls but are half his age???? That was a very strange thing to say to me. AVOID PLEASE! read more

Hiring Tree Work Now was a delightful experience. Kind, professional, punctual, and reasonably priced. They sent out someone to give a consult that was extremely knowledgeable, honest, and friendly. The next morning they has sent a crew out and the job was done lickety split and beautifully. The canopy of our huge live oaks was raised, some troublesome branches close to our roof were removed, and my driveway was cleaner than it was before they came! I received a quote back in February 2020 to have a few trees removed and stumps ground down. Pandemic hit and I forgot about having the service done. Well Hendel's didn't forget and sent me a reminder letter with a copy of the quote and a coupon that gave an amount of based on the total cost of service. Well this reminded me and I called to have them scheduled. I work third shift. The tree cutting crew came out about 4 weeks later with no warning waking me from sleep. They cut everything down but apparently a different team had to do the stump grinding. At this time I write a check and pay in full for all services including the stump grinding. I also give the tree cutters the coupon which knocked like $370 something dollars off the bill. This ended the first appearance of Hendels. Fast forward another few weeks and the stump grinder came out. Again no warning and again woke me from my sleep. At this point I had called the office multiple times reminding them I work nights and needed a warning before people just show up. Well the stump in the front yard gets grinded but apparently the maintenance wasn't performed on the equipment so they where unable to retract the wheels of the machine to get it in the backyard. At this point I'm told they have a smaller machine and that he would return to do the backyard. Lets fast forward another few weeks.... A new gentlemen shows up without warning. He tries to go to the backyard again the machine hadn't had the maintenance done and the wheels wouldn't retract to fit through the gate. I'm told he will return later this week. A few days later this time I stayed up still no warning though. The second stump grinder gentlemen is back and finally is able to grind the stumps in my backyard. Now at this point if this was the end of the story I wouldn't be here right now writing this review. Sure the service was crap and I would never use them again but I wouldn't be writing a giant review about the horrible office service. No instead today I check my mail and notice a letter from Hendels. My original thought was maybe its another coupon trying to get me to do more work with them or maybe a thank you for your patience kinda thing. I'm dead wrong. Instead to my horror it's a bill for the services rendered. The same services that I had already paid for in full. In general I'm a pretty chill person. It takes a lot to get my fired up. Im so outraged at the audacity of this company. Four trips to perform services and never a warning of someone showing up. Then to tell me I owe you money after I've already paid the full amount using a coupon you sent me. Never again will I use your service. For ever if someone asks for a company I will recommend they avoid you like the plague. I will be posting this to every place I can think. I will update this after I hear back from the company. However, my yard was unnecessarily used as the staging space for the trunk and limbs, and as a result my yard a remarkable mud mess upon completion. Zero stars is what I would give. I initially came into contact with Jarrod Hendel while he was on my street looking at a job at the neighbors house on November 12th. I approached him to get a quote to grind stumps from 2 trees that had been taken down in my yard. Jarrod looked at the area and gave me a quote for $220 to regrind the stumps. Previous job was unfinished by another stump grinder. Jarrod stated, "If you would have called a company like ours to begin with we would have come back if you were not satisfied." (unlike the man who did the first grinding job) . Agreed on Hendel Tree Service to complete work. Three weeks went by with no word from Jarrod or the company. I noticed Hendel Tree Service at my neighbors and approached the worker , who was grinding a stump and asked about my stumps. He was unaware there was an order to complete job but stated he would take care of me. Hendel Tree Service showed up the week of December 13th to grind stumps (I was out of town). Upon arrival home and examination of the job I noted remnants of the stumps were still sticking out of the yard and called Hendels back asking for someone to come out to house. Weeks and months passed by and I was sent a bill and called to pay said bill , both times requesting someone come to house to look at the job as there were still roots stricking out of ground. Jarrod Hendel showed up to house in March unanounced. I happened to be home and met him in front yard where he proceeded to make statements that started with "people like you" - never being satisfied and being unreasonable. Jarrod was argumentative and had NO DESIRE to come back to finish job to customer satisfaction (no stumps showing in yard). He proceeded to spray paint a few areas he said he would take care of and left. 3 weeks later I arrived home to find tracks in yard from equipment (only way I could tell he had been there) and the few spots he had marked were gone. From start to finish this job took 5 months to get done and there is still visible roots. Would not recommend Hendel Tree Service based on performance and poor customer service by owner. read more

Hired Hendels to trim trees back from our home to provide injections for a tree in our back yard. A crew showed up without an appointment (and while we were on vacation) to do the work. In addition, they provided injections for the wrong tree. Since that work was done, I have called no less than 7 times to talk about the tree injections. No one has retuned my or even attempted to return my call. I am not a fan of companies who a) show up without notice and b) who cannot provie customer service. read more

Think twice about using them. We had them give us an 'estimate'. Jarrod wrote it on the spot, asked us to sign, but did not explain we were signing a contract. Like any good person does, we were in the process of gathering a few other estimates. Jarrod didn't even follow up for over a week. In the meantime, we went with another company. Jarrod now tells us that the fine print says we owe them 20% for cancelling (in this case $500). For cancelling what? They weren't even kind enough to call us in a reasonable amount of time to get us on the schedule. Now Jarrod wants to come out and reestimate the job because two of the trees in their original 'esimate' have already been removed. Probably to jack up the price. Run as fast as you can away from Hendel's "affordable" tree service like I wish we had done. I wish I had read the reviews. Quite possibly the worst set of reviews I've ever read. I know one thing for sure. They aren't getting $500 from us for nothing. If their service level is this poor, I'm sure they won't put forth the effort to hire an attorney to come get the $500 -- and they won't get it because we've already asked ours. Horrible. My fiance, Erica, was given a quote from Hendel's on September 12, 2014 regarding a tree that we needed to have taken down due to the fear that it could potentially fall and damage either our own house or the house next door. This was given three days after our request for a quote. We had already had two other companies give us quotes, which were both substantially lower, but where they could not get out to perform the service until the next week. As we were afraid of the tree falling, we definitively wanted this down sooner rather than later. We were first given a price that was lower and then presented with a second price that was because they were not going to be able to come out and perform the service until the next day (a Saturday), which they were terming an after hours type of fee or charge. Even though this was significantly higher, we agreed to this contract, which also included the stump being ground up, because they said they could do so the next day. However, two hours later at 3:30 they arrived and without even notifying us began cutting down the tree...even though one of our 10 year old children was out on the front porch only feet from where they were cutting down hundred plus pound sections and limbs. As we didn't even know they were doing this, we did not have the ability to immediately get them inside and away from danger. They were completed and done with the service by 4:30 on the same Friday they came to give us the quote. I was quite upset we were charged a higher fee for the "after hours" or weekend charge when they performed the services on the same day which was clearly neither after hours or on a Saturday and consider this to be a clear misrepresentation of charges and unscrupulous business practices. Regardless, we received the invoice a couple of days later with the full amount as if we had the service completed at this higher fee time. The problems have not stopped, however, as they told us they would not be able to come and grind the stump until 3-10 days after the tree was cut down, which we understood and agreed to. 11 days after the service was performed my fiance called and asked when this was to be performed. She was told that they were going to put us on the schedule and it should happen any day. She has since called 4 separate times since we are now 22 days since the day they came to cut down the tree and still is being told they should get to it any day. They also told us that since we have not paid within 15 days that finance charges were accruing on the account, which they would take care of --- but are you kidding me??? They haven't completed their work --- who in the world pays before the work is complete. This company obviously is willing to bait and switch with prices and not fulfill their contracted services in my opinion. read more

Jarrod Hendel gave a reasonable estimate and had three tree professionals to our home in less than a week to take out 2 large trees, and trim a very large oak tree. They have excellent equipment, brought a huge chipper and left us most of the wood chipped for ground cover at our request. The job was done in less than a day. They sent out a stump grinder a few days later and did an excellent job removing the stumps. We are very satisfied return customers to this tree service. read more

They do not give any warning of when they are coming, they did not cut the trees I was quoted for, I was told they would put me back on the schedule- 5 weeks went by with no one showing up. I called 6 times without a reply. The office staff finally said they would put me on the schedule on a certain day- first thing in the morning- I took off work to make sure they trimmed the right tree- they no showed. I spoke with the owner and he was rude and did not offer to do anything for my inconvenience. I would never recommend anyone using Hendel again. read more

Beware!! I allowed Hendel's crew to use my driveway to topple 2 trees in neighbors yard. They used a bobcat (with "tank treads") to speed up and down / off and on my driveway to haul logs to the street. After clean-up, I noticed the next day that the bobcat had cracked the corners of 2 slabs of my driveway as they drove on and off the driveway into my neighbors yard. Tread marks and pathway clearly show the damage was done by the unit. Numerous calls to office were not returned. Called Mr. Hendel on his cell phone. He denied his bobcat could have caused the damage- even before seeing the damage. He doubled-down after he stopped by to see. He said: 1. It is my fault that I allowed them to use a 30 yr my old driveway. I should have known better. 2. There is no way his bobcat could cause such damage -- it weighs less than a car (as does a bowling ball, but dropped in the right spot...............) 3. He did not make enough money on this job to be repairing a 30 yr old driveway 4. He will sue me for defamation if I go after him for damages -- his argument is that I would suggest his drivers had malicious intent and would ruin his good reputation. 5. He said he's been in these "mud-slinging" episodes before and he always prevails. People always complain to him about damaged driveways. He refused any responsibility. I had to foot the $3000 bill to tear out and replace the slabs. Rude and unprofessional. I suggest you take "before" pictures if you chose to use them. read more

I ordered firewood for delivery. When I called to place my order I told the person on the phone that they would have to get their truck through my gate to stack the wood. The delivery man arrived and seemed unaware of the gate. He then "measured" our gate and the front of his truck. The front of his truck was not the widest point and therefore the delivery man hit my gate taking a chunk of wood out of my gate and damaging the hinge. I left a message requesting a call back from the owner and never received a call. The delivery man damaged my property and never offered to do anything about it andI have found dead carpenter bees in my firewood. I would never recommend this company to anyone. read more

We had a stump ground in our backyard by Hendel's and were very disappointed in the service. The quote they gave us had a sticker on it that said they match competitor pricing, however, they would NOT match a legitimate competitors price because "I was already on the schedule." Hendel's is extremely high in price. Definitely call around and get multiple quotes. My husband also asked them when we received the quote if the equipment would hurt the lawn. After they completed the work and left, we saw that their machines had torn up the yard. I will NOT be recommending Hendel's to my friends, family or neighbors. read more

The estimate included several times, but part of it stated "4 to 8 trees" by the pond dock. The workers cut only two trees of the "4 to 8" trees and were about to leave. When I pointed it out to them, they grumbled and went back to cut more. I didn't realize until after they left that they had cut only one more tree. I paid in full when service was rended and got a signed bill saying so. Then they sent me a second bill because they forgot to charge me for taxes. I paid the taxes and wrote a letter telling them that I still wanted them to finish the job. He didn't even respond. Also, bad attitude on the part of the workers. The first words out of one worker was "This job sucks." So does their work. read more

Awful customer service. Scheduled an appointment a week in advance and was told I would be called a day or two ahead to let me know when they are coming. The day of the appointment I still had not heard from them. I called them at 8am that morning and was told they had two people out on estimates today and that they would in fact call me when they were close to my home. At 1pm I still had not heard from them. I called a SECOND time.. this time I was asked what other day would I be available?? No apologies, only that they are all on another project, and one of their arborists was in an accident over the weekend. I asked why was I not called especially when I called that morning, I've been waiting for the last 5 hours!! I was given no explanation other than the question "when am I next available". I told them forget it, not interested any longer. The woman said okay "thanks for calling" and hung up. Unbelievable! read more

My family was gone on vacation May 31-June 7. When we returned we noticed damage to our landscaping shrubs, lawn and a dent on our gutter. We went up on the roof and noticed sticks all over the roof in this area. The ground under the gutters was littered with sticks. 2 of our bushes, a privet and rose of sharon were damaged with broken branches inside. There were sticks and twigs from a different tree lodged at the bottom of the privet. Some of the twigs had leaves from an unknown tree still attached. There were 2 areas of the lawn damaged also. The dent on the gutter is directly above the privet and the rose of sharon. We noticed our neighbor had a mature tree removed while we were on vacation. He said Hendel's Tree Service took the tree down. We told him it must have hit our roof and landscaping because the tree was directly across the street from our house. The neighbor told us he was at work when the tree was taken down but he suggested we call them. We called them on Monday June 9 and they sent a man out by the name of Greg on Saturday June 14. I talked to him and showed him all of the damage and he said they didnt know how it happened and they didnt do it. Greg said he was present for most of the time when the tree was taken down but wasnt there when the crew was finishing up. I would have called the police and filed a report but I thought the tree service would own up to the accident when I met with Greg on June 14.
