It was great being talked through the process by Gerrard Coleman, and sources of the cocoa beans. Took part in the different processes from sorting and roasting the beans to conching. On this day we made a bar out of Jamaican beans, which is now in the stores for a limited time only. (with our names also on the packaging!) I would highly recommend if you get a chance to go to one of their chocolate workshop days - you will definitely have as much fun as I did, and meet other like-minded chocoholics!!! :-)

Their Christmas window display is always fantastic and the shop looks amazing at Easter and around Valentine's Day. This is, frankly, the only place to buy Easter eggs from. They are made from the best quality chocolate, the shells are thick, and are stuffed with a selection of eggs, chocolates and truffles. The service is very obliging and they offer a very prompt postal delivery service.

My other half arrived home last week with a brown bag, inside there was a small brown box tied up with a brown satin bow. I opened it up wondering what it was only to find a selection of these fabulous hand made chocolates!! Maya is a new shop that has just opened at the top of the Old High street in what used to be the postcard and stamp shop. There violet creams have to be most absolute fave with rich dark chocolate and tiny bits of sugared violet on top and the most amazing violet cream inside, hmmmm I could have eaten them all at once. I have not asked how much they were but it is a specialist shop so I think they are probably priced quite highly but they are worth it! I am told that the box of violet creams I was given was around £10 for 12 chocs so yeah they aren't cheap but like I said to my partner I would give up all other chocolate for a year if I knew I would get a box of 12 of these just once a year!! That is how good they are. It is a lovely shop, everyone should go and just try one yummu choc, you will fall in love.

When I walk in I have to resist the urge to start chewing at the walls just to see whether this shop is actually made of chocolate. So, it is a relatively small premise, but simply filled to the brim. Mainly this shop sells individual chocolates; cream filled, praline, nougat, dusted, dark and many more. They also sell a section of Thortons chocolates as well. Because I came in near Christmas there was plenty of Christmas gifts, such as chocolate Santa's and snowmen. I'm sure Easter is just as well represented. This is also a prefect place to pick up gifts. There are walls of chocolate gift boxes, ranging in size from a few chocs to around a hundred. Anyone want to buy me a present from here?

They stock every kind of sweet imaginable from hotel chocolat style chocolate bars, bricks and truffles to popping candy, penny sweets, lollipops, boiled sweets, nougat, raisins... if it belongs in a sweet shop, you will find it here. There are often queues of children lurking around, eyes wide with pleasure at the vast shelves full of treats that await them! Such treats come at a price. I'm not sure whether I remember penny sweets as correctly being a penny when I was a child (i think some of them had migrated to two pence by then!) but it is a tad expensive. As chocolate shops in Brighton go, Montezuma's is one of the best: however, it is at the low end of…read more'best', with places like Choccywoccydoodah and Audrey's offering much more classy items for about the some price. What Montezuma offers, uniquely, is some very out-there flavours: lots of lime and chili and that kind of thing. Not my cup of tea, but if you like your chocolate with a bit of added zing, this is the place to go. Where a lot of of chocolate shops in Brighton go for the over-the-top, chocolate heaven approach, Montezuma's looks far more professional than most of it's counterparts, with plenty of nicely wrapped packages of chocolate. It isn't actually very enticing to look at: certainly nothing on Choccywoccydoodah's incredible cake display over the road. It's all very nice, just a bit muted in comparison to some of the more out-there places around town. Still, if you like your chocolate flavoured and a bit more... South American, Montezuma's may be for you!

My friend and I got lost while we were visiting London from NYC, and happened upon this amazing…read morechocolate shop. I can't imagine anyone having anything other than praise for this place. I recognized immediately that it wasn't exactly cheap, but you also can tell right away that it will all be worth every penny. And it was. The woman behind the counter, who I assume was probably the owner, was extremely helpful and patient. She gave extra details on all of the chocolates that I asked about. I ended up getting one of each of the following ganaches: marc de champagne, passionfruit jelly in milk chocolate, a hand-painted heart with a bee, an earl grey, and I'm afraid I can't remember the last two. But every single one was divine, and it was all packaged in a perfect little box. Happy birthday to me! What a shame we don't have one of these in the states.
