We booked the wild horse tour without knowing what to expect, but it ended up being the highlight…read moreof our entire trip. We met our guide, Marcia, at the farmers market in Jackson, KY. Right away, it was clear she knew the area and the horses inside and out. The tour started with some quick local history and a look at old buildings around town--short, simple, and interesting. Then we headed up the mountain. Within minutes, we saw our first band of wild horses on the side of the road. Marcia recognized them and said they typically avoid people, which held true even after we tried a few carrots. Still, the kids were thrilled--they saw wild horses in real life, and that alone felt like a win. But it only got better. Not long after, we came across a single horse in a field. We got out of the car, and to our surprise, she ran right up to us. Our 9-year-old daughter and 7-year-old son got to pet a wild horse--that moment alone made the tour worth it. As the day went on, we saw more and more horses. Some were heavily pregnant, some had foals or colts, and many came surprisingly close. Every stop felt like a new story waiting to happen. By the end of the tour, we'd seen several bands of wild horses, and each one left an impression. This experience more than exceeded expectations and gave our family a day we'll be talking about for years. If you're anywhere near the area, book this tour. And if you're lucky enough to get Marcia as your guide, you're in for something special.
